Evo Japan 2024 is one of the major tournaments that’s been happening this past weekend. Being that this is one of the first major tournaments of this scale for Tekken 8, this gives us some interesting insight about how Tekken 8’s meta is shaping up.
Many of the expected top tiers, such as Feng and Dragunov, are commonly being used to break into the top 64 portion of the bracket. However, it turns out that there were only seven characters that didn’t make it into the top 64 this time, which is interesting considering that one of these characters in particular has also been one of the top contenders.
Along with Asuka, Paul, Kazuya, Leo, Panda, and Yoshimitsu, Devil Jin wasn’t particularly successful at this event. Though Devil Jin is often labeled as being difficult to play, he’s also supposedly a top tier or high tier candidate.
On the other hand, it’s not too surprising to see a lack of Asuka and Panda representation, but it is surprising to see that fighters like Leroy, Kuma, Zafina, and Steve are being used since they’re often seen as low tiers in Tekken 8.
The most popular combatant at Evo Japan 2024 ended up being Feng with seven players using him as their main while two others had him ready as a secondary character. Victor came in second place with six competitors using him.
