A female student was allegedly raped before being abducted as unknown gunmen raided Arthur Jarvis University, a private university located in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.
THE PARADISE NEWS gathered that the unusual incident occurred on Tuesday night, July 19 at about 11pm which left the campus in disarray.
A source, Pandora Undie who raised the alarm on Facebook while calling for help said one of the students escaped the abduction.
She also lamented the poor electricity supply and no-fencing in the institution – as being an aid for kidnappers and other criminal elements.
“She (victim) was just on her way from the canteen back to the hostel with her friend, three unknown men dragged her and her friend from the school compound into the bush – the other escaped and was ignored but sustained an injury – a very deep cut.
“She (victim) was stripped naked before they took her as her clothes were found at the spot where they took her”.
“The school has no fence and has a terrible road plus they turn off the generator by 10pm”, Undie said.
THE PARADISE NEWS further gathered that the kidnappers, in their numbers, were shooting sporadically before kidnapping the victim.
Amateurish video footage shared by Undie indicated that one security staff at the school was arrested and put inside a navy truck for suspected conniving with the kidnappers.
Confirming the incident, CP Aminu Alhassan, Commissioner of Police in Cross River State told AIT that a team of Anti Kidnapping and Cultism Squad (Dragon Squad) has been deployed to the University community to comb the neighbouring forest for the rescue of the abducted student.
