Street Fighter 6’s latest DLC character is very special. One of the most popular fighters from SNK’s Fatal Fury and King of Fighters series, Terry Bogard, joined the playable roster not only as part of an epic crossover between the two legendary fighting game developers, but also as the first ever outside guest character in a mainline Street Fighter game.
However, despite looking absolutely broken in his gameplay trailer, players came to the conclusion fairly fast that the guest DLC combatant might not have been as strong as everyone initially thought. But how good (or bad) is he really? Prominent FGC content creator Brian_F recently released a video that analyzes and discusses where Terry stands here a month after his release and what that means for him on the tier list.
The opinions on Terry early on essentially landed in two main camps. Either people felt he was not very good at all here in Street Fighter 6, or he was about average with potential to grow.
Terry Bogard’s tool kit in Street Fighter 6 is fairly technical for sure, with solid execution not only required to play him well, but also a lot of awareness and knowledge of what options to use, when, at different ranges, and how.
There’s a lot that goes into playing Terry, which is why some folks wanted to give him some time to bake a bit before deciding what his actual strength might look like. Brian gives us the “one month later” analysis here, and he starts by covering some of the different tools Terry has at his disposal.
Among his strengths, Brian takes particular note of Terry’s unique level 2 super. Not only does it have a lot of utility in combos thanks to the ability Terry has to extend it with two follows up using extra Drive Gauge and Super, but when the full version is utilized it can deal really high damage.
As far as weaknesses go, Brian explains that while Terry has several strong meaty set ups using things like Burn Knuckle and projectiles, they tend to be very telegraphed and prone to being perfect parried. In addition to this, his fireball zoning game can have some interesting uses, but overall Terry can quickly find himself in a situation where he cannot keep up in a fireball war.
At the end of the day, Brian feels that Terry is actually a lot of fun to play in Street Fighter 6. That having been said, he places Terry around middle of the pack when it comes to the tier list, saying that he feels like characters such as Ryu or Ken are better, similar picks.
