A road crash at Nteje in Oyi Local Government area of Anambra state early Sunday morning claimed one life and left several others injured.
The accident involves a commercial Mercedes Tipper with the registration number XA158ZT which collided with an unregistered private motorcycle, along Awka-Onitsha Expressway
Eyewitnesses at the scene told reporters that the road crash was as a result of wrong overtaking by the cyclist.
“The motorcycle rider attempted to wrongly overtake the tipper, but unfortunately lost control, resulting in a fall and the tipper collided with him.
“The crash took a toll on three males and one female adult. Regrettably, one male adult lost his life, leaving a sorrowful void in the hearts of the loved ones.
“The female sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital for prompt medical treatment, while the two males escaped unhurt,” one of the bystanders said.
The DTO team from Oyi Division respond to the scene before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team from RS5.3 Nteje. Together, they worked to provide assistance and support to the victims.
The deceased was taken away by family members.
Joyce Nnenaya, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp, Anambra state, while confirming the incident, expressed her condolences to the family of the deceased.
She reminded motorists of the importance of vigilance when overtaking.
“Motorists should ensure that the road is clear, be observant of their surroundings, and maintain full concentration while driving.
“This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder that road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Every individual must prioritize their own safety and the well-being of others on the road.
“By driving cautiously and adhering to traffic regulations, we can strive collectively to prevent such devastating accidents from occurring.
“May the memory of the deceased be cherished, and may the injured find strength and healing in the days to come,” Nnenaya added.
