The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 16 governorship election in Ondo state, Agboola Ajayi, has declared that he is the best among the contenders for the number one seat in the state.
Eighteen political parties including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and PDP will participate in the poll according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Ajayi, who spoke at the weekend on a radio programme monitored in Akure, the state capital, said he was the most experienced among the candidates having served as supervisory councillor, council chairman, member of the House of Representatives and deputy governor of the state.
The PDP candidate noted that his seven-point agenda was a rescue plan well designed to take the state out of the woods.
He said the Aiyedatiwa-led administration was not responsive and had thrown the people of the state into the grip of abject poverty.
The erstwhile deputy governor said all the sectors of the state’s economy including the transportation were as good as dead, lamenting that there was no hope of immediate rescue plan.
Ajayi promised to intervene in what he described as the worrisome state of the transportation sector if elected in the coming election.
While unfolding his plan for the sector, the PDP standard bearer said he would take advantage of the youth who were digitally experienced to develop computer applications that would be used to run a subsidised transportation system.
The former federal lawmaker pledged to subsidise the transportation sector to make available 200 cars under a planned Sunshine Taxi project.
According to him, the cars would be given out on hire purchase to drivers who would be expected to offer highly subsidised service.
He said: “I understand Uber operators pay 25 percent of every money made on each service rendered. But with the Sunshine Taxi package, they won’t pay more than 10 percent. We are going to make their repayment plans very flexible.”
Ajayi decried what he described as the uncountable abandoned projects in the state and condemned the incumbent government for its failure to complete the projects of the immediate past governor, the late Rotimi Akeredolu, and those of other former governors which included Akure Stadium and Owena Dam projects.
