Oba Albert Omosebi, the Alajowa of Ajowa in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State has expressed concern over politicians abandoning rural dwellers after winning elections.
Addressing members of the Community Engagement for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa (CELA) group, which recently commenced a door-to-door mobilization across rural areas ahead of the November 16, 2024 gubernatorial election, Oba Omosebi called for sustained engagement with rural populations.
This, he said, would ensure that rural communities enjoy the dividends of democracy.
“Most governments abandon communities after receiving their support during campaigns, leaving such communities disappointed in times of need,” the monarch lamented.
However, he commended the Aiyedatiwa-led government for its rural engagements and urged them to sustain these efforts.
On his part, Chief Olofintuyi Rufus, the traditional leader of Ipoba community in the LGA, stated that it was the first time a gubernatorial aspirant had shown interest in addressing the challenges facing his community.
Earlier, the Convener of CELA, Mr. Iwakun Adeolu, said the group intended to engage rural communities and preach Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s continuity agenda.
“We established this initiative to ensure rural communities are not left behind in the governance of the state. We are here to understand the communities’ needs and what they want the government to do for them,” Adeolu explained.
“We are delighted to receive positive feedback about the Lucky Aiyedatiwa-led administration from our people. The governor is a good listener and understands the responsibility of leading a progressive state like ours. We urge our people to support the continuity of the Aiyedatiwa-led government; it is the best course of action.”
