Olympique Lyonnais suffer injury blow ahead of Europa League clash

As the Europa League quarter-finals approach, all eyes are on the highly anticipated clash between Manchester United and Lyon this Thursday.

United, under the leadership of Ruben Amorim, are gearing up for what promises to be a thrilling encounter as they travel to the Groupama Stadium in France.

United are coming off a string of solid performances in the competition, with their eyes firmly set on the trophy, having emerged as one of the favourites.

Lyon, on the other hand, will look to take advantage of their home crowd and secure a crucial first-leg advantage.

However, Lyon will be without one of their key players for the fixture.

Winger Ernest Nuamah, who has been a standout performer for the French club this season, will be sidelined for an extended period after suffering an ACL rupture in his left knee.

The Ghanaian international sustained the injury just five minutes into Lyon’s Ligue 1 match against Lille last Saturday, where the club triumphed 2-1.

Ernest Nuamah was forced to leave the pitch early, and despite initial concerns, Lyon’s medical staff confirmed the worst: a ruptured ACL that will keep him out for months.

The 21-year-old’s absence is a major blow for Lyon as they prepare for the crucial Europa League encounter against United.

In a statement, Lyon expressed their full support for Nuamah and assured fans that they would do everything possible to help him recover and return to action as soon as possible.

With the severity of the injury, it’s expected that Nuamah won’t be available for the first months of the 2025-2026 season.

Adding to Lyon’s challenges, winger Malick Fofana is also set to miss the first leg of the quarter-final due to injury.

Despite these setbacks, Lyon will still look to put up a strong fight against a Manchester United side eager to make their mark in Europe under Amorim’s guidance.

The first leg in France will be a crucial test for both teams as they look to gain an edge ahead of the return fixture at Old Trafford.
