Slavia Prague defender Igoh Ogbu has opened up about his aspirations to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, revealing his unwavering belief in destiny and hard work as he awaits a call-up.
The 24-year-old, who recently joined Fulham’s Calvin Bassey as one of Nigeria’s most highly rated defenders following Transfermarkt’s latest valuation update of 8 million euros, remains unselected by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) or interim Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen.

The former flying eagle’s defender has played 21 games across all competitions this season for the Czech champions.
A Cherished Dream
For Ogbu, representing Nigeria is more than a professional goal—it is a lifelong dream shared by many young footballers in the country.
“For me, the Super Eagles is a team that every Nigerian kid dreams of,” Ogbu told Tribalfootball. “Every footballer wants to play for his country, to wear the jersey and be proud of it.”
Despite his ambitions, Ogbu remains patient and focused on his development.
“I’m not in a haste. I just believe in what I can do, and I have to wait. Other Nigerians are playing, and other players are there as well. It will always come to be your time if you keep working hard and improving your game. It will happen in God’s timing,” he added.
Personal Challenges
Ogbu also shared a poignant memory of his last contact with the NFF, which coincided with the passing of his father. The moment left a lasting impression on the defender, reinforcing his resolve to remain steadfast as he awaits his opportunity.

Resilience Behind the Mask
Ogbu’s journey has not been without challenges. He recently suffered a fractured zygomatic arch during a match against Viktoria Plzen, a facial injury that has required him to wear a protective mask.
Recalling the incident, Ogbu told Afrik-Foot: “They took me on a stretcher, and the next thing, I tried to touch my face, but it was not normal, the way it should be. The doctor then told me I had a fracture on my face.”
The sight of Ogbu playing with the mask has drawn comparisons to Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen, who famously wore a similar mask after a facial injury with Napoli.
