Official Ed screen shots, alternate costume, special moves list shown for Street Fighter 6

Capcom just hit the Street Fighter 6 community with what might be the hypest DLC character trailer yet as Thursday’s Ed showcase has come out as nothing short of impressive.

The Psycho Power-infused fighter is coming back for his second playable appearance and bringing a brand new stage, Ruined Lab, with him. Continue on to see a full gallery of official screen shots from the PlayStation Blog as well as a sneak peak at Ed’s special moves list.

Ruined Lab looks to be the remains of one of M. Bison’s Shadaloo bases following a huge clash of good and evil. We spot a handful of recognizable Easter eggs included throughout, such as glass containers with clone bodies of the original Seth and M. Bison’s iconic red hat.

This all feels more than appropriate to include with Ed seeing as the character himself was created in a Shadaloo lab as an alternate body for the evil Bison.

Game Director Takayuki Nakayama adds a few details to train our focus while we assess the newcomer. “Ed is a high-speed boxer. We designed his lower half so that you can clearly see his nimble footwork and added some volume to his upper body to make his punches look impactful,” he starts.

“We also hope you take notice of the emblem on his chest and the design on his back. His attack animations have also changed significantly from Street Fighter 5. To respect his background as a traditional boxer, all his attacks are now punches (except for his Level 2 Super Art). His kick buttons have been designated to various flicker attacks.”

That’s right, no more kick techniques for the boxing-based character, which attends to a gripe we heard fans express with a decent amount of regularity over the last handful of years. Developers were sure to attend to another big question fans had leading up to Ed’s release: simplified controls.

Ed was designed in SF5 to be a relatively simpler character to use, and thus be more attractive for newer players. Street Fighter 6 has two control schemes for all characters, Classic and Modern, and so community members have been wondering exactly what kinds of inputs Ed will use in his Classic style.

“We decided to keep his simplified inputs and incorporated them in his Modern Controls while creating expanded inputs for his Classic Controls,” writes Capcom Senior Social Media and Community Manager, Andy Wong. “Ed now has quarter-circle and dragon-punch inputs for his special moves in Classic.”

Speaking of classic, Ed will also get his classic story attire from Street Fighter 5 as an alternate costume. You can see this, a bunch of shots of standard Ed showing off specials in Ruined Lab, and Ed’s special attack move listings in the gallery here:
