Arsenal have confirmed that Mohamed Elneny has extended his contract to 2024, with the Egypt international’s deal previously set to expire this summer.

“I’m so happy, I love this club and our supporters so much and I’ll give everything to help us be the best we can be, every day I’m here,” Elneny said.

“It makes me so proud to have represented this amazing club since 2016. The spirit and togetherness we have in our squad right now is so positive and I’m so happy I have extended my contract.”

Though Elneny’s previous deal expired in 2023, it had an option to extend to 2024.

However, James Benge reports that this new deal is a fresh one-and-a-half-year contract, not Arsenal simply activating their option in his old deal.

Part of that may be to do with a renegotiation of his terms. After all, Elneny is set to be out injured until at least the end of the season.

Arsenal would have been well within their rights to simply let Elneny’s old deal expire and let him leave. But the club are evidently keen to see the midfielder through his injury rehabilitation.

Whether activating an option to extend or signing fresh terms, the end result for the fans is the same either way. Elneny will remain at Arsenal until 2024.
