Oden Ewa Foundation Rescues Mother of Six with Life-threatening Uterine Prolapse

A 35-year-old woman, Mrs. Helen Edet Ikoi, from Ijiman community, Cross River State has received a life-saving medical intervention from the Oden Ewa Foundation after a viral video showing her distressing health condition drew public attention.

Mrs. Ikoi, a mother of six, was battling Uterine Prolapse, a severe gynecological condition in which the uterus slips into or beyond the vaginal canal due to weakened pelvic muscles. The condition left her in chronic pain and unable to carry out basic activities, prompting her emotional appeal for help in a video that circulated widely online.

The video caught the attention of Mr. Henry Ekwe Obono, popularly known as Jimpere, who said he was moved by the woman’s suffering. “When I forwarded the video to Dr. Usani Ofem, Director of Administration of the Oden Ewa Foundation, I only hoped the Foundation might look into it,” he recalled. “To my greatest surprise, they acted immediately. The speed and compassion with which they responded were overwhelming, considering the high cost of such a medical condition.”

Within hours of receiving the video, the Oden Ewa Foundation mobilized resources to assist Mrs. Ikoi. Without waiting for the usual administrative procedures, the Foundation arranged for her to be taken to a medical facility where she underwent urgent surgery and post-operative care, all fully funded by the Foundation.

Speaking after her successful treatment, an emotional Mrs. Ikoi expressed her gratitude: “I had lost hope completely. My condition was worsening, and I thought I would die and leave my children behind. But God used the Oden Ewa Foundation to restore my life. I can walk again and smile again.”

Her husband also expressed appreciation, saying, “We had no money, no help, and no direction. The Foundation’s intervention was divine. They gave us back our happiness and peace.”

Mr. Obono, who first shared the video, said the Foundation’s quick intervention restored his faith in humanity. “Dr. Usani and his team didn’t just talk—they acted. That’s what leadership and compassion should look like,” he added.

In a brief statement, Dr. Usani Ofem, Director of Administration of the Foundation, reaffirmed their commitment to serving humanity. “Our goal is to bring hope where there is despair. Every life matters to us, and we will continue to respond swiftly to cases that require urgent attention,” he stated.

Over the years, the Oden Ewa Foundation has earned a strong reputation for its humanitarian interventions in health care, education, and community welfare. The Foundation’s swift response to Mrs. Ikoi’s condition further solidifies its standing as a lifeline for the underprivileged across Cross River State.
