Job Description:
As an Occupational Hygienist at Venetia Mine, you will play a crucial role in implementing, evaluating, coordinating, and managing occupational hygiene programs to ensure legal compliance and foster a safe and healthy workplace. Your efforts will contribute significantly to minimizing the Mine’s risk of litigation and adverse publicity while promoting a culture of safety and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify workplace conditions that may cause illness or adverse health effects.
- Assess occupational health risks and recommend control measures.
- Conduct audits to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
- Analyze occupational exposure data and provide trend analysis.
- Provide education and training on occupational health hazards and risks.
- Assist in incident investigations and setting up PPE standards.
- Interprets group strategy and guidelines into systems and procedures
- Interpret legislative requirements and implement appropriate measures.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve occupational hygiene objectives and targets.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards and leading practices
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline.
- Honours Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline will be advantageous.
- 6 years of Occupational Hygiene and or Ventilation experience in underground mining and/or processing environment.
- 3 years of Occupational Hygiene and or Ventilation experience in a supervisor or management position.
- Registration with the South African Institute of Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH) as an Occupational Hygienist will be highly advantageous.
- Chamber of Mines Certificate in Mine Environmental Control (MEC)
- Must operate at a strategic level
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field is advantageous.
Role-specific Knowledge:
- Broad technical knowledge of occupational hygiene, health and mining sector surveillance.
- Experience with Occupational Management Systems.
- In-depth understanding of applicable legislation and statutory requirements.
- Ability to interpret data analytically and follow up on trends.
- Proficiency in SAP and or other relevant software.
- Good understanding of the impact of occupational hygiene stressor to the health and safety of employees
- Sound knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act and relevant Codes of Practice.
