The Strands today is not going to be an easy one to decipher. I still can’t register what went down exactly. While it was all over the place and maybe even broken, I managed to solve it. With that, I have collected the hints and answers for March 27 NYT Strands. This is going to be an interesting one so, read on.
What is the Theme for Today’s NYT Strands?
As revealed by the New York Times, the theme for today’s Strands is “This is where I draw the line”.
The inaccurate placement and alignment of the grid instantly threw me off and all that today’s theme could potentially mean started fading out. Whether it was an intentional move by NYT editors or just a glitch, it definitely made me go bonkers. So, it’s understandable if you are here trying to make some sense of it. Soon, you will.

Spoiler Warning #1
Even though we try our best to be subtle, the hints below might partially spoil the experience. You’ve been warned.
Every Strands game has that one Spangram that you need to decipher. Today’s Spangram was no exception and the hint it is – “artist’s forms of expressions”.
Theme Words Hints for Today’s Strands
Now, if you have figured out the Spangram from the above hint, figuring out the theme words will understandably be fairly easy. However, I don’t want to ruin it for you. Instead, here are hints to 2 out of 6 theme words that may help you:
- Hint #1: You used to read these as a child
- Hint #2: Can’t stop scribbling these out

List of Theme Words for NYT Strands on March 27
If you have scrolled this far, you are probably ready to see the answers. So, let’s take a look at today’s theme words in Strands:
- COMIC
- SKETCH
- PORTRAIT
- DOODLE
- CARTOON
- DESIGN
If you take a careful look at today’s solved Strands above, you will see how insanely bewildering everything is. The board’s alignment is completely off so, don’t think about going about it like you normally do. I’ll shed some more clarity on this soon.
Going by NYT’s way of baffling us, I honestly thought that today’s game was messed up on purpose. But, I realized that there was definitely something wrong in the backend. Finding COMIC at the top right edge and SKETCH in the column right next to it was not hard. DOODLE was also easy to spot in the middle.
However, when it came to the other words, I found myself desperately rummaging through unrelated words for a hint. Then, I saw CARTOON highlighted on the grids, with half of the words scattered at the opposite end. This is clearly not how strands works and I realized that it was broken Here’s how it looked:
When forming CARTOON, connect it from the O at the top. Else, it won’t connect. Similarly, you will find PORTRAIT at the top right edge, with the T on the leftmost column. That took another hint though. With that, it didn’t take me long to figure out GRAPHICART as the Spangram today.
I found DESIGN right at the bottom. With that, our Strands for the day was solved. Oh also, ignore that comma; it’s pointless. The good thing is that we still only had to use two hints to make out the puzzle. NYT, please don’t do this to us again.
So, that was my journey with Strands today. What about you? Did today’s Strands baffle you as well? How many hints did you require? Let me know in the comments down below!
