July 24, 2024 MANHATTAN, New York – A possible pipe bomb was removed by the NYPD Bomb Squad after police were alerted to the suspicious device outside of a police precinct in East Harlem, officials said.
Two adult male cousins were involved in a domestic dispute that occurred inside a vehicle Wednesday afternoon.
Police were alerted by the driver of a car after the pair stopped the car outside of the 25th Precinct in East Harlem.
According to police officials, the driver told officers he was hit in the head with a machete by his cousin, causing a bruise and some bleeding.
The driver also mentioned to officers about an explosive device in the vehicle, said NYPD Assistant Chief Ruel Stephenson.
Police located the possible device in the car and took the passenger into custody. Officers evacuated the Precint and secured the area as a precautionary measure.
Bomb Squad and Emergency Services Units along with EMS responded to the scene on East 119th Street between Lexington Avenue and Park Avenue.
According to police, the alleged device maker was possibly experiencing a mental health emergency.
No reported injuries as the investigation continues in Harlem.
