The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCOS) to boost security across the nation’s capital.
Odumosu pledged this while receiving the newly appointed FCT Controller of Corrections, Ajibogun Olatubosun, during a familiarization visit to the NSCDC command Headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
Highlighting the shared responsibilities of both agencies, Odumosu called for synergy to ensure the safety of residents, the protection of critical national assets, and the security of custodial facilities within the territory.
“Our work is intertwined, and the two agencies need each other to actualize the mandate for which we were established.
“We must put behind us any differences that could foster unhealthy rivalry and instead work hand in hand to promote people-oriented security,” he said.
The Commandant cited the deployment of an NSCDC gun truck to a custodial facility in the FCT as a symbol of the corps’ support and genuine collaboration with the NCOS, aimed at forestalling attacks on correctional facilities and protecting inmates.
He further disclosed that NSCDC personnel maintain a 24-hour surveillance system in the FCT, with covert operatives also actively gathering intelligence, which will be shared with the NCOS when necessary.
“Our resilience in protecting critical national assets remains unwavering. It is my desire that residents of the FCT can sleep with both eyes closed, knowing that security agencies are working in synergy for their safety.
“Our gun truck as we speak is stationed at your custodial facility as a testament to our support and genuine collaboration with your agency, which is aimed at protecting the people of the metropolis and preventing any unsolicited attacks on your facilities and inmates”, the Commandant added.
In his remarks, Controller Ajibogun Olatubosun expressed gratitude for the warm reception and noted that the visit was intended to foster collaboration between the two sister agencies under the Federal Ministry of Interior.
He acknowledged the importance of leveraging the expertise and experience of the NSCDC in improving correctional security and pledged the NCOS’s readiness to collaborate at all times on matters of shared interest.
“Synergy and collaboration are sacrosanct, and we are fully committed to this partnership,” Olatubosun affirmed.
