No Vanessa or Terry in Top 8, 2 F.A.N.Gs in Top 16 and a whole lotta Ky represented for character usage at Texas Showdown

Now that offline fighting game majors are back in full swing, fans and players are being treated to top tier action across every game almost every weekend, which is certainly great to see.

Texas Showdown 2022 is the latest to wrap up last night with Guilty Gear Strive, The King of Fighters 15 and Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition being among the biggest games of the tournament, and each of them had some very interesting results in terms of character usage.

While the big 3 of Vanessa, Ralf and Terry have been on a tear in KOF15 events the past few months, that wasn’t the case this time around considering there’d only be a single big boy to show up in all of Top 8.

Joe and Robert were actually the ones to see the most picks in Top 16 with some other cool picks to see in action including B. Jenet, Rock Howard, Krohnen, Ángel and Antonov.

If you’ve been waiting to see a KOF event with great diversity, it’d probably be a good idea to go back and watch through Texas Showdown if you missed it.

On the Guilty Gear side of things, Millia was the most popular pick of Top 32 with 5 players picking up results with the speed demon although only 1 would take her to the final day.

King Ky would be the one to walk away with the most success of the weekend with 3 electric mains reaching Top 8, but just about everyone got some sort of representation in the upper bracket aside from Jack-O, Testament, Faust and Anji.

As for Street Fighter 5, we got to see a whopping 13 different main picks for Top 16 with Ken, Juri and surprisingly F.A.N.G being the only repeats of the top placers.

Technically, there were 19 different characters repped by the Top 16 players, but a bunch of those came just from PG|Punk, who busted out 6 characters over the course of the tournament.

We also got to see an Oro, Cody and Ibuki mains each make Top 8, which is interesting to see for one of the first SF5 majors following the Definitive Update dropped — and also not a Luke in sight.
