Police have charged a Bridgeton man in the hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian dead last month in Salem County.
Christopher Poore, 23, faces charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident and tampering with evidence following the wreck in Pittsgrove, State Police said.
Early Sept. 28, 45-year-old Allen Miller Jr. of Vineland was hit and killed by a vehicle traveling east on Route 40 near milepost 20.5. Police said the driver fled the scene of the wreck, which happened just before 3 a.m.
Miller was a lifelong resident of Pittsgrove and a Navy veteran who enjoyed fishing on the Longport Bridge in Somers Point and spending time with family, according to an obituary from Adams Funeral Home.
Poore was arrested Monday at his home following an investigation, police said. He was released pending a future court date. No attorney information for him was available.
Anyone who witnessed the crash — or the events prior to or following it — was asked to contact State Police at 856-451-0101.
