Nintendo Switch accessory manufacturer leaks new details about the Nintendo Switch 2

Though the Switch’s successor has yet to be announced, we recently heard back in February that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been delayed until 2025. Based on how hollow Nintendo’s announcements for 2024 have been so far, it’s beginning to feel like the rumor is likely a true one.

The last time we had a standard Nintendo Direct (not counting Partner Showcases, Indie Worlds, or a Pokémon Presents) was back in September 2023. Needless to say, it seems like Nintendo is holding off on making an official announcement regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 (unofficial name), but a known Nintendo Switch accessory manufacturer has seemingly released details about Nintendo’s upcoming console.

As highlighted by R on ResetEra, Mobapad has apparently posted some information about the Nintendo Switch 2 on their Facebook and Bilibili pages.

A look at Mobapad’s English store page indicates that they have a history of developing third-party pro controllers and Joy-Cons for the Nintendo Switch. Their Joy-Cons are notable bigger than Nintendo’s first-party Joy-Cons, which is interesting considering some of the details that have supposedly been revealed.

According to their Chinese post on Bilibili, the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Con and Pro controllers will be usable on the Switch 2. These controllers will feature HD vibrations, just like on the Switch.

It’s also be reaffirmed that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with its predecessor. Supposedly, the Switch 1’s cartridges will fit into the Switch 2, but games made specifically for the Switch 2 will have unique cartridges that won’t fit in the Switch 1.

The Joy-Cons for the Nintendo Switch 2 are said to be larger. They’ll also attach to the console via an electromagnet. It’s stated that the SL and SR buttons are metallic now, and there are a couple of extra buttons on the input devices.

This new console will have a USB-C port, just like the Nintendo Switch. However, it would seem that this new dock will support 4K resolution, which is something we haven’t heard rumors about since 2021 though that was with the Nintendo Switch Pro that never came to be.

In handheld mode, the Switch 2 also has a new kickstand with a damping bracket that improves on the possible angles that it can be placed at. It always felt like the Switch’s kickstand was a little flimsy, so this is nice to hear.

Finally, the Switch 2’s screen is said to be bigger, rumored at being 8 inches larger than the Switch. While in its handheld form, the Switch 2 will be able to support 1080p resolution, which is an improvement over the Switch’s 720p resolution.

In response to all of this, Pyoro, Nintendo insider that’s generally perceived to be the most reliable leaker currently, has mentioned that this info has been mentioned in “private discussions,” though his source is unable to fully confirm it all at this time.

We’re still playing the waiting game in regards to the Nintendo Switch 2’s official unveiling, which is likely to happen this summer. However, if all this turns out to be true, then we should be expecting a fairly powerful machine with the Nintendo Switch 2.
