The Flamingos of Nigeria secured their place in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals in the Dominican Republic with a convincing 2-0 victory over Liberia.
The win not only sealed their qualification but also gave them a commanding 6-1 aggregate lead in the final stage of the qualifiers.
Harmony Chidi emerged as the standout performer, adding two goals to her remarkable tally, which now stands at a record-breaking 13 goals in the qualifying series.
Chidi wasted no time in asserting Nigeria’s dominance, scoring just four minutes into the game with a well-placed shot past the Liberian goalkeeper.
Despite several missed opportunities, including shots hitting the crossbar from Peace Effiong and Shakirat Moshood, Nigeria maintained control throughout the match.
A defensive lapse by Liberia late in the second half allowed Chidi to score her second goal of the game and secure Nigeria’s victory.
The eighth edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will take place in the Dominican Republic from October 16th to November 3rd.
The Flamingos will aim to build on their impressive qualifying performance and make a mark on the global stage.
