Head Coach Bankole Olowookere has announced his 21-woman squad for the Flamingos, Nigeria’s U17 Women’s National Team, ahead of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
The team includes Captain Taiwo Afolabi, forward Harmony Chidi, and Peace Effiong. Chidi, who scored 13 of the team’s 25 goals during the qualifiers, will lead the attack. The Flamingos had an impressive qualifying run, defeating Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, and Liberia.
In midfield, Afolabi will be supported by Faridat Abdulwahab, Shakirat Moshood, and Ayomide Rotimi. Christiana Uzoma is the first-choice goalkeeper, with Sylvia Echefu and Elizabeth Boniface ready to compete for the spot.
Defender Taiwo Adegoke will lead a strong defensive lineup, while Harmony Chidi heads a forward line that includes six other strikers, such as Peace Effiong.
Nigeria is placed in Group A and will compete against the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand. The team will leave Nigeria on October 1st for a two-week training camp in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, before the tournament begins.
