In the Presidential Town Hall Meeting organised at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, it was announced that the Ministry of Niger-Delta Affairs as part of President Muhammadu Buhari's policy of driving technology transfer will be training Nigerians of Niger Delta extraction on GSM manufacturing and assembling.
It was gleaned that the Ministry of the Niger Delta had concluded plans to establish a GSM Assembly Plant in Calabar. Minister Usani Uguru Usani announced this at a Town Hall meeting held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State last week. He said youth from the Niger Delta will be trained abroad and deployed in the Assembly Plant.
According to Pastor Usani, 'the policy is designed to drive technology transfer in the area of local manufacturing of GSM handsets'.
Present at the meeting were the Minister of Transportation, Barr. Rotimi Amaechi; Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachukwu, etc.
