NFF endorsed Gernot Rohr as new Super Eagles head coach

Nigerian Football Federation, NFF may unveil Gernot Rohr as the new Super Eagles’ head coach, following the decision taken by the country’s football house’ technical and development committee, who suggested the former Burkina Faso man is fit for the job.

After Frenchman, Paul Le Guen rejected the technical adviser’s job, insisting the Amaju Pinnick led board did not meet his terms and conditions, Nigeria have been without a permanent coach since the resignation of former coach Sunday Oliseh who said people were using juju (voodoo). Samson Siasia and Salisu Yusuf were also given interim roles at different times but could not hold up following the country’s poor outing at the 2016 African Nations Championship.

Rohr, 63, was last around last month shortlisted for the Guinea head coach job had managed French outfit Bordeaux before his stints with Etoile du Sahel, FC Nantes, Gabon, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso.

Seeing Rohr’s records and outings, Ahmed Yusuf Fresh said in a brief response that the German is well fit for the job when being called to at Abuja, last July. Without doubt, his statement reads; “The committee was impressed with Mr. Rohr’s profile and current activities for the German Football Federation (DFB), so we invited him to Nigeria for exhaustive deliberations,” he told NFF website.

“Mr. Rohr has the character and confidence to take the Super Eagles to new heights of excellence. He has rich knowledge of both sub–Saharan and North African terrains and truly impressed the committee”.

Fresh also said that Mr. Rohr can also well lead Nigeria to the Russia 2018 world cup without doubts based on his experience and at the same time, the NFF legal department is working on the final draft of the contract but we have agreed on a range of terms and conditions. “The secretariat will present the full contract to Mr. Rohr in the following days and the executive board will contact Mr. Rohr for the final negotiations,” he added.

We wish him and the board of members including the team well, as he’ll be signing the contract soon.
