Obudu Wild Fires: Community Relations Officer Implores NEMA, SEMA To Rescue Affected Communities
The Community Relations Officer for Obudu Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Akwagiobe, has warned the people of the area against indiscriminate and uncontrolled burning of bushes for whatever purpose and more especially during this period of dry, hazy and chilly harmattan winds. He also condemned in its totality the rate of incessant fire outbreaks in homes and business areas saying the devastating effect of such wild fire can adversely alter the entire life style of whosoever may be involved.Akwagiobe stated this during an inspection to some of the affected areas that were engulfed by wildfire, where many acres of farm lands were completely burnt by the inferno, in order to ascertain the extent of destruction. The affected farm produce which include: cocoa, yams, plantain, banana and many others were consumed by what is incidentally the most severe fire incident that has ever occurred in the area.Communities most affected are the people of Kubong-Bette, Kutiang, Okorshie and Ibong-Begiaka and Nkerira respectively in Angiaba/Begiaka ward, Begiading ward and Utugwang Central. The CRO further disclosed that unfavorable conditions at the scenes of the incidents occasioned by thick smoke has hampered effort to determine the actual extent of destruction. He therefore called on both the National and State Emergency Management Agencies (NEMA/SEMA) respectively to come to the rescue as the destroyed farms are the only source of livelihood for affected communities. -

How the signpost naming of streets in Ugep has turned the town into a mini City
Seeing cities like Calabar, Lagos, Port-Harcourt, Uyo, Kano, Kaduna, Abuja, Jos, Ibadan, and other state capitals with well named Street signpost makes you feel the civilization within, especially as it keeps your way clean throughout the cities. But, why concentrate on state capitals alone whereas we have other big towns that also harbours a population that needs directions. People need something to lead and guide them through whenever they’re lost, so this is also needed. Thank God things has begin to change in Cross River.
When I passed through the town of Ugep, the largest village in West Africa, I saw this new development that called my attention, I have to pause and wait and take photos of the project that has made the town more renown that before. All thanks to the able government of Cross River State, this is why I always boast about my state outside. This is why I love Cross River.
This should also be extended to big towns like Ikom, Ogoja and Obudu within the state as it’ll attract more tourist activities in which we are meant for. With this in full place, it’ll help the state in terms of online trade and other interstate trade concerning addresses issues we used to have and still having today.
This is Ugep…..!
