  • Cristiano Ronaldo breaks silence on Rasmus Hojlund

During their 1-0 win over Portugal on Thursday, Denmark’s Rasmus Holjund followed his 78th-minute goal with Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic “siu” celebration.

The Danish striker scored the only goal of the game after only entering the pitch 9 minutes before, and seemingly mocked the visiting side by using Ronaldo’s famed celebration against him but we all know that wasn’t true as Hojlund explained after the game why he celebrated with “siu”.

The dramatic game at Parken Stadium was the two nations’ first leg encounter in their UEFA Nations League quarter-final clash, with the second set to be played tomorrow at Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, Portgual.

The two nations competed relentlessly to put a score over on the other, with the Danes putting in 23 attempts at goal versus Portugal’s 8.

And so when the final and only goal came of Holjund’s boot, it meant that much more to the men beside and the fans watching him.

However, Ronaldo has since responded to Holjund’s choice of celebration, saying “Højlund doing my celebration is not a problem. I know it wasn’t out of disrespect”.

The Portuguese striker went on to point out that Holjund was not the first to copy his signature celebration, and he likely won’t be the last, and so has taken no offence to the gesture.

Shortly after the game had finished, Holjund told the Danish news organisation DR, “I fell in love with football because of Cristiano”, further showing no evidence of bad blood between himself and the footballing legend.

Besides, any lingering beef over Holjund’s choice of celebration can be settled in Lisbon tomorrow.

  • Sir Alex Ferguson returns to management in goalfest victory

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has returned to management this weekend in a ridiculous 12-goal thriller.

Whilst at Old Trafford, Ferguson’s side registered some impressive victories, with a 9-0 win over Ipswich in the 1994/95 Premier League being his biggest win.

Today, the Scot travelled to Italy, taking the helm of one of the sides in Giuseppe Rossi’s farewell match.

Taking place in Florence, key figures from Rossi’s 19-year career reunited with the Italian to take part after his retirement in 2023.

Ferguson was invited to manage one of the sides as Rossi’s first coach when he signed for Manchester United in 2004 at the age of 17.

Speaking about his former coach managing in the game, Rossi commented: “I only did three years with him and played little, but he immediately said yes and this shows what kind of person he is. I did little at United but he treats me like Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored 1000 goals.”

Also returning for the game were legends like Luca Toni, Mario Gomez and former United teammate Nemanja Vidic.

However, Vidic was starting against his former teammate, with Rossi switching sides at half-time after scoring his only goal of the game.

Ultimately, the Pepito team won 7-5, marking an incredible game to send off Rossi from his playing days.

The farewell match was no doubt an exciting occasion for both Rossi and Ferguson as they were reunited after 18 years.

  • Nottingham Forest star wanted by Manchester United

Manchester United have expressed great interest in signing a young midfielder from Nottingham Forest.

This new star would not be the first that Ruben Amorim scooped up in preparation for the summer, with players like Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven joining the Red Devils’ roster in the last transfer window.

After a string of mixed results, and pressure’s from above for his team to perform, Amorim reckons young talent is the way up for United.

This Forest youngster isn’t the only one Amorim has eyes for, though, with TeamTalk recently reporting that the Portuguese manager is “keen on a reunion with Viktor Gyokeres” as well.

With only a handful of matches left, and sights set on the next transfer window, it would seem that beefing up the Red Devils’ 3-4-2-1 formation is Amorim’s elected way forward.

According to Mick Brown, via Football Insider, Ruben Amorim is a “big fan” of Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White.

With 5 goals and 7 assists for Forest so far this season, the 25 year-old would only add value to the team by slotting in at attacking midfield.

However, the cost of acquiring such a talented player may raise difficulties for Old Trafford, with Forest reportedly asking for offers North of £70M for the young Englishman.

Currently sitting in 13th in the Premier League, and with the Europa league looking like their final opportunity for European football next season, United desperately need the likes of Gibbs-White to fortify their chances of success.

  • What is behind Manchester United’s recent resilience?

In the last seven games, Man Utd have lost only once.

It’s not a season whereby there are pace-setters who are winning game after game.

It pays more to be solid and dig results out. Compared to the dreadful form Man Utd had before this spell of games, particularly in the league, some needed resilience and fight has meant the Red Devils entered the international break with a spring in their steps.

Buoyed by a professional rout of Real Sociedad and having a Europa League quarter final to look forward to has helped, so to has going four unbeaten in the league beating Ipswich Town and Leicester City, whilst Man Utd could’ve also beaten Arsenal had late chances been taken.

It’s not a full revival of the dreadful season yet, more of a ‘mini-revival’ and though we’ve scraped the barrel this season looking for positives, this is the best form so far under Ruben Amorim as the Portuguese manager said so himself.

    So, what’s changed?

    Attacking Set-Pieces

Believe or not, though Man Utd struggled hugely with conceding from set-pieces throughout the season, they’ve scored 5 goals from set-pieces in the last 4 games.

Two of the goals have been a direct result of Fernandes placing a free-kick in the corner (Arsenal and Everton) and the other three came against Ipswich Town with United players getting on the end of his delivery.

Fernandes has clearly worked more on his delivery and United have worked on set-pieces with positive results.

It’s still a team where the attack is injury ravaged and doesn’t score many goals, embracing this inventive method that other teams have at a desperate time in the season makes sense as Kieran Mckenna also spoke of Man Utd’s height after Ipswich Town lost at Old Trafford.

Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund, Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Casemiro all pose a threat in the air.

For a long time, Bruno Fernandes’ delivery from set-pieces was under par.

As the lynchpin and star man of the team it’s incredible that he’s found another gear and has worked on improving another area of his game to create goals for the Red Devils.

    Dazzling Bruno Fernandes

Other legends of Man Utd sit in TV studios and berate about how the team is ‘not good enough’ with a constant comparison back to ‘when we were playing’.

The key aspect that is overlooked is the former stars of yesteryear never worked in such trying circumstances.

Fernandes rather than fold and lose his head like he was earlier on in the season with the red cards he was getting has stood up and been counted when Man Utd have needed a hero the most.

A hat-trick vs Real Sociedad and nine goal involvements in his last seven games is talismanic levels of form.

Man Utd have needed a hero for years, Fernandes deserves more credit than ever because he’s the hero Man Utd have needed and not deserved.

Despite the team over the seasons crumbling, Fernandes has never let his performance levels or concentration be effected by the negative drama around the club.

Man Utd have had a catalogue of stars in the past, but they were largely elevated by other players around them, Fernandes has almost never had a consistent partner to rely on to lift the club, he’s had to do everything himself.

Even whilst being deployed in a deeper midfield role, Fernandes has adapted, not complained and is having an influence on games in a role that needs him to be a calmer presence on the pitch.

Without the forward, Manchester United would be having an even worse season.

    Confidence

It has certainly helped that against Ipswich Town and Arsenal, mainly because the circumstances required a switch in tactics, Ruben Amorim switched to a style of play that was low block and counter-attacking.

Rather than what we’ve seen since the manager came in where we’re watching the team adapt to a rigid set of tactics, Man Utd had to dig in, defend and counter.

The two performances gave the team a lift and a needed boost, whereas previously confidence was on the floor.

The fixture list after the international break is much tougher, with a tricky Europa League tie to negotiate.

Imperatively however, Man Utd will return from the break with some good performances under their belt and their talisman in red hot form.

The season is not yet beyond salvaging, considering how Man Utd have played that is remarkable.

If they can fighting, relying on Bruno Fernandes and get more game time in Ruben Amorim’s system a good end to the season will be welcomed.

  • Manchester United make contact to sign Greece wonderkid

Manchester United are still looking at recruiting the top young talent in world football to create a future class of elite Red Devils.

Across the last two transfer windows, United have recruited Leny Yoro, Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven to the senior squad, whilst unreal talents like Chido Obi, Sekou Kone, Samuel Lusale and James Overy have all joined the academy.

We also know that 17-year-old left-back Diego Leon has signed his contract to move to United in the summer from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno.

However, United aren’t stopping there, keeping eyes on young talent like Tyler Dibling of Southampton and Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg from Sunderland.

Now, The Red Devils are looking slightly further afield, identifying a hot young prospect in Greece.

Manchester United contact Olympiacos for Charalampos Kostoulas

Greek outlet SportTime has now reported that Manchester United have made contact with Greek Super League leaders Olympiacos for their talented young striker Charalampos Kostoulas.

The 17-year-old has come through the Olympiacos academy, joining the senior side this season, already making his presence known.

Whilst the striker has missed the last two games due to a muscle injury, Kostoulas has netted six goals and grabbed two assists across 33 games.

The Greek side have been capitalising on his versatility, playing him as a central striker and in attacking midfield, making him a great option for Ruben Amorim’s system.

However, United are one of many clubs looking to the young striker this summer, including Juventus, Bayern Munich and Fiorentina.

Not only will United need to fend off these top European clubs, but they’ll also have to fight against Olympiacos themselves as the Greek side are determined that he is not for sale.

As such, The Red Devils will need to offer a considerable offer to sway Olympiacos into parting with their promising young star.

  • Manchester United open talks for Rasmus Hojlund swap deal

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is slowing settling back into form, having now grabbed two goals in two games after a 21-game goalless streak.

Hojlund ended his goal drought against Leicester in United’s 3-0 win before the international break, then added to his tally for Denmark in their 1-0 win over Portugal.

However, it’s not just goals he’s grabbing once again, with an assist to Diogo Dalot against Real Sociedad as The Red Devils booked their slot in the next round of the Europa League.

During his goalless streak, United were beginning to have concerns at being able to offload the star in the summer if he can’t compete at Old Trafford.

However, these worries appear to have eased, with talks taking place to take the star back to Italy.

Manchester United and Napoli enter talks for Rasmus Hojlund

Caught Offside has reported that Napoli are making steps to advance their pursuit of Rasmus Hojlund to bring him back to Serie A this summer.

The Italian side have been monitoring Hojlund for some time now with Antonio Conte being a big fan of the striker.

As part of these talks, the two clubs are also considering and negotiating a move that would see Victor Osimhen move the other way, joining The Red Devils.

Despite his impressive season with 26 goals and five assists in 30 games, Conte has no plans to use the Nigerian striker at Napoli.

However, United have shortlisted the striker as one of their top four strike targets this summer, making a swap deal mutually beneficial.

  • Fabrizio Romano provides Hugo Ekitike transfer update

Manchester United’s recruitment team are scouring Europe for a reliable striker ahead of the summer transfer window, with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike making it onto the shortlist of targets.

The need comes from Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s season-long struggles to find consistency in front of goal. As such, United have been relying heavily on club captain Bruno Fernandes to add to the club’s goal tally.

Hojlund has now ended his 21-game goalless streak with goals against Leicester and Portugal in consecutive games. However, despite his newly found shooting boots, it’s too soon to know if he can be relied upon as a consistent finisher for next season.

If this is the start of a new “in form” Hojlund, United still might look to offload him, with several clubs contracting The Red Devils to discuss a transfer.

As such, United are desperate to bring an in-form striker to Old Trafford at the next opportunity, with a huge update provided by Fabrizio Romano on summer target, Hugo Ekitike.

Hugo Ekitike expected to move this summer

Ekitike has made it onto United’s shortlist with 19 goals and eight assists in 38 games across all competitions in his first full season for Eintracht Frankfurt.

As such, the 22-year-od is generating massive interest from Europe’s elite, who United are hoping to compete with to land the young striker.

Now, Romano has reported that Ekitike is expected to leave Frankfurt in the summer, with several Premier League clubs contacting the Bundesliga side regarding the Frenchman’s availability.

However, Frankfurt will surely be hoping to either hang onto their star striker or get big money for him after they sold Omar Marmoush to Manchester City for £63 million earlier in the season.

Ekitike’s contract is still in place until summer 2029, putting Frankfurt in a really strong position to negotiate a significant transfer fee.

This may be the main issue for United’s signing of the star, with the club’s financial pressures limiting available funds for and summer transfers without sales being made first.

Reports from CaughtOffside today claim Manchester United have already begun talks with Napoli over a potential swap deal involving long-term target Victor Osimhen, which would see the Dane head in the opposite direction.

However, it’s still unclear whether the deal will materialise. Much may depend on how Højlund finishes the season — if his poor form continues, a summer exit becomes increasingly likely.

  • Manchester United force fans to give up season tickets

INEOS and the Manchester United hierarchy are continuously making new decisions, often controversial, in a bid to ease the financial pressures of the club.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently explained that without the difficult measures him and his team have taken, the club would have been bust by Christmas this year.

However, some of these decisions are having wider implications bringing about anger and disappointment from the fans.

In a recent move, United announced a 5% increase on season tickets, however, they also agreed to freeze the prices of tickets for under 16-year-olds.

Now, another decision has been made, directly affecting season ticket holders, resulting in many now being unable to attend matches.

Manchester United move season ticket holders from pitch-side seating

Manchester Evening News has reported that the seating area around the dugout which has previously been season ticket seating is now set to be a “hospitality area” attracting a premium price

This move is one already implemented by Chelsea and Barcelona, with The Red Devils now following suit.

However, as a result, several long-term season ticket holders are concerned they won’t be able to hold onto their tickets due to accessibility.

The seating near the pitch offers easy access both in and out of Old Trafford, with this area being the first season tickets introduced at the stadium.

As such, a significant number of season ticket holders in the zone are senior citizens who also face their 50% discount on season tickets being cut to 25% as well as being moved to areas with more difficult mobility access.

Explaining the situation, one fan who’s held his season ticket for 40 years commented: “The people who are in the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand are the people who’ve been season ticket holders and supporting the club the longest.”

He continued: “There’s been several clips on social media about people talking about having had those season tickets for over 50 years. I’ve had mine for 40. So you’re attacking the people who’ve supported the club through some very thin times over the years, and they’re the people who will continue to bring in the next generation of support.

“With a flimsy email, with no consultation or discussion, tell them you’re off and at the moment we can’t actually tell you where you’re going is really bad. We’ve had contact with a number of people who are thinking if that’s the way it is, I think the love affair’s over, unfortunately.”
