  • Can Man Utd continue their solid form?

Ahead of a tougher schedule after the international break, we will get to see whether Man Utd have actually turned a corner under Ruben Amorim.

Whilst it’s not form to be totally enthusiastic about, performances as Amorim himself said, have improved.

A resilience, fighting spirit and the fabulous form of Bruno Fernandes have given the Red Devils a much needed boost.

Whilst it’s clear playing Ipswich and Leicester are easier fixtures, a professional away performance against Real Sociedad coupled with a resounding win at Old Trafford and two battling performances vs Arsenal and Everton are performances to be encouraged by.

The next key step from now until the end of the season? Getting the team comfortable with Amorim’s principles.

You may say that’s what the team have been wanting to do since the Portuguese manager came in but Amorim has had to deal with a catalogue of injuries whilst juggling a busy schedule.

Whilst they are still in the Europa League and will have to deal with less days of rest, with more players available and Amorim knowing his side a little better, the hope is that in attack Man Utd can finally execute Amorim’s principles successfully.

What has happened for the majority of the season till now, is teams press Man Utd’s back three, press once the ball is played to a wide full-back, before a long hoof up the pitch results in the ball being turned over.

As Man Utd lost more games, confidence took a hit, but progressing to a Europa League quarter final and showing some vigour in the last few games will hopefully give the team a lift.

In Amorim’s rigid system, players need confidence and the need to be spontaneous to find solutions and grow over time.

In a similar vein to Lisandro Martinez before his injury, Amad Diallo or Bruno Fernandes in his deeper central midfield role.

    The opposition will be stern.

An away trip to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday is followed by a Manchester Derby five days later before a tricky away tie to Lyon.

Newcastle, Bournemouth and Chelsea away are amongst the fixtures left.

It’s ironic that Man Utd might have a say in the Champions League race and could influence it with results against these teams because now up until the end of the season is still absolutely significant for the Red Devils to build momentum.

In December, Amorim lost 3 games out of 4 in the league.

The same happened in February as Man Utd lost to Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton.

There is simply no hiding when it comes to the Man Utd job, if a similar run happened again, regardless of what happens in the Europa League pressure will increase on Amorim heading into next season after the summer.

It doesn’t take long for the toxicity and negativity to engulf you, regardless of how well you speak in the media.

Losing in the league is never good, if the form from now till the end of the season was to tail off, you can imagine the mood deteriorating if Man Utd got off to a poor start next season.

What the fans and everyone working at Man Utd is desperate to see is the patterns of Amorim shining, working and the players executing his style of play well.

Controlling the ball for the majority of the game, but moving the ball quicker to find gaps wide for the full-backs leading to crosses in the box.

That’s what Amorim’s style of football typically is.

In the games vs Ipswich Town and Arsenal, Man Utd may have benefitted from the fact Arsenal struggle against a deep block and Patrick Dorgu getting himself sent off vs Ipswich meant Man Utd retreated to defend deeper for 50 minutes.

This isn’t the way Amorim wants to play, circumstances necessitated the switch in style.

There have been some grumblings amongst fans that Amorim should change his way of playing but INEOS knew when they hired the former Sporting CP manager, there is no plan B.

He’s very much a system/philosophy manager, so bringing him in during the winter, the busiest part of the season, gave him less time to implement his ideas with players that aren’t suited to the style he is used to.

It makes every league fixture from now until the end of the season crucial, because at the very least we may get to see what works and what doesn’t, as well as what Amorim might need in his first summer window as Man Utd manager.

Though the season has been nothing short of dreadful, Man Utd remain utterly compelling.

How well the Red Devils do in the remainder of the league fixtures may tell us whether the relationship between Amorim and Man Utd will work or not.

  • Sir Jim Ratcliffe annoys manager with comments

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has attracted criticism yet again after recent comments.

INEOS, co-owned by Ratcliffe, assumed control over football operations at Manchester United in 2024, and a tumultuous, to say the least, year has followed.

The Red Devils sit 13th in the Premier League, with manager Ruben Amorim so far failing to avert the poor form that led to the sacking of Erik ten Hag.

But it is not just the activity on the pitch that has drawn criticism, with the club announcing in February that up to 200 staff members could lose their jobs.

Following the news, reports also emerged that staff would no longer receive free hot meals, in an effort to cut costs amid rising debts.

Ratcliffe, in response to the criticism that followed the reports, told The Times: “Nobody ever gave me a free lunch.”

And the billionaire has yet again drawn disapproval, after his comments about another football club he owns, OGC Nice.

Speaking to The Times, Ratcliffe said: “I don’t particularly enjoy going to watch Nice because there are some good players, but the level of football is not high enough for me to get excited.”

Nice manager Franck Haise was asked about the comments but explained that the interview in which they were made, was more complete than that.

He continued: “But he hasn’t seen a Nice match this season. He is speaking a bit more about what he saw at another time.

“With the people who are here at the club, we are here to make the club progress in order to be even better.”

Nice has enjoyed a positive season under Haise, and currently sit fourth in Ligue 1, just outside of the Champions League places.

The French manager also added: “It’s not that serious. We can be annoyed, that’s obvious. But is it really worth staying annoyed for a long time?”

  • Fabrizio Romano provides positive Amad Diallo injury update

Fabrizio Romano has provided a positive update on an injury suffered by Amad Diallo in February, that had been expected to keep him out for the rest of the season.

The winger has been a beacon of hope in trying times for Manchester United this season, registering six goals and seven assists in the Premier League.

Goals against Manchester City and Liverpool, and a hattrick against Southampton, have given fans a reason to be positive in a season in which cheerful moments have been hard to come by.

However, in February, Ruben Amorim confirmed the winger would be absent for a lengthy period after damaging ligaments in his ankle.

Speaking ahead of a match against Tottenham Hotspur, the Manchester United boss said: “Amad is out for sure until the end of the season.

“Amad was alone. He was doing a tackle.”

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, there could be hope for the winger’s involvement yet this season.

Speaking on X(formerly Twitter), he said: “Amad Diallo, progressing well in his recovery after injury and currently understood to be ahead of schedule.

“Manchester United staff cautious as they won’t take any risks but there’s a real chance for Amad to be back on pitch before the end of the season, around May.”

This latest update will excite Manchester United fans, who will hope there is a chance the Ivorian could play a part in a potential Europa League final.

After beating Real Sociedad over two legs, the Red Devils will now face French club Lyon in the competition’s quarter-final, with both games taking place in April.

Should Amorim’s side progress, they will play Rangers or Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final, with the final set for 21st May at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain.

  • Rio Ferdinand’s son officially joins new club

The son of Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, has officially joined a new club.

Ferdinand, a centre-back, spent 12 years at Old Trafford, making 455 appearances and winning six Premier League titles, and the Champions League.

Born in London, Ferdinand burst onto the scene at West Ham, before making the switch to Leeds.

His performances during the 2002 World Cup with England caught the eye of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who was on the lookout for a new defender.

Following England’s exit at the hands of Brazil, Manchester United decided to sign Ferdinand in a £30m deal that, at the time, saw him become the most expensive British footballer in history.

The move was an instant success, with the Red Devils lifting the Premier League in his first season.

Ferdinand would go on to write himself into the Manchester United history books, winning six Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, and two League Cups.

His son, Lorenz, will be hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps and has officially joined a new club this week.

A statement from non-league club, Havant and Waterlooville FC, confirmed Ferdinand had joined on “work experience” from Brighton & Hove Albion until the end of the season.

The statement continued: “Ferdinand, 18, came through the set-up at Brighton & Hove Albion where he now continues to refine his trade in their Under-21’s set-up. Lorenz links up with Shaun North’s side for the run-in as the push towards the end of the season continues! We welcome Lorenz to the Hawks and look forward to seeing him in action very soon.”

Havant and Waterlooville compete in the Southern League Premier Division South, in the seventh level of the football league.

The club are currently sixth, and will hope the introduction of Ferdinand can assist in their push towards the play-off places.

  • Manchester United midfielder makes return from injury

Manchester United have had a torrid time with injuries for a while now.

Whether it’s long or short term injuries, the club have just had rotten luck when it comes to players missing game time.

Ayden Heaven got injured just before the international break when United faced Leicester City.

Ironically, Heaven only got his opportunity due to injuries suffered by other centre-backs Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro.

The young defender, signed from Arsenal in the January transfer window, took his opportunity with both hands and showed that he’s ready for first team football.

Reports suggest that his injury isn’t as bad as first feared – providing Manchester United fans with some positive injury news for once.

And the good news has continued further.

Five Manchester United stars returned from injury to training this week and seem set to be available for the English Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

And now another Manchester United midfielder has made his return from injury suffered in October.

Manchester United under 21 midfielder Zach Baumann made his return to the pitch last night in the game against Leeds United under 21s.

Baumann only signed his first professional contract at Manchester United in September 2024, but suffered an injury within a month of that signing.

The 18 year old Ukrainian player returned to the bench ahead of the clash and made his way onto the pitch at around 60 minutes.

United’s under 21 side were losing 2-0 at the time, but turned the game around shortly after and made the final score 2-2.

But more importantly than the result, the Manchester United staff would have been pleased to see the youngster make his return to playing football.

Although not near the first team yet, a return from injury for Zach Baumann will only help aid his development further.

The young midfielder will be hoping to get a good run of games for the club and make up for lost time.

After 5 months on the sideline, Baumann will be keen to increase those at the club.

  • Priority Manchester United target has price tag cut by £30 million

Manchester United are desperate for a prolific striker to join the club in the summer after a poor showing from Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

The pair have failed to provide consistency in front of goal, with United’s results suffering as a result.

Currently sat in 13th place in the Premier League, Ruben Amorim’s side have been trying to adjust to his system, rather than Erik ten Hag’s who they were assembled under.

However, it’s clear that The Red Devils need a strong goal scorer to reliably convert their chances in the final third.

A whole host of targets have been scouted, with the top candidates for a summer arrival being Viktor Gyokeres, Jonathan David, Hugo Ekitike and Victor Osimhen.

Now, one of this list could be up for grabs for over £30 million less than his release clause.

Viktor Gyokeres available in cut-price deal

The Mirror has reported that Viktor Gyokeres has made a verbal agreement with current side Sporting CP that allows him to leave for £50 million instead of his £86.3 million release clause.

The Swedish striker has been in incredible form this season, grabbing 40 goals and 10 assists in 41 games.

As the striker found his form under Amorim, it’s understandable that United have been linked with the striker since Amorim’s arrival in November, with Gyokeres already knowing his play style.

However, this cut-price deal would still need United to spend £50 million, which could be questionable given their current financial struggles.

  • Manchester United top official looks set to join Newcastle United

Manchester United could be set to lose one of their top directors as Newcastle come knocking for a replacement for CEO Darren Eales.

Last year, the two Premier League clubs were linked in controversy as then Newcastle United Sporting Director Dan Ashworth made it known, albeit secretly, that he wanted to move to Old Trafford, holding talks with Omar Berrada.

After £2 million was paid by Manchester United to compensate Newcastle for losing their sporting director, Ashworth was appointed at Old Trafford, although his tenure didn’t last long.

Five month later and the inaugural sporting director was sacked, with Ashworth feeling side-lined from big decisions like Erik ten Hag’s successor.

Whilst Ashworth wanted Gareth Southgate, Sir Dave Brailsford and Omar Berrada wanted Ruben Amorim, ultimately going with the Portuguese manager.

Now, a high ranking member of staff is due to go the other way as United Chief Operating Officer Collette Roche is being considered for the Chief Executive role with The Magpies.

Newcastle United shortlist Collette Roche for Chief Executive Officer role

The Telegraph has reported Roche is a candidate to succeed Eales who is stepping down after being diagnosed with blood cancer last September.

Eales is sent to continue in the role until someone else is appointed, with former Arenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham also being considered.

However, this isn’t the first Premier League side to be after Roche, as the COO was considered for the Everton CEO role before Angus Kinnear was appointed with a start date of June.

Roche has been increasingly hands on with the club, especially after Ashworth’s departure, being a key figure in delivering the £50 million Carrington refurbishment and with the £2 billion new stadium project.

  • Hugo Ekitike transfer fee revealed

Manchester United’s search for a striker this summer has turned up a range of options for Ruben Amorim’s side, aiming to turn the club’s results around.

This season, Amorim has been reliant on goals from Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo as strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have been unreliable.

As such, United have shortlisted strikers like Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, Jonathan David and Hugo Ekitike to bring consistency to the final third.

All four have been clinical in front of goal this season, however United’s financial struggles might make it difficult for the club to make a massive signing in the summer.

It’s been recently reported that Gyokeres’ price tag has dropped from his release clause of £86.5 million to £50 million thanks to a gentleman’s agreement he has with the club allowing him to leave to the right club.

However, Ekitike’s seems to have gone the other way.

Eintracht Frankfurt to cash in on wide-spread Hugo Ekitike interest

Florian Plettenberg has reported that Eintracht Frankfurt are well aware of the wide-spread interest in Ekitike, with clubs like United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Juventus monitoring the situation closely.

As Such, the Bundesliga side are looking to cash in on the star who’s departure is almost guaranteed.

Despite a £46 million valuation on Transfermarkt, Frankfurt and asking for a £67 million for the 22-year-old.

This puts him as more expensive than Gyokeres who has been proven for several seasons both with Sporting CP and in England with Coventry City, albeit in a lower league.

If United are to try to meet Frankfurt’s valuation of Ekitike, some key sales will need to be finalised first, potentially allowing for other clubs to beat them to his signature.

  • Manchester United target Geovany Quenda alternative

Manchester United’s struggles on the flanks have been a glaring issue this season, leaving Ruben Amorim scrambling for solutions.

Amad Diallo’s injury setbacks have limited his impact, while Marcus Rashford and Antony were both loaned out in January after inconsistent performances.

With both wingers potentially set to leave permanently in the summer, United’s lack of attacking depth has become a growing concern.

Makeshift options have failed to provide the cutting edge needed, forcing the club to prioritize reinforcements ahead of next season.

The urgency to strengthen the squad has only intensified as United look to rebuild under new ownership.

With the summer transfer window approaching, the club is already making moves to address the issue.

One name that has emerged as a serious target is Roger Fernandes, the highly-rated winger from Braga.

The 19-year-old has been attracting strong interest from Premier League clubs, with United now emerging as a frontrunner in the race for his signature.

Reports from O Jogo suggest that Fernandes has long been on United’s radar, and despite a recent injury that temporarily sidelined him, their interest remains strong.

The club views him as a player with “extraordinary talent” and a ceiling comparable to other young stars who have made big moves from Portugal.

Ruben Amorim had been targeting a move for his former club Sporting’s star, but rising talent Geovany Quenda opted to join Chelsea instead.

With Quenda now out of the picture, United may still look to secure a promising player from the Portuguese market this summer with Fernandes seen as an alternative.

United are eager to avoid another missed opportunity after losing out on his compatriot, Renato Veiga, to Chelsea.

Braga, however, will not let their prized asset leave without a fight.

Club president Antonio Salvador has already received offers for the teenager, with Brighton, Fulham, and Chelsea testing the waters in January.

Braga reportedly set a €30 million asking price, which may deter some suitors, but United’s long-standing admiration for Roger Fernandes could push them to meet the valuation.

Roger Fernandes has been a key figure for Braga this season, featuring in 44 matches and proving to be a decisive presence in attack.

His return from injury in the final stretch of the campaign could be crucial in boosting his value even further.

With Manchester City, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Brentford also monitoring his progress, a summer bidding war could be on the horizon.

As United look to reshape their squad and solve their winger crisis, Fernandes could be a major piece in their long-term plans.

Whether they can fend off competition and land the rising star remains to be seen, but their interest is unlikely to fade anytime soon.

  • Kobbie Mainoo transfer hopes revealed

Manchester United’s prized young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is still yet to agree an extension to his current contract.

Whilst his contract is currently in place until 2027, meaning there’s no urgency to renew the contract just yet, the 19-year-old is keen to upgrade his terms to reflect his current role.

The central midfielder and his representatives are negotiating an increased wage to reflect his importance to Ruben Amorim and his routine call-ups to the England squad of late.

However, with United’s financial struggles, the club are keen to keep their wage bill down, leading to disagreements on what Mainoo’s new wage should be.

Another factor in the ongoing saga that is United’s financial troubles, is the fact that as an academy graduate, selling Mainoo would constitute as pure profit, and with a price tag of £70 million, this would be a massive step to support the club’s funds.

As such, concerns from fans that Mainoo could leave the club in the summer have been growing.

However, TBR Football has reported that Mainoo hopes this won’t be the case

CLICK HERE TO JOIN THE CENTRE DEVILS WHATSAPP GROUP CHAT NOW!

Kobbie Mainoo wants to stay at Old Trafford

Despite the ongoing negotiations, both United and Mainoo’s agents are confident that a new deal would be found, with the 19-year-old set against leaving his boyhood club.

Mainoo is yet to find his role under Amorim, with Erik ten Hag having used him in defensive midfield and then the Portuguese manager using him more in attack on occasion.

Not only has Mainoo been put in attacking roles just behind the striker, but on one occasion he was fielded ahead of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as a starting striker.

Unfortunately, a muscle injury has ruled the youngster out for several weeks, stopping his further development under Amorim.

However, the talented teenager is hoping to be back ready to take on Nottingham Forest next week as United fight their way back up the table.
