  • Ruben Amorim provides injury updates ahead of Manchester derby

As Manchester United prepares to host rivals Manchester City on Sunday, manager Ruben Amorim faces a crucial test with several key players sidelined.

The Red Devils have been struggling for form, currently sitting 13th in the Premier League, and a win against City is essential for Amorim to steady the ship.

United’s recent struggles have been exacerbated by a series of injuries, with Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, and Amad all unavailable.

However, there is a glimmer of hope with Kobbie Mainoo returning to training, although Amorim has made it clear he will not feature for a full 90 minutes.

On top of that, Matthijs De Ligt has sustained a fresh injury concern, complicating Amorim’s defensive options ahead of the derby.

“We want to win this game, we want to improve in the league table, and especially we want to win games,” Amorim said.

“We are going to have full focus on this game.”

United’s focus is clear – a victory is paramount to halt the slide and give the fans something to rally behind.

Amorim also mentioned Mason Mount’s fitness ahead of the game, with the midfielder having trained well enough to be in contention for a starting spot after his comeback from injury.

The clash with Manchester City comes at a time when the defending champions have also faced challenges, although they are still expected to present a tough opposition.

Despite their struggles, City’s impressive squad and world-class manager, Pep Guardiola, ensure that they will remain formidable opponents.

Amorim acknowledged the challenge, “I am more focused on our problems; I think we have bigger problems than Manchester City.

“They had problems in that run.

    “They have improved.

“They have maybe the best coach in the world.

    “They have top players.”

While Amorim is looking at City’s strengths, his main concern is on improving United’s own squad and performance.

“The focus must be on how to improve our team in every aspect,” he added.

Amorim emphasized that, no matter the current struggles, Manchester United must aim for higher standards.

He’s already looking ahead to the future, ensuring that the club will strengthen and improve next season.

With multiple injuries to key players and a challenging fixture ahead, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Ruben Amorim as he seeks to restore Manchester United’s fortunes against their fierce rivals.

  • Ruben Amorim delivers reality check for Manchester United

Manchester United are back in action this weekend as they welcome rivals Manchester City to Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim’s side will be desperate to respond following a string of underwhelming performances that have left United stuck in mid-table.

With just nine league wins this season, Amorim’s debut campaign has been filled with growing pains as he works to instil a new playing identity at one of the world’s biggest clubs.

Injuries to key players and a lack of consistency have hampered progress, but behind the scenes, United’s leadership have initiated a long-term vision.

Dubbed “Project 21,” the aim is to guide the club to its 21st league title and 14th Premier League title by the time United celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2028.

However, the man at the helm has delivered a frank assessment of the immediate future.

Ahead of Sunday’s Manchester Derby, Amorim admitted that anyone expecting United to lift the Premier League title next season is being unrealistic.

Speaking to the press, he said, “I’m not naive.

“I’m not saying we’re going to win the title next year—I’m not crazy.”

While he praised the ambition of United’s long-term plans, he reiterated that he couldn’t adopt a relaxed approach to his own targets.

“I don’t want to think we need a lot of years to be competitive.

“I cannot manage like that,” he added.

The 39-year-old Portuguese coach stressed that the standards he is demanding behind the scenes are already taking shape, though the process will take time.

“We’re suffering a lot to be a lot better next year, and that’s our goal,” he said.

Rather than settle for slow progress, Amorim confirmed his intention to bring in a few top-level players this summer and push the team forward immediately.

Drawing comparisons to the past, he noted that football has changed since Sir Alex Ferguson’s era, with modern pressure and media scrutiny creating a new set of challenges.

“But we are Manchester United,” Amorim concluded.

“No matter the pressure, we have to be there with the other big ones.”

Amorim’s candid admission serves as a stark reminder of the work Manchester United still need to do before they can dream of lifting the Premier League trophy again.

  • Fabrizio Romano provides Rayan Cherki transfer update

With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Manchester United are expected to be busy bolstering their squad ahead of next season.

The club’s focus will likely be on strengthening their attacking options, particularly in the number ten role, to suit Ruben Amorim’s playing style.

Numerous players are reportedly on United’s radar.

United will be looking for talents capable of making an immediate impact.

In other news, Lyon’s financial struggles have put many of their star players at risk of leaving the club.

A provisional relegation to Ligue 2 has put additional strain on the French side, and several top talents could be sold to help alleviate their financial woes.

Among those potentially up for grabs is 21-year-old attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki, who has been in sensational form this season.

The Frenchman has contributed eight goals and 17 assists across all competitions, helping Lyon to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Several top European clubs, including Manchester United, have been linked with the talented Rayan Cherki, with reports suggesting that the player could be available for a bargain price of just £25 million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Lyon’s financial issues have forced them into a situation where they may need to sell some of their prized assets, and Cherki could be one of the first out the door.

However, it’s not as simple as it seems, as the player has a release clause in his contract.

Romano confirmed that while there is a release clause, it isn’t straightforward.

“Lyon insist there are certain conditions to be met, so it’s not that simple,” he explained.

Nevertheless, Cherki’s immense talent could make him a potential bargain for clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

With both clubs seeking reinforcements in attack, Cherki’s creativity and flair would undoubtedly make him a valuable asset in any team.

As Manchester United continue to pursue forward-thinking reinforcements, Cherki’s addition could provide the creative spark needed to elevate the club’s attacking play.

Whether the club manages to secure his signature remains to be seen, but the possibility of landing a player of his calibre at such a price makes it an intriguing prospect.

The Athletic has reported that Premier League rivals Liverpool have appointed Andy O’Boyle as managing director of women’s team.

O’Boyle left United last year after being deputy football director at Old Trafford for two years, having supported in the set up of INEOS’ directors and squad that we see now.

O’Boyle played a key role in supporting Sir Dave Brailsford as he established a revised hierarchy at Old Trafford.

The former deputy football director was also heavily involved in the club’s recent summer transfer activities, which saw the acquisitions of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte.

Now, O’Boyle is set to re-join Liverpool having previously worked at Anfield before his time with United.

He originally started with Liverpool back in 2011, taking up the post of head of fitness elite development, before becoming a first-team fitness coach in October 2015.

  • David Ornstein reveals details of Paul Pogba to Manchester United

Manchester United have made it clear they are shifting direction under Ruben Amorim, with fresh ideas taking priority over nostalgic reunions.

The Red Devils continue to weigh their midfield options with the summer window approaching.

Christian Eriksen is expected to depart, opening up a slot for a creative playmaker in Amorim’s new-look squad.

Names like Morgan Gibbs-White have been floated internally, with his form at Nottingham Forest attracting increasing interest from top clubs.

While fans have pushed for headline-making moves, the club’s recruitment team is focused on building a side that reflects long-term ambition rather than short-term sentiment.

Amid a flurry of speculation, reports linking Paul Pogba with a shock return to Manchester United have officially been shut down.

The French international, who was banned from football for 18 months after testing positive for elevated testosterone levels in August 2023, recently became a free agent after leaving Juventus.

Despite encouragement from former United players such as Louis Saha, who felt Paul Pogba could “excite” fans if played alongside the likes of Amad, it appears the club isn’t entertaining a reunion.

Transfer expert David Ornstein responded to the growing speculation during a Q&A with The Athletic, where he was asked directly whether Pogba was “under consideration” at Old Trafford.

His response was blunt, “It is not on either party’s agenda. He continues to train ahead of joining a club this summer.”

Ornstein confirmed that while there is “plenty of interest” in Pogba, he is “not aware of a firm decision being taken” about the player’s future.

Pogba’s last stint at United ended in frustration, with inconsistent performances and injuries hampering his ability to make a lasting impact after his record-breaking return from Juventus in 2016.

Now at 32 and returning from a ban, Pogba’s future remains uncertain — but it won’t be at Manchester United.

The club is instead expected to pursue younger, more dynamic midfielders to suit Amorim’s pressing style.

  • Major update in Manchester United’s pursuit of Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United have been lining up potential strike targets for the summer as The Red Devils are desperate for consistency up front.

Manager Ruben Amorim has been reliant on Rasmus Hojlund as his first-choice striker, however with a goal drought of 21 consecutive games, concerns began being raised over if Hojlund should be the first-choice striker or if they could even sell him off this summer.

Thankfully Hojlund’s goalless run has come to an end, however there are still concerns about his consistency.

As such, United have developed a shortlist of truly impressive talents including Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, Jonathan David, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko.

However, The Athletic have now reported a shift on the shortlist with regards to Sesko.

Manchester United receive huge blow in pursuit of Benjamin Sesko

Since joining Leipzig in 2023 from RedBull Salzburg, Sesko has established himself as the club’s top striker, making 80 appearances so far with 36 goals and eight assists.

As such, the 21-year-old is highly sought after, with United joined by Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United and Chelsea in trying to sign him this summer.

That said, other European strikers like Gyokeres and Alexander Isak have leapfrogged the impressive youngster in several shortlists, making Sesko more of a back-up option for some clubs.

However, it’s now deemed that Old Trafford is an unrealistic destination for Sesko during the upcoming summer transfer window.

RB Leipzig are wanting £60 million for the striker as they secured a gentleman’s agreement for Slovenia international who signed a new contract until 2029 last summer.

As such, The Red Devils are unlikely to be able to compete with other clubs for the striker given their ongoing financial pressures.

  • Boca Juniors use former Manchester United stars to launch new kit

Argentine side Boca Juniors have just released their campaign for promoting their new third shirt for next season, opting to use three of their stars who all previously played for Manchester United.

The South American club have called on three of their current line up to promote the new alternate kit which is predominantly navy blue with gold stars dotted across the torso.

The Boca Juniors crest, Adidas logo and Betsson logo also stand out in gold on the dark blue shirt, with a gold triple stripe leading from the collar to the shoulder.

So, to stylishly unveil the shirt, tucked in to some light crisp blue jeans and cream chinos, Boca picked out the trio of Edinson Cavani, Anders Herrera and Marcos Rojo.

All three previous wore the red of Manchester United with Rojo and Cavani playing together between 2020 and 2021 at Old Trafford before Rojo joined Boca in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer.

Cavani remained at Old Trafford for a further season until the summer of 2022 when he joined Valencia for a season on a free transfer before reuniting with Rojo in Argentina in 2023.

Whilst Cavani never played with Herrera at Old Trafford, they did share the pitch for a season at PSG.

Herrera joined United in 2014 from Athletic Bilbao for £30 million, playing for The Red Devils for five years. When his contract ran out in 2019, the Spanish midfielder moved to PSG, joining Cavani for a year before he went the other way on a free transfer.

Herrera is the last of the trio to join Boca Juniors, having joined in this season’s winter transfer window, however, he’s generated enough of a buzz to get in on the campaign.

  • New Manchester United stadium to host World Cup

Over recent months, Manchester United have revealed plans to develop a whole new home ground for the men’s team.

The proposed development, designed by Norman Foster, is a 100,000 capacity stadium set to completely remodel Trafford Park, the stadium’s surrounding area.

It’s understood that the project has now been greenlit by the club, with a build time of five years expected, getting the stadium ready for the 2030/31 season.

As such, the ground will also be ready for the 2035 Women’s World Cup where it could be set to host some of the tournament’s fixtures.

Today it was confirmed by FIFA president Gianni Infantino that the UK’s bid to host the tournament in 2035 across the four-nations of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland was the sole bid, and therefore victorious.

The Telegraph and Argus has reported that Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham has gone so far as to say he believes the tournament could be extended to 48 teams, which is possible under FIFA’s bidding regulations, requiring 16 venues, but could allow for an even bigger impact.

Speaking about using United’s new stadium, Bullingham commented: “We’re going to have conversations with (United) and work out if they can be part of it or not.”

He continued: “We’ve got a number of different stadia being built in the country, potentially Man United, potentially Birmingham, and with a 10-year horizon you’ve got to work out exactly where you’ll be then.

“There will be lots of conversations to be had, understanding timescales for stadium builds, understanding what people want and knitting that together.”

  • Ruud van Nistelrooy involved in major row with player

Former Manchester United striker and interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has dropped one of his Leicester stars following a recent confrontation.

The Dutchman took over at the King Power Stadium in December 2024, only a month after losing his interim manager role at Old Trafford.

The United legend was brought back to the club in the summer as part of INEOS’ coaching staff overhaul to support then-manager Erik ten Hag.

However, when ten Hag was sacked in October, van Nistelrooy was promoted to interim manager for two weeks, where he led United undefeated, to then be replaced by Ruben Amorim and his Sporting CP coaches.

Unfortunately for the legendary striker, his second stint at Old Trafford only lasted four months, however, the Dutchman wasn’t short of management options after leaving United.

Ultimately van Nistelrooy ended up with The Foxes, with his job now in question as Leicester fight to avoid relegation currently sat in 19th place in the Premier League.

Now, The Telegraph has reported that van Nistelrooy has had a bust up with Foxes star Harry Winks, axing the midfielder from his squad.

Ruud van Nistelrooy and Harry Winks in heated row

The confrontation came over the international break as Winks declined the request to stay overnight one day a week at Leicester’s training ground.

Winks is one of three senior Leicester players who have a commute of over 90 miles to the Seagrave complex, with the former England international having private reasons for commuting each day from Hertfordshire.

However, when Winks declined the request to stay over at the training facility for one night, van Nistelrooy reacted angrily, perceiving the rejections as indiscipline, excluding the midfielder from the clash with Manchester City.

It’s not yet known if Winks will be back in the squad for Leicester’s Monday night fixture against Newcastle, with the row reportedly getting very heated.

  • Lorenzo Lucca price tag revealed

Manchester United are desperate to sign a new striker this summer, with Udinese star Lorenzo Lucca emerging as a new candidate.

United are considering in-form strikers like Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Jonathan David, however with Arsenal leading the pack for Gyokeres and Napoli wanting a bidding war for Osimhen, alternatives were needed.

As such, The Red Devils have turned to 6ft 7in Lucca who would be the Premier League’s tallest outfield star since Peter Crouch.

The Italian striker has registered 12 goals and two assists in 32 games for Udinese, and with his form, the Serie A club may struggle to retain him this summer, especially with his low price tag.

Udinese reveal price tag for Lorenzo Lucca

The Sun has reported that Udinese are only wanting £25 million for their star striker, making him a really affordable option for most clubs.

Having moved to Udinese from Pisa after his season long loan in 2023 was made permanent for £6.75 million, even the £25 million would make a tidy profit for the Italian club.

However, as Lucca is now proven in Italy with 18 goals and six assists in 66 Serie A games for Udinese, it’s no surprise that other Serie A sides are also vying for the 24-year-old’s services.

Juventus and AC Milan are reportedly in the race alongside United to sign Lucca, with the striker having only spent a year outside of Italy, with a season-long loan to Ajax where he predominately sat on the bench.

Throughout the season, Lucca only made 16 appearances with two goals and an assist, having only started one game.

As such it’s unknown how Lucca would feel about moving to England, however United have a track record of signing strikers from Italy with Rasmus Hojlund joining from Atalanta in 2022 and Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna last summer.
