  • Manchester United target Porto teenage sensation

Manchester United continue to expand their scouting reach across Europe with an increasing focus on elite youth talent.

The club’s recruitment department, now operating under a more streamlined and data-driven strategy since the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, has already begun shortlisting potential stars of the future.

With a significant rebuild expected in the summer, United are preparing to offload multiple senior players to create room for fresh faces who align with the long-term vision of the club.

Ruben Amorim’s influence, even this early into his tenure, is evident in United’s recent interest in dynamic and technically gifted youngsters from Portugal.

United scouts have been regularly attending matches in Portugal, keeping tabs on emerging talents who could grow into first-team roles over the next few years.

Now, a teenage sensation from the Primeira Liga has captured the club’s full attention.

Rodrigo Mora, the 17-year-old attacking midfielder lighting up the season for FC Porto, has reportedly landed on Manchester United’s radar.

Rodrigo Mora has played 16 league matches this season, notching up five goals and three assists, and also made five appearances in the Europa League earlier in the campaign.

Portuguese outlet O Jogo (via Sport Witness) reports that both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are circling the rising star, prompting Porto to make urgent moves to protect their prized asset.

Currently tied to a release clause of €45 million, Mora’s value could shoot up to €67.5 million if he hits a certain number of appearances before the season ends.

But Porto want to go even further.

The club is attempting to renegotiate his contract to increase his clause to between €80 million and €100 million to ward off interest from Europe’s elite.

Although United haven’t made a formal approach, Porto remain cautious and are reportedly determined not to take any chances with one of their brightest prospects.

The Red Devils could be facing a tough battle if they want to bring Mora to Old Trafford — one that might cost them big.

  • Manchester United to receive £8 million

Manchester United have been experiencing a challenging season, sitting 13th in the Premier League and struggling to secure a spot in Europe.

With a significant drop in revenue expected, the club is looking for ways to make up for lost funds.

One of their strategies is to play post-season friendlies in Asia to generate extra income.

These matches, scheduled for late May, will be held in Malaysia and Hong Kong.

Manchester United have confirmed that they are set to take on ASEAN All-Stars in Kuala Lumpur on May 28 and another match in Hong Kong on May 30, with an estimated £8 million expected to be raised, as reported by Chris Wheeler.

The decision follows a series of cost-cutting measures implemented by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who took a stake in the club last year.

These measures have been critical as Manchester United faces the possibility of breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, given their underwhelming performance this season.

Despite the recent struggles, the club remains committed to these financial efforts.

The news comes after a string of disappointing results, leaving the team with limited options to secure a European spot.

Their only real hope for international competition next season is through winning the Europa League, a challenge they are currently preparing for.

With the season winding down, the friendlies in Asia are seen as a necessary step for United to bolster their finances.

Some players may be less than thrilled with the travel and additional matches, especially considering the toll of a long and tiring season.

However, reports suggest that any dissatisfaction within the dressing room will be met with reminders of how vital these funds are to the club’s financial stability.

Manchester United’s situation highlights the growing trend of top clubs heading abroad for lucrative post-season friendlies to offset poor seasons and limited earnings.

These matches could also be an opportunity for United to engage with their Asian fanbase, a market that has become crucial for the club’s commercial success.

With global appeal in mind, these tours have become an essential part of the club’s strategy in managing finances, even amid disappointing results.

  • Manchester United make contact for £62.5m striker

Manchester United are making massive waves in trying to sign a reliable striker this summer.

For months The Red Devils have been linked with formidable strikers such as Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Jonathan David as a consistent goalscorer is vital at Old Trafford.

However, United have also been keeping tabs on two strikers much closer to home who have proved themselves in the Premier League, despite their team’s performances.

United have been monitoring Wolverhampton Wanderers’ star Matheus Cunha and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap.

Delap has quickly become United’s number one target with a price tag of £40 million and a high chance of transfer movement due to Ipswich’s seemingly imminent relegation.

However, Cunha could also be lured away with several top clubs all looking to the Brazilian.

Now, talkSPORT has reported that Cunha’s agent has already had contact with United and is flying to the UK to meet with all of the striker’s suitors.

Alongside United, Cunha’s agent will be meeting with Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Chelsea.

However, with the 25-year-old’s release clause standing at £62.5 million, United may struggle to find the funds to secure the signing, hence the focus on Liam Delap.

Matheus Cunha is reportedly interested in both Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, with both seemingly having booked their slot into next season’s Champions League, with the striker wanting a step up.

However, United could still rival them on this front with a victory in the Europa League final also booking them a slot in the top European tournament next season.

  • Manchester United fan arrested for slapping player after Manchester derby

This weekend saw Manchester United take on Manchester City at Old Trafford as the final time the pair would face off this season.

Unfortunately for fans, however, the Manchester Derby was relatively uneventful, ending in a goalless draw.

Bruno Fernandes tried his best to orchestrate some attacking play for the Red Devils however the lack of a reliable striker saw these attempts fall short.

On the other side of the pitch, Ruben Amorim’s defence held strong to deny The Citizens any chance to claim the victory.

Whilst the sides fought well, neither team managed to grab a goal, being the first time since 2020.

Interestingly, it’s also the first time in ten years that United didn’t field a Mancunian in their line-up to face City with Kobbie Mainoo out injured and Marcus Rashford on loan.

However, reports have now emerged condemning the behaviour of some of the home fans, with police action even taking place with one account.

The United fans have been condemned by the FA due to chants regarding Phil Foden’s mother, with Chris Wheeler commenting: “I understand the FA are aware of the chants about Phil Foden’s mother by Man Utd fans at Old Trafford yesterday and condemn them, but won’t take any action because they don’t breach regulations.”

Alongside this another fan has been arrested and charged for slapping Jack Grealish at the end of the match.

As Grealish was exiting the pitch, he was called over by one of the fans in the bottom of the Stretford End by the tunnel, before being assaulted which has caused a police investigation.

The Daily Mail has reported that a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Alfie Holt, 20, of Haven Drive, Droylsden, has been charged with assault. He will appear at Manchester Magistrates Court.

“This charge relates to an incident which took place at Old Trafford Football Club yesterday.”

Neither United nor City have made comment on the situation due to the live investigation taking place.

  • Manchester United join Real Madrid in race to sign Bundesliga centre-back

Manchester United are expected to recruit at least one new centre-back this summer.

With both Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans set to depart the club once their contracts expire, reinforcements are essential.

Ruben Amorim has made it clear that upgrades are needed to maximise his 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford.

Mathijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro have convinced sections of the fanbase so far.

However, both would benefit from an experienced, high-quality partner to complete the back three.

Amorim’s tactical setup places an enormous emphasis on composure, resilience, and concentration at the back.

Red Devils in race to sign dominant centre-back Piero Hincapie

Now, Manchester United have reportedly joined the growing race to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

That’s according to Spanish publication SPORT, who state that United have made contact with the player’s camp to explore a possible summer move.

Hincapie, 23, has impressed throughout Leverkusen’s unbeaten Bundesliga campaign and continues to attract major European interest.

The Ecuador international has previously been linked to both Real Madrid and Liverpool, with a summer move widely expected.

Real Madrid’s interest could be directly tied to the future of Xabi Alonso, with the Leverkusen boss tipped to replace Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu.

SPORT claim Hincapie has a release clause of €50 million (£42.7 million).

A fee which could tempt several suitors including United and Tottenham Hotspur.

United’s ability to make a move will depend on summer sales.

INEOS are said to be pushing for a record-breaking window of outgoing deals.

Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho are all available for permanent transfers.

While futures remain uncertain for Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

    Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite remains a long-time target.

However, his £70 million valuation could force United to consider more cost-effective alternatives.

Hincapie’s blend of technical quality and left-footed balance would certainly improve United’s ceiling.

  • Andre Onana hits back at Gary Neville criticism

Andre Onana has risked backlash from the Manchester United fanbase by insisting he will not change his style of play – even if it draws jeers at Old Trafford.

The goalkeeper was criticised during and after Sunday’s derby for slowing the game down too much, with Gary Neville taking aim at his approach.

Neville, on commentary for Sky Sports, called the 0-0 draw with Manchester City “disappointing” and “depressing”.

He highlighted Onana’s reluctance to release the ball quickly as a key frustration.

He accused him of going against the club’s identity.

“United’s goalkeeper rolling his foot on the ball and waiting for things to happen.

“That’s not it, that’s not what this club is, that’s not what we do here,” Neville said post-match.

“Liverpool don’t do that. You’ve got to be a top team with tempo in your play, rhythm in your play.

“Get the ball moving, shift it quickly.”

The Old Trafford crowd shared in that frustration during the match, with groans and boos heard when Onana slowed play.

However, the Cameroonian shot-stopper has now made it clear he stands by his decision-making and won’t be influenced by crowd reactions.

Andre Onana insists on slow tempo build-up

“To be honest, it doesn’t affect me because the decision I make is to help the team,” Onana said.

“Sometimes I will make the right decision, sometimes I will make the wrong decision.

“When I feel my players need to rest I have to take my time, when I feel we need to speed up the game I will do it.”

He added that managing game flow is a key part of his role, especially when under pressure against dominant opposition.

“But sometimes, especially in the second half with an opponent that has a lot of control, they have more possession than us.

“I have to let my guys breathe,” he explained.

“They need me to do that. If the team needs to speed up the game, I will do it. I try to make the best decision for the team.”

Onana has endured a turbulent time in England, with criticism intensifying over United’s decision to let David de Gea leave for free and sign him for £47 million.

Reports have even suggested Ruben Amorim is considering replacing the 29-year-old in the summer if a suitable target becomes available.

For now though, Onana’s focus is on winning the Europa League, with United set to face Lyon in the quarter-final first leg on Thursday.

As well as chasing a trophy, winning the competition remains United’s best hope of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

  • Paul Scholes slams unforgivable Manchester United duo after Derby

A lack of cutting edge in attack proved to be Manchester United’s undoing again as their derby clash with Manchester City ended in frustrating stalemate.

The performance marked a step up from the dismal Nottingham Forest defeat, with United at least matching City in effort and shape.

Still, Ruben Amorim will know a goalless draw is no real progress if his side cannot find a consistent route to goal.

Despite moments of encouragement and a few chances created, only Bruno Fernandes posed any real threat throughout the 90 minutes.

As frustrations grow, former United midfielder Paul Scholes delivered a damning verdict on two players who he believes could have made a difference.

Paul Scholes slams Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho

Speaking after the game, Scholes hit out at Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

Two players still contracted to United, but no longer part of the matchday squad.

He accused them of giving up on the team when they were most needed, describing their attitude as “unforgivable”.

Scholes voiced his frustrations, saying: “They’ve thrown the towel in.

“That’s unforgivable. They’re sulky, I didn’t like them [sort of players] when I was playing.

“When a new manager comes in, come on, the football club pays you so much money and you throw the towel in?”

He added that Rashford is now “running around for Aston Villa” but is still not performing at the level required.

Scholes believes that both players could have been decisive in games like the derby, if only their application matched their quality.

His overall sentiment is one that echoes what Ruben Amorim has likely felt since walking through the doors at Carrington.

Amorim needs committed players who want to represent Manchester United.

Rather than individuals who only perform when the mood suits them.

Although the talent of the two players is not in doubt, their mindset and professionalism have consistently let the club down.

Scholes is ultimately imagining a version of those players that never really existed at Old Trafford – happy, hungry and thriving.

Jadon Sancho’s future at Chelsea remains an interesting one, with Fabrizio Romano earlier sharing an update.

Marcus Rashford meanwhile, has had a sparkling turnaround at Aston Villa.

  • Manchester United’s no.1 summer target revealed

With the summer transfer window only a few months away and the Premier League into its final handful of matches, clubs are looking at who to target to reinforce the squads over the summer.

Manchester United are no different, looking at potential replacements for players like Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof who’s contracts are ending.

Also on the departure list are Antony, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho who the club are looking to sell after successful loan spells for the first two, with Chelsea having an obligatory by clause for Sancho.

However, their primary area of recruitment is to find a reliable striker.

Unfortunately for Ruben Amorim and United fans, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are both lacking the composure and consistency in front of goal that a club like United needs.

As such, The Red Devils are turning to a proven Premier League goalscorer as their top target this summer.

The Daily Mail has reported that United are putting Liam Delap of Ipswich Town at the top of their shortlist this summer.

The striker arrived from Manchester City last season for £20 million and with a buy-back clause in build as well as a 20% sell on clause.

The buy-back for City matches his release clause of £40 million, which United are reportedly happy to trigger to force the sale.

However, they aren’t alone in their interest with Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle also looking to the 22-year-old.

Delap has scored 12 goals in 30 games for Ipswich, proving he has what it takes to compete in the Premier League, and with Ipswich set for relegation, he could well be open to a summer move.

  • Olympique Lyonnais suffer injury blow ahead of Europa League clash

As the Europa League quarter-finals approach, all eyes are on the highly anticipated clash between Manchester United and Lyon this Thursday.

United, under the leadership of Ruben Amorim, are gearing up for what promises to be a thrilling encounter as they travel to the Groupama Stadium in France.

United are coming off a string of solid performances in the competition, with their eyes firmly set on the trophy, having emerged as one of the favourites.

Lyon, on the other hand, will look to take advantage of their home crowd and secure a crucial first-leg advantage.

However, Lyon will be without one of their key players for the fixture.

Winger Ernest Nuamah, who has been a standout performer for the French club this season, will be sidelined for an extended period after suffering an ACL rupture in his left knee.

The Ghanaian international sustained the injury just five minutes into Lyon’s Ligue 1 match against Lille last Saturday, where the club triumphed 2-1.

Ernest Nuamah was forced to leave the pitch early, and despite initial concerns, Lyon’s medical staff confirmed the worst: a ruptured ACL that will keep him out for months.

The 21-year-old’s absence is a major blow for Lyon as they prepare for the crucial Europa League encounter against United.

In a statement, Lyon expressed their full support for Nuamah and assured fans that they would do everything possible to help him recover and return to action as soon as possible.

With the severity of the injury, it’s expected that Nuamah won’t be available for the first months of the 2025-2026 season.

Adding to Lyon’s challenges, winger Malick Fofana is also set to miss the first leg of the quarter-final due to injury.

Despite these setbacks, Lyon will still look to put up a strong fight against a Manchester United side eager to make their mark in Europe under Amorim’s guidance.

The first leg in France will be a crucial test for both teams as they look to gain an edge ahead of the return fixture at Old Trafford.

  • “Crazy” reason for Jadon Sancho to remain with Manchester United

The future of Manchester United flop Jadon Sancho is somewhat uncertain despite Chelsea’s obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Although it’s expected that Chelsea will continue with their purchase of Sancho for £25 million, there has been significant speculation of them pulling out of the deal, with no confirmation of their decision just yet.

Across his loan spell at Stamford Bridge, the winger’s grabbed two goals and seven assists in 30 matches, failing to show the Sancho that excelled with Borussia Dortmund.

As such, reports have emerged suggesting that Chelsea would prefer to pull out of the deal, triggering the £5 million penalty for doing so, than signing the former England international.

However, Fabrizio Romano has now weighed in on the issue, providing some clarity to the situation.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano commented: “My information on recent stories is that even if Chelsea decide to send Jadon Sancho back to Old Trafford, the plan is to not continue together. The priority for Sancho is to stay at Chelsea.

“In case Chelsea decide the opposite, it would take something absolutely crazy, completely driven by Ruben Amorim to change things for him to stay because management already decided to give up on him one year ago.”

As such, it’s clear that unless Amorim sees him as vital to his team, Sancho’s seven-minute appearance in the Community Shield, coming on for Marcus Rashford before the penalty shoot-out, was the last time he’d play for The Red Devils.
