  • Corruption will only cease in Nigeria if and only if the Presidential and National Assembly seat is made valueless

I’ve been composing a post like this for so long now, but thanks to an anonymous that made it comes faster and better. I could only edit a bit cos most of the lines point towards the same direction. Which then is why is the Presidential, Senator and House of Representative seat in Nigeria full of value (money) rather than service?

The only good President Nigeria will have is the one that’ll make the aforementioned seats valueless.

    Let’s be real.

I wish to start by adding the benefit of my time as a student and then resident in the UK. Living in Abuja now. The first thing that I discovered about UK-born, white, English undergraduates was that all of them did holiday or weekend job to support themselves – including the children of millionaires amongst them. It is the norm over there – regardless of how wealthy their parents are. And I soon discovered that virtually all other foreign students did the same – except status – conscious Nigerians.

I also watched Richard Branson (owner of Virgin Airline) speaking on the Biography Channel. To my amazement, he said that his young children travel in the economy class – even when the parents (he and his wife) are in upper class. Richard Branson is a billionaire in Pound sterling. A quick survey would show you that only children from Nigeria fly business or upper class to commence their studies in the UK. No other foreign students do this. There is no aircraft attached to the office of the Prime Minister in the UK. He travels on BA. And the same goes for the Royals. The Queen does not have an aircraft for her exclusive use.

These practices simply become the culture which the next generation carries forward. Have you seen the car that Kate Middleton (the wife of Prince William) drives? VW Golf or something close to it. But there’s one core difference between them and us (generally speaking), they (even the billionaires among them) work for their money, most of us steal ours

If we want our children to bring about the desired change we have been praying for on behalf of our dear country, then please, please let’s begin now and teach them to work hard so they can stand alone and most importantly be content and not having to “steal” which seems to be the norm these days.

We have Nigerian Children who have never worked for 5 minutes in their lives insisting on flying “only” first or business class and using the latest cars fully paid for by their “loving “ parents.

I often get calls from anxious parents”my son graduated 2 years ago and is still looking for a job, can you please assist!”

“Oh really! So where exactly is “THIS CHILD?” is my usual question. “Why are you the one making this call dad/mum?

I am yet to get a satisfactory answer, but between you and me, chances are that the big boy is cruising around Abuja with a babe dresses to the nines, in his dad’s spanking new SUV with enough “pocket money” to put your salary to shame. It is not at all strange to hear a 28 year old who has NEVER worked for a day in his or her life in Nigeria but “earns” a six figure “salary” from parents for doing absolutely nothing

I see them in my office once in a while, 26 years old with absolutely no skill to sell apart from a shiny CV, written by his dad’s secretary in the office. Of course, he has a driver at his beck and call and he is driven to the job interview. We have a fairly decent conversation and we get to the inevitable question- so, what salary are you looking to earn? Answer comes straight out – N250,000.00. I ask if that is per month or per annum.

“Of course, it is per month”

“Oh, why do you think you should be earning that much on your first job?”

“Well, because my current pocket money is N200,000.00 and I feel any employer should be able to pay me more than my parents.”

No wonder corruption continues to thrive. We have a society of young people who have been brought up to expect something for nothing, as if it were a birthright. Even though the examples I have given above are from parents of considerable affluence, similar patterns can be observed from Abeokuta to Adamawa.

Wake up mum! Wake up dad! This syndrome – “my children will not suffer what I suffered is destroying your tomorrow. You are practically loving your child to death.

Henry Ford said “hard work does not kill.” We are getting everything wrong in Nigeria now, including family setting. It is time to prepare your children for tomorrow, the way the world is going, only those that are rugged, hard working and smart working that will survive.

  • Rerun elections 100 times in Benue South, Mark will always win – PDP tells Onjeh

The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has debunked the claims raised by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Daniel Onjeh, that last Saturday’s election rerun in Benue-South senatorial district was rigged in favour of its candidate, David Mark.

The candidate of the APC had alleged that the election was marred by violence and rigging.

Announcing the results on Sunday morning, the Returning Officer, Prof. Ishaku Eneji, declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the election, Mr. David Mark, the winner with 84,192 votes against Onjeh’s 71,621.

Onjeh, while reacting called for another rerun, alleging that the election was not free and fair.

However, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Benue State, Mr. Godwin Ayihe, while reacting to the claim said since the Independent National Electoral Commission could not have brought more election materials than the number of registered voters, Onjeh’s allegation of over-voting was baseless.

Ayihe said Onjeh was crying foul because he could not reconcile himself with the fact that the people of the state had rejected him.

The PDP spokesperson asked Onjeh to accept defeat in good faith.

  • MASSOB Leader – People Of Ogoja, Ugep And Ikom Are More Biafra Than Ndigbo

As at last year, a factional Leader of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign States of Biafra, MASSOB, Solomon Chukwu, has said that the people of the Niger Delta area and the former Eastern region are part of Biafra, and remains committed to actualize an independent state of their own.

In a statement credited to Chukwu by several national dailies, he was quoted to have dismissed reports that the people of South South states like Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa and Cross River, are not Biafrans, adding that the former Eastern region has refused to be deceived by what he described as federal government’s divide and rule policy.

According to him,” Anybody who says that Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa and Cross River states are not part of Biafra is deceiving himself. These are Biafran territories. Biafra encompasses all the states of the former Eastern region, including Anioma clan in Delta state.

“It has been part of the Federal government’s divide and rule policy to tell the World that only Ndigbo want Biafra; but this is false. Do you remember Ojukwu’s second in command, Philip Effiong? Was he not from Akwa Ibom? When he was here, can anybody doubt his commitment to the actualization of Biafra?

“If you see the kind of support from the local people of Ugep, Ikom, Ogoja and adjoining areas when we held our meeting there last week at Ugep, you will be shocked. Over 2,000 people registered as MASSOB members at that meeting. In fact, from what we saw at the meeting, the people of Ogoja, Ugep and Ikom are more Biafra than even Ndigbo.”

He insisted that part of the marginalization of the former Eastern region in Nigeria is the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, despite successive court orders, granting him bail and urged the federal government to release him.

“Nnamdi Kanu is from Eastern Nigeria; this is why he is being held despite court order. His detention is part of the larger plot to continue to marginalize our people and frustrate Biafra, but we can never be deterred. Biafra is the answer,” the MASSOB leader said.

Chukwu, who commended MASSOB’s Regional Administrator for Ogoja, Rex Egberebi, for the massive mobilization of members in Ogoja, urged them to insist on the group’s non violent approach to the struggle, stressing that Biafra would soon be achieved.

  • Gov. Ben Ayade Signs Investment Development Agreements With European Investors (Photos)

In a bid to build the state Infrastructure Company, INFRACROSS, into a world-class company that can compete globally, the Cross River State Government has concluded several investment development agreements with some key investors in Europe.

The agreements were reached during Governor Ben Ayade’s recent visits to some manufacturing facilities owned by the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in Europe.

The agreements are expected to engender a sustainable business relationship between INFRACROSS and the OEMs.

In a related development, Governor Ayade, also signed a power generation agreement with Jampur Power of United Arab Emirate (UAE).

The deal which was signed in Zurich, Switzerland, mandates Jampur power to build a 20 megawatt power plant to generate electricity for the state.

It would be recalled that the governor, had while outlining his area of focus for 2016, listed improvement of electricity supply to Calabar, the state capital, among his 14-point agenda for the year.
