  • Senate Leaders withdraws anti social-media bill

The Nigerian Senate has withdrawn an anti social-media bill sponsored by Bala Ibn Na’ Allah which was aimed at putting certain restrictions on users using social media platforms, Sun News Online reports.

Political commentators have criticised the bill, calling it an infringement on the freedom of expression.

The withdrawal of the bill came after a report by the upper chamber’s Committee on Human Rights and Legal Matters submitted by David Omar earlier today.

The report stated that the bill was unlawful as it infringed upon the people of Nigeria’s basic human rights.

Similar instances have taken place across the world in places such as Egypt and North Korea and China, where social media platforms such as Facebook are heavily monitored and restricted.

Petitioners also claimed that social media was an important tool in fighting corruption in Nigeria.

  • Johnathan subsidised fuel at N141, they said he’s corrupt, but Buhari subsidizes fuel at N145, they said he’s a genius – Messy Nation

I think it’s high time this country split apart, North/West and South/East. It’ll be better off than this calamity be falling us already. We see the truth but try to coined out something different from it. It’s a wacky nation.

A political activities, Emmanuel Idris wrote this pointing out facts that even the economic guru couldn’t consider. But, it’s actually the fact as the fact remains.

    He wrote:

The hypocrisy in this nation is just so alarming. Jonathan removed the fuel subsidy, and the fuel price went up to #141 . The opposition occupied the streets, labour and TUC locked down everywhere, Wole Soyinka Shamelessly came out to disgrace himself in the illusion of protesting, Senator Dino Melaye, El Rufai, and even Mrs. Ganiyat Fawehinmi who didnt understand what her late husband stood for, joined them in the protest.

It will be recalled that nigeria lost millions to the vandalism that was made during the subsidy protest. Pdp members structures were destroyed. (IBB’s office in lagos inclusive)

Today, Buhari has removed the fuel subsidy, here we are experiencing calmness, nobody is destroying properties even when his own(145) took the fuel price 4 naira higher than jonathan’s 141 in 2012.

Please, where is Tam David West? Where is the “petroleum expert” who said Buhari was going to make the pump price forty(40) naira?

Set of stupid, brainless, idiotic, myopic, irritating, mendacious hypocrites.

    Rubbish!

Please, sit back, and see the inflation we will experience, while we are still battling with inflation the dollar rise has put us in.

  • Ex-Gov Akpabio tightens control over Akwa-Ibom PDP, names brother party deputy Chairman

Ibanga Akpabio, the younger brother to former Akwa Ibom governor, Godswill Akpabio, has just ended his eight-year tenure as the secretary of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom.

The state congress of the party was held today, Tuesday, in Uyo, to elect new officers.

But Mr. Akpabio, the former secretary, won’t be leaving the party exco just yet; he has been elevated to the position of the party’s deputy state chairman, courtesy of the influence of the older Akpabio, the Senate Minority Leader.

A reclusive University of Nigeria law graduate, the new deputy state chairman of PDP is perhaps the longest serving party official in the history of PDP in Akwa Ibom.

His elevation confirmed that Mr. Akpabio, the senator, almost one year after handing over power to his successor, Udom Emmanuel, remained in firm control of the party structure in the state.

More than 70 per cent of the commissioners and other aides working for Governor Emmanuel are known allies and loyalists of Mr. Akpabio.

At the just concluded congress, Paul Ekpo, an ardent loyalist of the senator was re-elected as the state chairman of the party.

Not that the people really expected anything different, since no one contested against Mr. Ekpo, and several others elected officials, and more so, the names of the new officials were already being shared around on the social media, even before their election began.

Mr. Ekpo had previously served as a commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs under the former governor, before he became the PDP chairman.

“We have been able to manage and sustain a very stable party in the last four years,” Mr. Ekpo said, before a large crowd of party delegates at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Harrison Ekpo, Akpadiagha Ebitu, Joyce Udoh, and Ini Ememobong were also elected into the party’s exco as secretary, treasurer, financial secretary, and publicity secretary respectively.

Other elected officers include Saturday Akpan, organizing secretary; Ufot Nkangude, auditor; Goddy Umoh, legal adviser; Meme Akpabio, woman leader; and Enobong Harry, youth leader.

  • You’re wealthy, your family lives large – UK Mail Online mocks Buhari’s anti-corruption stand

A British newspaper, Mail Online, on Sunday questioned President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption credentials ahead of his arrival in London for a world anti-corruption summit to be hosted by UK’s prime minister, David Cameron.

The paper said “self-proclaimed ‘People’s President’”, Buhari, may be waging a war against corruption his critics have described as a witch hunt.

It wrote that Buhari sends his daughter to a £26,000-a-year English school and that in April, the opposition PDP party unearthed a ticket stub showing Hanan, 16, had flown first-class from London to Nigeria, despite her father’s ban on officials using premium travel.

The report added added Buhari had spent £150,000 on educating his daughter Zahra, a Surrey University student.

The paper also questioned Buhari’s failure to give a full account of his worth, and pointed out his partial admission of more than £1million in the bank, five houses and two plots of land.
