  • See why Gov Ayade is building a Canadian International School in Calabar

Speaking on how to rebrand the educational system in Nigeria, Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Mr. Goddy Ettah says the recent partnership entered into by the state with the Canadian government is aimed at raising the standard of education in the state.

Speaking on what would be the benefit of the partnership, Etta, who accompanied Governor Ben Ayade to the Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) signing ceremony in Ottawa, Canada, said the governor intends to raise the standard of education in the state to a level that it would attrack students from across the country.

“The essence of the trip is to partner the Canadian Bureau for International Education to establish a Canadian International School, comprising primary, secondary and tertiary institution in the state.”

Specifically, Etta said: ‘’Our intention is to bring the highest standard of education that Canada is known for to Cross River State such that the state will become a hub for standardized educational training. The governor’s presence attracted all the stakeholders in education in Canada who rallied round him by demonstrating their willingness to partner the state in actualizing the dream of setting up a world class institution in Cross River”.

According to him, the state decided to partner Canada because the country is rated the best in terms of education in the world and the governor is in a hurry to replicate such a high standard form of education in the state for the benefit of its citizenry and the country at large.

“This MoU is to enable the takeoff of a Canadian International school to provide learning facilities for primary, secondary and a tertiary institution in Calabar. By July 16, 2016, the technical team including architects from Canada will be in the state to give muscle to the MoU that has been signed as they will commence the need assessment process for a suitable site for the school.”

The commissioner who called on well-meaning Cross Riverians to rally round Governor Ayade because he has good intentions for the state added that “the trip was a step in the right direction and I am convinced that this will boost the economy of the state in addition to changing the educational status of the state and country at large. When established, it is expected that it will attract people from all across the country and even beyond because it is going to be first class.”

  • Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan pledges his loyalty to Nigerians and asked other leaders to do same

Former Nigerian president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan dropped a quote that proves truly valuable if we’re to view it in all retrospect.

Jonathan was speaking about being loyal as a leader. In normal cases, a leader is supposed to be a servant and not be served, isn’t it?

    Goodluck statement reads;

I was loyal to my leader, the late great President Umaru Yar’adua. I am loyal to Nigeria, I don’t claim to represent North, South or a Committee-I represent Nigeria. I am loyal to Nigeria’s economy, I don’t have accounts or property abroad, ALL my children live and school in Nigeria. I am loyal to my wife and friends. Can those who accuse me say the same?

Come to think of it, don’t you think he have a point? For we’ve not seen loyalty in as many as our leaders?

  • Read Ex-president Jonathan’s quote of promoting peace and prosperity in Nigeria

The hero of democracy as most people do call him and the UN Ambassador for Peace wrote a piece of writeup we couldn’t ignore but shares. He statement can be found on the above image or below…

“Some may think it is ironic that perhaps my proudest achievement was not winning the 2015 Presidential Election.

“By being the first elected Nigerian leader to willingly hand over power via the ballot box, to the opposition party, without contesting the election outcome, I proved to the ordinary man or woman in the country that I was his or her equal”.

  • Photos: President Buhari breaks Ramadan fast with Nigeria’s top men (why not with the poor?)

Nigerian leaders are people that always toy with the emotions of her citizens.

After all the promises during President Buhari’s pre-election campaigns, today, we’re seeing the opposite side. He said he’s with and for the poor and ordinary Nigerians, but today he can’t even celebrate the Holly period with them, instead with people that doesn’t know how it feels be a Nigerian.

Muhammadu Buhari posted these photos on his Twitter verified account and tagged it:

Tonight I broke the Ramadan fast with Nigeria’s business leaders, partners in growing the economy & creating jobs.

But does it showed the love he professed to Nigerians before they voted him? Please leave your comments below, thanks and best regards.

President Buhari said Nigeria has enjoyed remarkable goodwill, support and understanding under the capable leadership of the outgoing Prime Minister over the years.

The President said Cameron’s resignation in response to the outcome of a referendum that supported Britain to leave the European Union “was a demonstration of courage by a democratic leader who respects the will of the people, even if he didn’t agree with their decision.”

President Buhari noted that by ‘‘putting the will of the people before his political future, the Prime Minister proved himself to be a selfless leader with respect for democracy and voter sovereignty.’’

The President expressed hope that Nigeria looks forward to greater cooperation and consolidation of shared interests with Britain, despite the outcome of the referendum.

  • A piece of write-up from Sen Ben Bruce after EFCC allegations scandals

I appreciate the anti-corruption war, but I wish our media could also carry headlines of economic progress instead of incessant arrests by DSS/EFCC. We are so fixated on the anticorruption war that we are not noticing the steep decline in our economy.

In one day, Aliko Dangote lost $3.7 billion according to Bloomberg. The only business booming in Nigeria today is the business of arresting and detaining. I would not mind if we are arresting economic decline!
President Obasanjo fought corruption, but he also grew the economy. And he did this with oil at $15 per barrel (today it is $48). Low oil price is no excuse.

  • FG sacks striking doctors in all Federal Government owned Tertiary Health Institutions

The federal government on Tuesday sacked striking resident doctors in all federal government owned tertiary health institutions

Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole has directed the Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) and Medical Director (MDs) of these institutions to fill the vacancies created by doctors who have “abandoned” their training programme.

Resident doctors in government hospitals embarked on a nationwide strike on Monday.

According to Boade Akinola, spokesperson of the ministry, the directive was contained in a circular signed by Amina Shamaki, permanent secretary, federal ministry of health,

    The circular read as follows:

“It has come to the notice of the Management of the Ministry that some Resident Doctors in your establishment have voluntarily withdrawn from the Residency Training Program by refusing to report for training without authorization. Public Service Rule, PSR 030402 (e) is relevant.

“This is in spite of the ongoing negotiations on their demands put forward by the representatives of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) under the auspices of the Nigerian Medical Association.

“In view of this development, you are hereby directed to replace all the Doctors that have withdrawn their services, with others from the pool of applicants for the training programs in the various disciplines in order not to create ominous gap in training with attendant disruption of health care delivery in your facility.

“Meanwhile, the ministry is working with the panel on the review of the Residency Training Program in Nigeria, led by Professor Wole Atoyebi, the Registrar of the National Postgraduate Medical College, to fast-track the development of a comprehensive blueprint for postgraduate training of doctors in the country.

    “Please, ensure immediate compliance.”

  • Former Minister on the run over N650m campaign money

Hahaha… Nemesis is beginning to catch some people as they are on Olympic marathons.

A former Minister of State Federal Capital Territory, Jumoke Akinjide is allegedly on the run, Sahara Reporters reports.

Akinjide has refused to honour the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to answer questions on the N650 million campaign fund released by former President Goodluck Jonathan to Oyo State in the run-up to the 2015 general elections.

Also, News24 reported that, the money was routed through a new generation commercial bank for the purpose of ‘facilitating’ the re-election of Jonathan.

Akinjide alongside two others allegedly converted the money to their personal use.

The two others are the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Yinka Taiwo and Senator Ayo Ademola Adeseun.

The EFCC has already obtained an interim order from the Lagos State Magistrate Court, Ikeja District, to remand Taiwo in its custody for the next 30 days.
