  • 4 Important Things To Do Differently During Recession

Since the beginning of the world,Recession is a regular occurrence. Time of plenty and time of farming. It’s just normal for recession to happen. A lot of things to do differently during recession and I will share 4 with you.

    1) Cut your expenditure by half or more. This is the time to reduce spending, particularly on things that are not asset. Anything that takes money from you is a liability, cut your spending on them. You have 6 Cars for examples, sell 3 now!

    2) Switch! If you have lost your job or business or things are shaky, this is the time to consider other careers or Product/Services that are not affected by recession and switch.

    3) Increase your asset investment by over 100% this is the time to buy land,as they will be cheaper. Buy stocks if you understand or have competent broker. Cofounding a business by putting your money down. Real assets can be gotten for half the price due to recession, cash crunch has its own advantage to smart investors.

    4) Cut your outflow and increase your inflow. This is the time as a company to get your customers to pay you faster and slow the pace of paying debt. Why? If you rush to pay debt and your customers are slow in paying you, you will be out of business in a matter of weeks. You must survive this time. Part of what to do is reduce your staff or pay them base on sales, Raise affiliates.

  • Photos From Calabar Youth Massive Clean Up Exercise

Yesterday, youth across the city of Calabar gathered around the 11-11 Junction to conduct a voluntary Community Service which amass to the cleaning up of the streets of Calabar. And it was fun as many people turned up to show the love they have for their town, to bring back the image of clean and Green Cross River State.

Community Service is when you work for free to help benefit the public or your community. Usually, people who choose to do community service do so as volunteers, meaning that they choose to help out because they want to do so. Community service can have a lot of positive effects on volunteers, such as helping them to develop skills, making contacts, and allowing them to improve the quality of life of others and impacting community positively.

It is high time we took responsibility for our environment now that cleanliness, climate change, ozone layer depletion and global warming has become a pressing global concern. We can mobilize and volunteer to become ambassadors of a clean and green Cross River in our local community.

Government alone has never been able to meet the many needs of its people.
We can synergize to compliment government’s efforts by volunteering our time, skills and resources in preserving and promoting our divinely entrusted heritage without which we are ungrateful vagabonds.

Check out photos from the clean up exercise which was mainly at the Summit Hills roundabout, close to Waste Management Agency, Murtala Muhammed Highway, Calabar.

  • Must Read: What to do when you’re being bullied at work

For most of us the term bullying conjures up images of mean kids who terrorise the meek, the weak, the different and the lonely. This is perhaps because of what we witnessed or experienced when we were children. Or it could be because this is usually how film, television, literature and pop culture portray it.

Lamentably, bullying doesn’t always end with childhood. Bullies don’t suddenly grow up and miraculously turn into wonderful adults, and growing up won’t protect you from being bullied.

Adults can face bullying on many fronts. It can happen in relationships, friendships, work, and family. I even have friends who are bullied by their kids!

So how do you know if you’re being bullied at work?

Well, according to this public service organisation, and this Australian workers website, workplace bullying constitutes the following:

    • Offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting comments
    • Aggressive behaviour
    • Teasing and practical jokes
    • Pressuring someone to behave inappropriately
    • Unreasonable deadlines or targets
    • Unjust criticism

It can also take on more subtle forms like excluding you from activities, ignoring your opinions and contributions, and overloading you with unpleasant work.

So what do you do if you think your colleagues, your employees, or your boss is bullying you?

First, collect evidence. Emails are first prize, but when someone verbally abuses you, write it down. Ask witnesses if they saw what happened and get their version of events too.

Second, tell someone. You can talk to your direct manager (unless she is the problem), your HR representative, a union representative or your colleagues. As with schoolyard bullies, speaking out is the best way to stop this behaviour. Use the examples you have collected in step one.

You can even tell the person bullying you. Often, people don’t even realise that they’re being unfair. Clashing personalities might lie at the root of your problem, and speaking frankly could resolve the issue.

If your direct manager or HR representative refuses to act, you can take it to upper management or even at outside organization. But remember, the onus would be on you to prove that you are being bullied and that you have followed the proper reporting channels.

  • A piece of write-up from Sen Ben Bruce after EFCC allegations scandals

I appreciate the anti-corruption war, but I wish our media could also carry headlines of economic progress instead of incessant arrests by DSS/EFCC. We are so fixated on the anticorruption war that we are not noticing the steep decline in our economy.

In one day, Aliko Dangote lost $3.7 billion according to Bloomberg. The only business booming in Nigeria today is the business of arresting and detaining. I would not mind if we are arresting economic decline!
President Obasanjo fought corruption, but he also grew the economy. And he did this with oil at $15 per barrel (today it is $48). Low oil price is no excuse.

  • The Abandoned Ogoja Water Board In Pictures

Ever since the rehabilitation of Cross River Water Board Limited (CRWBL), Ogoja Station begins, the people haven’t had access to portable water for drinking and it’s more than a year now.

With the effect of water borne diseases affecting the neighbouring states like Ebonyi, there could be a threat that such plaque could cross over if the people find themselves in drinking river or stream water only. Since there’s inter-trade between the Ogoja people and the Ebonyi/Benue people, there’s a possibility of transfer of Cholera and other water borne diseases to people which will in turn post economic threat to the people and the state at large.

After series of complaints from the people of Ogoja, Calabar Reporters took bold steps to examined the Water Board Station/System in the area. We noticed that the work in the station had been abandoned and it’s more than 6-months now ever since works commences in the plant. And it’s so bad as the people keep suffering despite the leaders they elect.

Let’s take a look at the pictures from the abandoned Water Station below….

  • Report: 3 policemen have been allegedly reported to hypnotising commuters within Satellite town

Please if you stay around or within the Satellite Town axis especially the School Road area, do take this seriously.

A report reaching us states that 3 policemen of the same face and uniforms always trench the School Road part of the Satellite Town for the past years.

The affected citizen with a voice that has been molested already, said:

“For the past one year, it’s been always a set of 3 policemen hanging around satellite town by school road entrance. Why?

The anonymous continued: “If u get to satellite town like entering through school road, you’ll see 3 policemen. Next year, it’s still those men.”

“The policemen has been harrassing people, taxi, keke for bribe. The black one especially will cock his gun as u approach him. It’s not right.”

The report added that the policemen comes out from 7.30pm or 8pm and stay till about 10 or past 10. There’s also an albino amongst them. He positions by Sankara Hotels, while the other 2 positions along the road within that point.

The road user laments “The government or security should change/rotata them. Infact, that is the reason why the fare from Abang-Asang to satellite is N100 instead of N50 when it’s 8pm and beyond. The cab/keke man will tell you they have to settle the policemen.”

As we try to get to the police headquarters or authorities that matters concerning this issue, please, if you’re a user of that road do know your moves and try as soon as possible to avoid them. For we’ve seen many people faking police or army to loot people of their money and relevant belongings.

  • Road users plying the Calabar, Ikom-Ogoja federal highway are calling on the FG to fix Biase road

According a report from Channelstv, aggrieved road users says almost collapsed portion of the road has left them with bitter tales to tell.

The Biase road is the only entry and exit route from Calabar, the Cross River State to the northern part of the country through Benue State.

The road, which was constructed over 40 years ago, has continually served taxis, as well as trailers carrying petroleum products, building and food materials through the years.

The road in recent times has been in a deplorable state and on the verge of collapse. It continues to cause huge traffic jam, leaving thousands of trailers and taxis stranded for days.

Narrating their ordeal, aggrieved drivers blamed the incident on bad governance.

According to them, many lives have been lost due to accidents as a result of the failed portion.

They called on government to intervene on the matter.

  • How Will Cross River State Make Use Of FG’s 14.1 Billion Bail Out Funds?

We’ve seen states like our neighbouring Benue, Osun, Ekiti and many others collects the 2016 FG’s Bail Out Funds but still struggling as their economy is going down the mud as the days pass by. What will Cross River State Government do with her own Bail Out if it’s granted?

On Wednesday in Calabar, Cross River State Government said it will access the 14.1 billion Naira fund available to each state of the federation from the federal government in order to support developmental projects in the state.

Speaking to journalists, the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Asuquo Ekpenyong said: “We have now being granted access to the sum of 14.1 billion Naira which will help to smoothen and stabilize the expenses of state governments” Ekpenyong said, adding that, “The outcome of that meeting (with Finance Minister Adeosun) led to the emergency Exco to get approval for us as a state to access this funding from the Federal Government, and after these we shall be approaching the House of Assembly to get clearance and an issuance of a resolution so as to support our documentation.

“The terms of this budget support facility are, a tenure of ten years, a concessionary interest rate of 9 percent as well as a 1 year moratorium which will really help the state.
Our question is, how will this funds be managed to lift the state higher?
