  • Why Gov Ayade Social Media Attack Dogs Should Apologies To Me – Peter Inyali

When I posted article with this title “Cross River: A Safe Haven For Criminals Under Ayade” few weeks ago, I was almost crucified by wailers who think the public don’t deserve the right or are not rational enough to know the truth.

Governor Ben Ayade in a press briefing with Journalists today in Calabar, confirmed that “Cross River and indeed Calabar is now a safe haven for criminals chased out of other Niger Delta states by “Operation  Safe Delta” squad”.

In the briefing where the governor sacked over 200 traditional rulers from the state warring communities, he blamed the current security challenges in the state on the federal government for not extending the “Operation Safe Delta” to the state.

Now, to those who think they are more Cross Riverian than others and who attacked me, called me names, vilified me, to as a matter of necessity do same to the governor else they have moral obligation to publicly apologize to me.

  • Cross River; The Once Peaceful State By Richard Romanus

When in calabar do robbers begin to rob residents in broad day light? When do they become so bold and fearless to carry out their unholy activities on the ever busy road like Marian Road yet go unhurt?

This were some of the questions that came into my mind on hearing that some of the wine shops located almost directly opposite Mr Fans and Crunches, Value Mart Supermarket all in Marian were robbed recently.
With such an effrontery now exhibited by Armed Robbers today in Calabar and the Continuous Collapse of the security Machinery in the State, I won’t be surprised if residents begin to arm themselves with all manner of weapons in an apparent bid to protect themselves when confronted.

The situation is even worse in Calabar South where the ugly trend has forcefully brought Economic activities to a halt forcing some to relocate their businesses to somewhere safer.

Today in Calabar South, Residents of Atamunu, Ekpo Abasi, Uwanse, New Airport Road, Atakpa, Mount Zion and Orok Orok among others, live in perpetual fear. If it is not the fear of stray bullets or a case of mistaken identity as a result of the unending cult wars in the metropolis, it is the fear of hoodlums who will go as far as Killing their victims in order to dispossess them of their belongings.

It has become so bad that 8pm in the area can be mistaken for 11-12pm as not even a vehicular movement would be noticed in some of this areas when it is nightfall. How sad!

I agree in totality that, Governor Ben Ayade has done and is still doing his utmost best to justify the mandate freely given to him by Cross Riverians about one and a half years ago especially in the areas of regular and prompt payment of salaries to Civil Servants and some of the developmental projects he has so vigorously pursued, worthy of mention which is, the garment factory. But what is the joy in all of this successes, if a civil servant cannot peacefully enjoy his/her labour for fear of dispossession by men of the underworld or what is the essence of a garment factory when the state cannot guarantee the safety of potential investors?
Permit me, to give a few suggestions on how the government can reduce to the barest minimum the upsurge of crime in the state.

First, the governor must as a matter of urgency begin to summon a monthly security council meeting with Security Chiefs in the state. This was one of the major steps adopted by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State when the security situation in his state became worst. Such a meeting will afford the Governor to hear from the Security Chiefs, what their Strength and weaknesses are, while affording the council on the other hand an opportunity to take strategic decisions.

Secondly, without been told, it is very clear that one of the major problems faced by security Agencies is that of mobility. I say this as a result of my little investigations I have carried out. The security situation currently being faced in the state, is one that requires the acquisition of new security vans distributed to all the security Agencies in the state. This will enable them do their job better and will bring about quick response anytime a distress call is placed on them.

Thirdly, the resuscitation of Quick Intervention Service (QIS). It is on record that, the peace that was largely enjoyed in the state during the administration of the then Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, is traceable to the gallantry of the men and officers that made up Operation QIS. Reviving this security apparatus to man certain flash points in the area has become very necessary.

Fourthly, the State Security Adviser (SSA)must step up and be alive to his responsibilities. It is not enough to grant newspaper interviews to say ‘Calabar is Peaceful’ when every Tom, Dick and Harry knows it is not. He must deploy people to the field that will gather relevant information for him which will enable him do his job better.

The Governor’s aides especially those on social media, must desist from making payment of Civil Servants salaries by the government a public issue as that on its own, is a security breach since they hardly know who such information gets to.

Lastly, the Governor on his own, must lead the fight against cultism, Arm robbery and other security Vices from the front which entails taking decisive actions capable of sending fears even to his closest Aides. He must understand that if the current security situation persist, the tourism ministry where he overseas, will suffer greatly and the number one tourist destination the state prides itself will remain a sham.

The security of lives and properties remains the primary objectives of any government and that Governor Ben Ayade must provide and guarantee.

  • See the letter a Facebook user wrote to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State

Hahahahhaha….! Funny enough, Cross Riverians can’t hide their taught anymore as the state is degrading to their eyes each and every day.

A Facebook use posted this letter-like post on his time, it reads:

“Cross River State governor, Mr. Ben Ayade will travel abroad for 2 – 3 weeks and then return with a bag full of MoUs. Ever since his swearing-in, he has signed upto 37 if not 40 Memoranda of Understanding yet he is unable to understand that Calabar – Ikom road needs repairs, insecurity ought to be arrested, Calabar is dirty, ITM needs funding.

“Whoever is closer to him should help tell him that to get understanding is not by how many memoranda of understanding he signs, but by coming down street to see things live.
    #MoUGovernor #GetUnderstanding”.

Please oooo, just as the note says, if you’re closer to Governor Ayade, mbok help him and deliver it o.

  • Photo: Could this be why Sheriff want PDP dead? #FamilyMatters #APC

We don’t know how to evaluate it here, but we think some people have been looking back to their families.

“OK, just check this out, Mohammed Sheriff, son of Senator Modu Sheriff is married to his wife, Halima Buhari sheriff, daughter of Muhammadu Buhari.”

But come to think about, if the above sentence should be put into action, then you’ll agree that the problems facing PDP might have it originality from party Chairman, Sheriff.

  • West Africa should use single currency – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday said the introduction of single currency by West African states would promote economic integration and progress within the region.

Speaking when he hosted the President, Economic Community of West African States Commission, Marcel de Souza, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo said it was high time the organisation started using single currency.

He said: “We have decided that our unit of currency will be ‘eco’. Let us now start using eco. Let eco become our unit of currency.

“Single currency unit for ECOWAS states will bring about more development and growth among the states.”

The former president also said a deeper economic integration among members of the ECOWAS would gradually stem the tide of youths’ unemployment in the region.

Obasanjo stressed that economic integration of West African countries would guarantee development of the sub-region. He advocated a reform that would enable member countries to move beyond movement of goods and services. Obasanjo warned that the entire African continent would be sitting on a keg of gun powder as long as its leaders refused to pay adequate attention to youth unemployment.

The former president, however, declared that he would always make himself available for the ECOWAS services.

Obasanjo said: “I will continue to make myself available in the service of ECOWAS.
“Wherever you think my services will be needed, call upon me and I am ready.
“What is important is that these communities of 320 million people will be lifted up, these communities should be marching along and we should get rid of internal conflicts.”

Earlier, de-Souza said he was in Abeokuta to introduce himself to Obasanjo as the newly appointed President of the Commission and to also get his advice and orientation on matters concerning ECOWAS sub-region.

He emphasised that he was inclined to visit Obasanjo because the former Nigerian leader had always showed commitment to ECOWAS, adding that he came purposely to seek guidance.

He said: “Obasanjo is a special ECOWAS envoy to Guinea-Bissau. “We have come to also find out if Obasanjo has come out with any solution to the crisis in Guinea-Bissau.”

  • Gov Ayade to release list of compensated communities over Super-Highway in 2months

Replying to critics over the damage the Super-Highway will imposed on the affected, Cross River State Governor, Prof Ben Ayade said the state government is drafting a list of compensation to be published in two months time.

Speaking on the matter, the SSA to Governor on Public Affairs, Tony Undiandeye disclosed this while fielding questions in a radio program, “The Dialogue With Agba Jalingo” on Hit 95.9 FM when co guest, Odey Oyama said no compensation was paid nor the list of those affected compiled by the government.

But, Gov Ayade denied it, claiming that the State was in the process of re-collating data and will soon publish it.

Then the co-host, Jonathan Ugbal cut in with the question, When exactly should Cross Riverians be expecting this list?.

    SSA Tony replied that,

“I think that to be fair, you need to call a public hearing for those people who are affected, those people who were not captured in the first enumeration might have their complains taken in, so I think that within two months or so we would have published that list, a comprehensive list of what has been done”.

Alsl Tony replying to a follow up question whether the list will include the land allegedly grabbed by the government, described the issue as “contentious”, adding that,

“what was envisaged by government is that we want to create new cities… the State Government had thought that when that is done (acquiring 10 kilometers either way of the road), it will be held in trust for the communities so that when we go and develop facilities for them to move in, they will move into modern facilities, move into modern communities”.

The Adviser stressed that though government will continue to acquire land legitimately, the allegations on land grab were not true as “Government cannot just wake up and acquire land like that for no just purpose” and insisted it was for “developmental control” while Odey Oyama says a revocation order was published on the CHRONICLE Newspaper of January 22, 2016 and has become law.

  • Stigmatizing President Buhari By Sola Adeyeye

This rehash of the prominent positions held by Muslims in Nigeria is mischievous and quite unfortunate. It is the typical Nigerian game of chasing needless shadows rather than focusing on the arduous task of nation building.

Until recently, so-called Christians held commanding heights of the economic governance of our Republic. The Presidency, Headship of National Assembly, Secretary of Govt of the Federation, Head of Service, Ministry of Works, Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank, the NNPC, the Stock Exchange etc were headed by so-called Christians. Tragically, they reprobately superintended the profligate looting of our common patrimony. The lone voice of courageous warning belonged to a certified Muslim, Sanusi Lamido, who succeeded Soludo and was hounded for his courage to expose the cult of looters comprising so-called Christians.

Yes, the metastasis of economic ruins in Nigeria was gestated by these Christians. They reduced Pentecostalism to a reprobate pente-rascality whereby the Dukes and knights of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and the Christian Association of Nigeria became errand boys in the corridor of accursed political power. Their private jets were the conveyors of stolen money!

Tunde Fashola is a Muslim. He now heads what used to be three big ministries. Was he chosen because  of his religion? He was chosen because of his track record!

The dust will settle in Nigeria. Change will come despite predictable resistance from reactionary principalities and forces. Hackneyed references to issues that divide rather than unite us whether by Muslims or Christians, are age-long stumbling blocks to progress.

It really is a shame when well educated Nigerians, whether Muslim or Christian, wobble themselves in religious intolerance. Unfortunately, the intolerance is nursed by some imams and pastors mouthing poorly considered facts. Even if seemingly compelling, facts degenerate into half-truths when they are placed, as is often the case, outside of proper context.

The toxicity of half-truths rarely emanates from the profligacy of falsehood but rather from the subtle distortion of truth!  Blatant falsehood is intuitively obvious and as such easy to reject. By contrast, when truth is softly bent, it takes great discernment to perceive its toxicity.

The Constitution of Nigeria enshrines that every state must be represented in the Cabinet of the Federal Government. Even those of us who feel that this, by itself, creates a cabinet that is too unwieldy, must tolerate such a provision until our pluralistic, multi-ethnic and multi-religious republic evolves into organic nationhood. As such, whoever is the President of Nigeria must have a minimum of 36 Ministers.

Of the six ministers representing the Southwestern states, two (Fashola from Lagos and Shittu from Oyo) are Muslims while four are Christians (Adeosun from Ogun, Adewole from Osun, Fayemi from Ekiti and Daramola from Ondo). All the five ministers from the Southeastern states are Christians as are all six ministers from the states of the south-south. In other words, of the 17 ministers from southern Nigeria, 15 are Christians while 2 are Muslims.

In the North-Central, Audu Ogbe from Benue, Solomon Dalong from Plateau, James Ocholi (now deceased) from Kogi are Christians. The remaining three ministers from that zone are Muslims. Even if all the ministers from Northeastern and Northwestern states are Muslims, we are left with a Federal cabinet comprising 18 Christians and 18 Muslims! We have a devout Muslim as President and a no less devout Christian as Vice President. The current composition of the Federal Executive Council is one in which only liars will complain that Christians have been marginalized. When in the history of Nigeria has a traveling President transmitted power to the VICE PRESIDENT? That is what Buhari does each time he travels.

Now let us move to the legislature. Of the 10 Principal Officers of the Nigerian Senate, only three (Saraki, Ndume and Na’alla) are Muslims! The remainder (Ekeremadu, Adeyeye, Alimikhena, Akpabio, Aduda, Bwacha and Olujimi) are Christians! Adeyeye and Bwacha are lay preachers. The House of Representatives is headed by a Christian. With such a composition, the Nigerian Legislature is not a place where Christians can be said to be marginalized. In fact, few people realize that there are more Christians than Muslims in the Nigerian Senate.

Now let us go to the Judiciary. How many judges of the Supreme Court has Buhari appointed? The answer is Zero! Is it fair to blame him for appointments that predated his own election into office? The fear of God, the love of country and basic human decency dictate that we reject an amalgamation of intellectual sophistry with the dereliction of truth.

Unfortunately, it is quite easy for detractors to pick and choose their facts in a manner that allows malignant campaigns of calumny.

Professor Adeoye Adeniyi, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, was a deacon at Oritamefa Baptist Church Ibadan. He was the Chairman at my wedding. He was also our pediatrician. When he was leaving the University of Ibadan to head the College of Medicine at Ilorin in 1978/79, he handed Oluwatobi (our daughter) to a Moslem doctor in his Department. I asked him why he did not hand us to a Christian. Professor Adeniyi smiled and said, “you do not need a Baptist or for that matter a Christian doctor; you need a pediatrician who will respond even if you call after midnight!”

I enjoy air travels. Sometimes, the plane gets to very rough and bumpy weather. At such times, my concern is not whether the pilot can speak in tongue or prophesy! Rather, one hopes that the pilot knows what to do in a storm even if he were a Buddhist or Moslem. May God guide our Muslim President aright as we wade through the fierce.

  • Good Samaritan Donates to Widows in Cross River State through the Ministry of Women Affairs

The Founder and General Overseer of Christ For The World Mission, Rev. Dr. Nicholas Ezeh, has donated several bags of rice, cartons of tin tomatoes, bags of salt, cartons of magi cube, toiletries, detergents, vegetable oil and a cash sum of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000.00) to widows across the State, as part of the activities marking his 2016 birthday celebration.

Presenting the items to the widows at a ceremony held at the POWER Incubation Center of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Rev. Dr. Nicholas Eze disclosed that he chose to celebrate his birthday with widows, orphans and the less privileged in appreciation of God’s abundant blessings on him, his church-Christ for the World Mission, and his entire family. Rev.  Eze hinted that God has raised and given him enough grace and enablement to serve Him since he arrived the state on January 8th 1973 pointing out that whenever God blesses a person, he should share with the masses.

He told the beneficiaries that the items distributed to them were not to stop but reduce their burdens and admonished them to be prayerful to generate faith that will become channels of God’s blessings for them.

The cleric commended the Cross River State Government and the Ministry of Women Affairs for embarking on programmes that will alleviate the plight of widows in the state, maintaining that he has adopted the widows’ outreach as part of his birthday celebration. He stated that his effort is to complement what the government is doing. That it is like a custom to his family, noting that his mother was a widow and what she passed through as a widow challenged him to do what he is doing for widows. He was accompanied by both his biological and ministry family, especially his “Muchroom partners”.

Hon. (Mrs.) Stella Odey, Commissioner for Women Affairs while receiving the cash and items, commended Rev. Eze for his philanthropic gesture from personal earnings, noting that they will go a long way to cushion the challenges of the beneficiaries in this tortured economy. The Commissioner assured Rev. Dr. Nick Ezeh that Cross River State Governor, His Excellency, Senator (Professor) Ben Ayade is gender-friendly and widows-friendly. To demonstrate his passion, commitment and dedication towards issues of widowhood, His Excellency Governor Ben Ayade created a department of Widows under the Ministry of Women Affairs. He also made employment of widows in the garment factory a priority for widows to be self-reliant.

To complement this, the wife of the governor, Dr. Mrs. Linda Ayade has done so much for widows in the state, including promising sponsorship of widows into the Entrepreneurship Development Center (EDC). Recently she organized an event that brought widows together.

The Commissioner for women Affairs appreciated the benevolence of the philanthropic cleric, assuring him of a sustainable partnership even as she wished the Clergyman an awesome birthday.
The Widows sang a birthday song for Rev. Dr. Nick Eze with representatives from the three senatorial districts making a speech.

Dr. Nick Ezeh is an expert in church planting and currently oversees over 400 churches under Christ for the World mission Inc. He is also a mentor and spiritual father to the body of general overseers called the much-room partners. He has invested over 40years in ministry, seats on a number of boards in the educational sector and is the president and founder of world harvest Bible College and seminary. A member of the national executive council of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and the advisory council of the PFN Cross River state chapter. Dr. Nick is without argument a papa and a prophet in the land and a gift to the body of Christ and this generation. His message emphasizes the authority of the believer, the grace of God, living a life of faith and reigning in the earth with a kingdom of God consciousness.

Present at the event were: Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Stella Odey; P.A. to the Governor Widows’ Affairs, Mrs. Imelda Asikpo; a representative of the United Nations; Directors in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare; and the large entourage that accompanied Rev. Dr. Nick Ezeh drawn from his ministry and biological family.

  • In My Own Hands I Hold The Paddle Of My Destiny – Must Read Story By Patrick Amajama

In the last one year, I’ve wasted my time, energy and meagre resources (especially data) complaining on Twitter about the government that is not responsive to my needs. I complained about governments not creating jobs, not growing the economy, not building and maintaining infrastructure, injustice, vindictiveness etc. There’s no policy of government or lack of policy direction that I didn’t critique in the hope that government would respond to them to improve on my condition. But nothing changed. Even in this government of Change.

    Last week I questioned myself:
    1. Patrick Amajama, is it true that government has not created jobs? Were jobs not created for children of the highly placed in CBN, Immigration, EFCC, Foreign Affairs, and several other MDAs?
    2. Were children of politicians not being sent to the UK and US to attend the most costly schools abroad while you struggle to pay your two children’s school fees of less than N150,000?
    3. While you resort to groundnut and garden eggs for stew, are people not making and wasting tomato sauce?

I realised I was outsourcing my responsibility to an irresponsible entity, asking for what I may never get.

Beginning immediately, I have decided to take my destiny into my own hands.
I will henceforth create for myself the weather I choose to walk in, the environment I choose to live in. I’ll no longer waste efforts complaining about anything or anyone else. With hard work and dedication, I can surpass my imagination, God helping me.

I am resolved to extend a helping hand to myself first, then to anyone who chooses to be like me.

I have enrolled and signed up for Helping Hands International which cost me only N6,600 – a onetime investment with amazing return on investment.

My major aim is to, at the end of six months, be awarded this Hyundai SUV after completing stage three; I am in the process of completing stage one. I know that even before I attain my ultimate goal for the year, I would have earned over $5000 in cash, courtesy of Helping Hands International.

If you have found yourself in the same condition like Patrick Amajama, and would like to eke out a living for yourself, please contact me via WhatsApp on 08032944413.

Have a fruitful second half of the year.

  • Calabar drivers don’t obey road signs, just see where these divers are parking (Photos)

It’s always been a hassle for turn for cab drivers in the city of Calabar, but do they avoid the DOPT or Traffic Warden at all?

Yesterday, within IBB way by Stadium, there’s a commotion as if millions were throwing a tantrum, but it was just a queue of taxi drivers hassling for passengers at the place. Their parking space though, will still drag you back for a question tag.

How could they pack in such a place with numerous warning signs carrying “No Parking At All Times” on them?  Most of the signposts were of the military and paramilitary, but this dudes seems to be on a different level. No wonder why the DOPT are always on the chase for them, while the cab drivers are always on the run.

But, the question is, do they pay the military or the government to violate the law?
