  • Manager: Supervisory Projects – Insurers Supervision Department at FSCA South Africa

    Purpose of the Job:

    To assist with the general management of the department, coordinate and provide technical support for key supervisory projects and to help enhance and maintain a risk-based conduct of business supervisory framework for the insurance sector. The person appointed to this position will report to the Departmental Head.

    Key Performance Areas:

    Planning, managing, coordinating, and driving key supervisory projects to be conducted by the Insurers Supervision Department, thus ensuring the enhancement and implementation of appropriate and effective supervisory strategies.
    Provide expert supervisory and technical input into strategic decision-making processes in the Department and the Conduct of Business Division where required.
    Provide technical and other support to the relevant Executive Committee member on matters related to the work of the Department as and when required.
    Provide input into legislative amendments and the work of international forums where required.
    Ensure that the deliverables meet strict deadlines.
    Assist the Departmental Head by recommending and implementing changes following the outcomes identified by the supervisory projects that are undertaken.
    Assist the Departmental Head to apply a risk-based approach to prioritisation of deliverables and allocate appropriate resources accordingly.
    Engage with industry stakeholders on various conducts of business supervisory matters.
    Engage with senior management within the FSCA on operational and strategic matters as and when required.
    Engage with management of financial institutions, especially insurers on complex matters as and when required.
    Engage with stakeholders on international level when required.
    Establish constructive working relationships with co-regulators.
    Manage the human resources of the team effectively and efficiently (train, develop, monitor, lead and assess performance of staff).
    Analyse situations and large volumes of information and apply sound judgment-based decision making with great attention to detail.

    Requirements

    A bachelor’s degree in law, or a Risk Management, Business, Economics or Accounting qualification, with at least 5 – 7 years’ experience in the financial services industry, including specific experience relevant to the insurance sector. Experience in monitoring, compliance management, risk management, project management, and people management will be highly advantageous.
    Demonstrate the ability to manage diverse stakeholder relationships and collaborate across cross-functional areas will be desirable.

  • Junior Analyst – Retirement Funds Conduct Supervision Department at FSCA South Africa

    Purpose of the Job:

    To regulate and supervise retirement funds and benefit administrators through monitoring compliance with the Pension Funds Act, Regulations, Board Notice 24 of 2002, Directives and FSCA’s policy to safeguard the interest of both the members of retirement funds and retirement fund benefit administrators. The person appointed to this position will report to the Manager.

    Key Performance Areas:

    Monitor compliance with legislation to ensure sound and efficient retirement funds and benefit administrators and to ensure the protection of consumers;
    Analyse annual financial statements of retirement fund benefit administrators to ensure that proper reporting standards and procedures have been followed;
    Analyse compliance reports and annual reports on retirement fund benefit administrators;
    Liaise with retirement funds and benefit administrators on issues of non-compliance identified during desktop reviews, inspections and the analysis of compliance and annual reports;
    Support team members with the analysis of regulatory returns;
    Assist the Manager with projects and other ad hoc tasks;
    Perform on-site inspections in terms of a risk-based supervision approach;
    Produce on-site inspection reports on retirement funds and benefit administrators;
    Assist the team with planning and on-site inspections;
    Liaison with industry stakeholders; and
    Perform administrative or other activities relating to the regulatory framework.

    Requirements

    A Bachelor of Commerce or Law degree with applicable working experience. Good knowledge and exposure to the Pension Funds Act and the industry will be an added advantage.

    Description

    Duties include; but are not limited to:

    FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS

    Comply with all Customer rules and procedures when operating at Customer sites
    Assist the Explosives Controller to conduct routine fault finding, trouble shooting, maintenance and repairs on the MMU process plant and chassis
    Assist the Site Administrator with stock control
    Load and unload the MMU with the correct raw materials
    Unload raw materials (emulsion Matrix and Expan tankers)
    Cleaning and decontamination of MMU.
    Identification of any abnormal conditions on the MMU and within the work area and reporting thereof to the Explosives Controller and/or Site Supervisor
    Maintain ownership of bulk explosives MMU by conducting good housekeeping of the cab, chassis and plant.
    Minimize and clean up any raw material spillage and dispose of any spillage in the correct waste streams
    Ensure correct PPE is used ; is in good condition and is correctly worn at all times.
    Housekeeping of work area
    Identify workplace hazards and associated risks and deal with it appropriately ( Hirac & Risk Assessment)
    Knowledge of relevant hand tools
    Knowledge of emergency procedures
    Comply to the Mine`s safety and health procedures
    Attend to mines induction training
    Maintain basic safety, health and environment issues
    Assess the product application practices
    Identify incorrect product application practices
    Demonstrate and coach the correct practices

    Requirements

    Minimum Requirements and Experience:

    Must have Grade 12 ( Must)
    1-2 years’ experience in the mining or similar environment ( Must)

    Additionally (not a must):

    Possession of a valid code C Driver’s license (Must

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Management:

    • You will coordinate with the Sales Vice President(s) to define and implement the technical strategy for South Africa.

    Requirement

    Experience:

    • Experience (minimum 3 years) in a relevant field (preferably Smartcard, EMV, Banking Payment System, Embedded Software, project management, team management) or equivalent experience within Gemalto/Thales

    Education :

    • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Electronics/Engineering
    • Additional Business School degree is welcome
    • IT background welcome
