  • Permanent solution to help cure Type 2 Diabetes completely

Diabetes rates are rising, in fact it is now considered an (epidemic) in the medical community.

The International Diabetes Federation reports that:
=> 1.5 Million Nigerians are confirmed Diabetic.
=> Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death.

=> Diabetes increases heart attack risk and 68% of diabetes related death certificates report heart related problems.

There are various causes of diabetes, which include Genetic Factor, Stress, Toxins, Adrenals and Excess Sugar

But How Do We Solve It?

All of the above contributing factors don’t usually happen by themselves.

Since the body functions as a whole, a problem in one area will usually correlate to problems in others. A combination of the factors above can be the catalyst for a full blown case of diabetes (or a lot of other diseases).

While researchers often look at a single variable when trying to discover a cure for a disease, often the best approach is one that addresses the body as a whole.

As with all diseases, the best cure is good prevention, but certain measures can help reverse disease once it has occurred.

Unfortunately, most people are not given the benefit of this approach. When diagnosed with diabetes, most people are told to avoid sugar (good step, not the solution). If the problem is bad enough, they are told to take medication to give the body insulin.

Insulin is also dangerous if it is left circulating the the blood. Somehow, treating too much circulating glucose and insulin with more insulin doesn’t seem like the right approach.

It isn’t just keeping blood sugar levels down through insulin control that helps diabetes, but fixing the actual problem causing the diabetes.

Addressing just one aspect of the problem (blood sugar or insulin) ignores all the other factors like poor diet, toxins, stress, gut problems, immune issues etc.

Instead, this single focuses approach can contribute to the problem, making insulin resistance worse and eventually leading to insulin dependent diabetes when the pancreas shuts down completely.

7 Steps To Help Your Body Recover From Diabetes.

    1. Get Insulin Problems Under Control– Diabetes is triggered by insulin resistance and regaining proper insulin sensitivity can help reverse the process.

    2. Get Your Fats in Good Balance – Overabundance of Omega-6 fats in the diet is a contributing factor in diabetes.

    3. Fix your Gut – Not the beer gut, your intestines.

    4. Exercise – Even the mainstream medical community recognizes the advantage of exercise, as it increases the muscles ability to use insulin and over time can help fix insulin resistance.

    5. Lose Excess Weight– Obesity and Diabetes often go hand in hand, losing weight can help mitigate diabetes, and also lowers your risk of getting it to begin with.

    6. Reduce Stress– Stress raises cortisol and can lead to hormone imbalance, insulin issues and increases risk for certain types of disease.

    7. Supplement– Supplements can help your body heal from diabetes, especially while your body works to gain proper insulin reactions again.

  • Health Benefits Of ‘Udara’ (African Star Apple) You Must Know

African Star Apple, Agbalumo in Yoruba, Udara in Igbo is a popular seasonal fruit normally consumed with its flesh in Nigeria.

Udara (Agbalumo) is mostly cultivated in the rural areas of the country and fully in season from January to April. Agbalumo, when fully ripe and consumed, is sweet, lush and sensitizes the taste buds of the eater. To crown it up, it is highly nutritious.

    2. Helps Diabetic conditions: Star apples may have particular benefits for diabetics. Research indicates that the leaves of this fruit may reduce glucose levels in diabetic rabbits, the same function that insulin serves. However, that consuming star apple leaves appears to have a toxic affect when eaten in large quantities. More research is needed to determine the effectiveness of star apple leaves to control diabetes in humans.

  • Mercury In Canned Tuna Is Too High For Pregnant Women – Health Group

Nutrition experts agree that fish is a good source of protein and healthy fats, but these health benefits often come with a down side. Many fish species, from deep-ocean varieties like tuna to river-bound species like carp, also contain high levels of mercury, which the fish absorb from polluted waters. Because studies have shown that mercury, a heavy metal, can be toxic to neurons in the brain, a draft of FDA recommendations advise pregnant women or women expecting to become pregnant to avoid high-mercury fish altogether when they’re expecting.

But scientists at the Environmental Working Group (EWG) show that even if women follow the government’s advice on which types of fish to eat while they’re pregnant, they may be exposing themselves and their unborn babies to unsafe levels of mercury — and not gaining the benefits of the omega-3 fats that they believe they’re getting from the fish.

The reason, the EWG charges, is that the list of high-mercury fish is incomplete or inaccurate. Specifically, canned light tuna is listed as a lower-mercury fish, but some studies show it’s still high in mercury and it makes the National Resources Defense Council’s list of high-mercury seafood. Plus, it contains relatively low amounts of the healthy omega-3 fats, which means its risks may outweigh its benefits.

“It’s misleading to name canned light tuna as one of the low-mercury species that women are encouraged to eat,” says Sonya Lunder, senior analyst at EWG who wrote the report. It can take months for mercury in the body to get fully eliminated, so doctors should also be advising women to avoid eating too much of the high-mercury fish for at least six months before they become pregnant.

An FDA spokesperson said in a written response to questions that the agency “will update our advice” after more than 200 comments submitted by the public on its draft recommendation. In a statement, the National Fisheries Institute disagreed with the conclusions in the report, calling it a ‘slickly packaged marketing piece designed to drive traffic to its mercury calculator; promotional click bait.’”

EWG asked 254 women of child-bearing age who ate more than the government’s recommended amount of fish to record their seafood consumption and submit hair samples for mercury testing. Among women following this preliminary advice of two to three servings of different types of fish a week three out of 10 women sampled were exposed to levels of mercury deemed unhealthy by the EPA.

“There’s no reason why the government shouldn’t be doing a better job at providing clearer information for women who seek it out,” she says. The FDA-EPA guidelines, which aren’t final and still in draft form, only mention swordfish, king mackerel, tilefish and shark as species for pregnant women to avoid, and suggest limiting albacore tuna to six ounces per week.

To help women to lower how much mercury they’re getting exposed to in their food, she says, “you need a longer list of things to be aware of.”

But other government advice gets it right, says Lunder. The recent dietary guidelines for Americans, while controversial for other reasons, advises all adults to eat at least eight ounces of a variety of seafood a week. To avoid mercury exposure, the guidelines provide a list of low mercury seafood, which include salmon, anchovies, herring, shad, sardines, Pacific oysters, and trout. That list should be part of the FDA-EPA advice as well, says EWG scientists, so that women who are pregnant have more complete information about which types of seafood are safer for them while they are expecting — and not just a limited list of what not to eat.

As the data on the mercury content of some fish continues to grow, doctors are staring to avoid making blanket recommendations to just eat more fish. Everyone needs to be more aware of balancing the benefits of seafood against its potential risks, and that means considering options, like salmon, that provide the benefits of omega-3s while minimizing  to toxins like mercury.

  • UNIC – More men die of AIDS in Nigeria than women in spite of infection rate

The Lagos Director, United Nations Information Centre, Mr. Ronald Kayanja, has said women have a poorer representation in the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration than in past administrations.

He also said more men than women die of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome in the country, in spite of the fact that women are more affected by HIV.

Kayanja said this on Wednesday at the United Nations International Women’s Day celebration organised by a coalition of non-governmental organisations in Lagos.

While attributing the under-representation of women in governance to a huge campaign finance and traditional perception of women, he said economic and gender-based violence also increased the risk of young women contracting HIV.

He said, “In Nigeria today, women represent 58 per cent of all the people living with HIV. The power inequalities that underline gender-based violence, including physical, sexual, psychological and economic violence, expose young women to HIV.

“I hasten to add that even though women are disproportionately affected by the HIV epidemic, more men than women die of AIDS every year in Nigeria.

“Of particular concern to the UN is the political will to implement the Nigeria National Gender Policy, which commits to affirmative action and requires that women fill 35 per cent of appointed positions.

“Regrettably, we are far from the target presently. For instance, in the current National Assembly, women representation is at its lowest with only 5.6 per cent of the members of the House of Representatives and 6.5 per cent of the senators being women.”
