This country has gone from bad to worst. The deplorable state of this General Hospital in Etinan area of Akwa Ibom state is unbelievable. Too bad!
Upon the most paid allocations being collected by the state, and the hospitality is still like this? I think Nigeria need to be recolonized for another 100 years just like Donald Trump said. See photos after the cut…

Lassa fever kills 14 in Taraba State
Lassa fever has claimed 14 lives in Taraba from January to date, an official has said.
Dr Aisha Sani, the Chairperson, Lassa Fever Committee in the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Jalingo.
According to her, of the 49 suspected cases of the disease reported in the hospital, 21 persons were treated and discharged.
However, she disclosed that seven suspected Lassa fever patients on admission in the hospital had fled the facility.
“Seven persons had absconded. We are making frantic efforts to arrest and bring them back to the hospital before they infect others with the disease.
“We have our internal securities here, but the truth is that we need more to secure the Lassa fever unit,” Sani said.
The doctor said laboratory test had so far confirmed four cases of the disease, while four suspected cases were referred to the Institute of Lassa Fever Research and Control, Irrua, Edo.
“The four patients had already developed kidney failure and you know we don’t have dialysis section here.
“Let me use this medium to appeal to the Federal Government to provide a dialysis unit in this hospital so that we can save lives,” she said.
Sani said the hospital was currently handling two cases of the disease, adding that the worst affected areas in the state were Jalingo, Ardo-Kola and Bali local government areas.
NAN recalls that the FMC officially confirmed the first death of three persons of Lassa fever disease on Jan. 5. (NAN)

Foam from Frogs could deliver drug therapy – Experts
Foam made by miniature frogs to protect their eggs could offer a clever way to deliver healing drugs to burns patients, say scientists.
Tough bubbles could trap and deliver medication while providing a protective barrier between the wound dressing and the damaged skin, they believe.
The Strathclyde University researchers have begun making a synthetic version of foam.
They are taking inspiration from the tiny Tungara frog from Trinidad.
After mating, the 5cm-sized amphibians whip up a bubbly nest that protects the spawn for days from disease, predators and weather.
The foam is made of at least six proteins that retain the shape and strength of the nest.
Dr Paul Hoskisson and his colleagues say they have worked out the composition of four of these proteins and have begun mixing their own recipe.
Bio-inspired
When they loaded their synthetic foam with a dye as a test, they found it released it at a steady rate for up to seven days.
Next they loaded it with an antibiotic drug called vancomycin and found the drug was released and worked as it should on infected laboratory samples, without damaging the health of cells.
But they say they are still some way off creating a foam that is as stable as the one made by the frogs.
Dr Hoskisson said: “I’d say we are about half way there, to making a stable foam. Once we do that, we would then need to test it in patients, but that will take a few years yet.”
While foams like these are a long way from hitting the clinic, they could eventually help patients with infected wounds and burns, by providing support and protection for healing tissue and delivering drugs at the same time, said Dr Hoskisson.
The researchers are presenting their early work to the Microbiology Society’s Annual Conference taking place in Liverpool.

Scientists Finally Find A Cure For HIV, No More Condoms?
For years, people were wondering when can they stop wearing condoms while having s*x with their partners, well it looks like the time is right around the corner.
It seems the long awaited cure for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) – a lentivirus that causes HIV infection and over time acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, AIDS, has been invented by scientists.
Below is how popular U.S gossip website, MediaTakeOut reported the story; For years, people were wondering WHEN CAN THEY REMOVE THEIR CONDOMS . . . well it looks like it’s right around the corner.
Scientists have for the FIRST TIME EVER – proved that they can CURE HIV. Yesterday scientists CONFIRMED that they were able to edit out HIV-1 DNA from the genome of human immune cells, preventing virus replication and reinfection of the cleared cells. In layman’s language, they used GENE THERAPY to cure HIV in HUMAN cells.
Dr. Kamel Khalili, director of the Comprehensive NeuroAIDS Center at Temple University claims that they are ready to put his new gene therapy into a new drug that will cure HIV in patients even after they stop taking the drugs.“The findings are important on multiple levels. They demonstrate the effectiveness of our gene editing system in eliminating HIV from the DNA of CD4 T-cells and, by introducing mutations into the viral genome, permanently inactivating its replication. Further, they show that the system can protect cells from reinfection and that the technology is safe for the cells, with no toxic effects,” Khalili said in a press release.

Meet the first Doctors inducted by BSU in 4 months
Another landmark in the history of the College of Health Sciences, Benue State University, Makurdi was achieved Thursday as the second and final batch of the first set of medical doctors of the University were formally inducted by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria after meeting all the laid down requirements.
The induction comes barely four months after the first set of 27 doctors were inducted in a colourful ceremony supervised by the Registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
Visitor to the University and Benue state Governor Samuel Ortom represented by his Deputy, Engr. Benson Abounu expressed happiness that through the College of Health Sciences, government core objective of enhanced provision of medical care to the Benue people is been realised.
He commended the College for its wonderful assemblage of the best medical brains in the country to help efficiently discharge its mandate of training doctors and other healthcare personnel for the country, and promised that government could do all in its power to maintain the existing high standard of training the college is known for.
Earlier, the vice chancellor. Prof Msugh Moses Kembe commended the State Government for facilitating the final accreditation which paved way for the graduation of the first set of doctors trained by the university.
Prof. Kembe implored the new doctors to be patient and not engage in activities aimed at getting them quick and fast money.
He however called on the government and concerned stakeholders to assist the College secure funding for establishment of the Clinical Skills Laboratory from TETFUND to enable them increase its intake of medical students.

Permanent solution to help cure Type 2 Diabetes completely
Diabetes rates are rising, in fact it is now considered an (epidemic) in the medical community.
The International Diabetes Federation reports that:
=> 1.5 Million Nigerians are confirmed Diabetic.
=> Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death.=> Diabetes increases heart attack risk and 68% of diabetes related death certificates report heart related problems.
There are various causes of diabetes, which include Genetic Factor, Stress, Toxins, Adrenals and Excess Sugar
But How Do We Solve It?
All of the above contributing factors don’t usually happen by themselves.
Since the body functions as a whole, a problem in one area will usually correlate to problems in others. A combination of the factors above can be the catalyst for a full blown case of diabetes (or a lot of other diseases).
While researchers often look at a single variable when trying to discover a cure for a disease, often the best approach is one that addresses the body as a whole.
As with all diseases, the best cure is good prevention, but certain measures can help reverse disease once it has occurred.
Unfortunately, most people are not given the benefit of this approach. When diagnosed with diabetes, most people are told to avoid sugar (good step, not the solution). If the problem is bad enough, they are told to take medication to give the body insulin.
Insulin is also dangerous if it is left circulating the the blood. Somehow, treating too much circulating glucose and insulin with more insulin doesn’t seem like the right approach.
It isn’t just keeping blood sugar levels down through insulin control that helps diabetes, but fixing the actual problem causing the diabetes.
Addressing just one aspect of the problem (blood sugar or insulin) ignores all the other factors like poor diet, toxins, stress, gut problems, immune issues etc.
Instead, this single focuses approach can contribute to the problem, making insulin resistance worse and eventually leading to insulin dependent diabetes when the pancreas shuts down completely.
7 Steps To Help Your Body Recover From Diabetes.
1. Get Insulin Problems Under Control– Diabetes is triggered by insulin resistance and regaining proper insulin sensitivity can help reverse the process.
2. Get Your Fats in Good Balance – Overabundance of Omega-6 fats in the diet is a contributing factor in diabetes.
3. Fix your Gut – Not the beer gut, your intestines.
4. Exercise – Even the mainstream medical community recognizes the advantage of exercise, as it increases the muscles ability to use insulin and over time can help fix insulin resistance.
5. Lose Excess Weight– Obesity and Diabetes often go hand in hand, losing weight can help mitigate diabetes, and also lowers your risk of getting it to begin with.
6. Reduce Stress– Stress raises cortisol and can lead to hormone imbalance, insulin issues and increases risk for certain types of disease.
7. Supplement– Supplements can help your body heal from diabetes, especially while your body works to gain proper insulin reactions again.
