  • Infiltration reports making over $150k a year playing fighting games before competitive bans

    Posted by EventHubs • 2 hours, 2 minutes ago • Comments: 6

Lee “Infiltration” Seon-woo won six Evo gold medals across four different fighting games between 2012 and 2019, making him one of the most prominent competitors the genre has ever seen. The South Korean player’s name was a shoo-in for “best in the business” conversations, and as sponsors lined up, the unlikely possibility of making a comfortable living via fighting game eSports was suddenly a very real reality for him.

Momentum abruptly ended in the latter half of 2018, however, when domestic abuse allegations brought Infiltration’s professional gaming career to a screeching halt. Here some six years later, he’s produced a video detailing his side of the story, and in it he reports that he was making over $150,000 USD annually for playing games like Street Fighter.

Infiltration spends the bulk of the video’s 42 minute runtime recounting the details leading up to, during, and following legal troubles with his ex-wife. In his closing remarks, however, he discusses the contracts he had at the time with both Monster Energy and Panda Global.

“The two-year contract I signed with Monster Energy, which offered an annual salary of $30,000 at the time, was terminated without [my] receiving a single penny,” Infiltration says. “And the contract I signed with Panda Global, which had been set for three years with an annual salary of $125,000, was also terminated,” he finishes.

It’s hard enough to make a living playing video games, but certain genres have seen immense success in the eSports realm and thus such paths have been carved. Though it’s clearly en route to join such ranks, the fighting game genre has long struggled to be included in conversations with the likes of first person shooter and MOBA titles.

In 2013, the year after Infiltration won his first Evo, victor GG|Xian famously made less than $6,000 USD after winning the 1,600+entrant Street Fighter 4 bracket.

It was around the time of Infiltration’s FGC departure that we saw teams like Echo Fox forced to close the book on their fighting game divisions after a few years of sponsoring world class players. Happenings such as this further reinforced the idea that professional careers in fighting games still weren’t all that feasible in 2018, especially since the potential for $150,000 annual salaries was widely unheard of to the public.

Capcom has been doing a lot to change this in recent years thanks to its unprecedented $2 million prize pool for Capcom Cup X. They are reducing the overall prize pool for Capcom Cup XI, but the winner will still walk away with $1 million USD.

  • Rumors and insiders seem to be suggesting that the Switch 2 could be announced this week

Over seven years ago, the Nintendo Switch was released on March 3, 2017. Consoles usually don’t see support for as long as the Switch has, but Nintendo has continued to do so likely due to the massive success of the system. Indeed, the Nintendo Switch hybrid has sold over 143.42 million worldwide, marking it as the third best-selling gaming peripheral after the Nintendo DS handheld (over 154.02 million) and PlayStation 2 console (over 155 million).

It’s been a long wait, but Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa outright confirmed that the Switch successor would be announced within this fiscal year, directly referencing the rumored console for the first time. This means that the “Switch 2” (as dubbed by fans) would have to be announced before April 1, 2025.

However, there have been some recent developments that seem to be suggesting that the Switch 2 could be announced as soon as this week. Needless to say, fans have been watching Nintendo’s Twitter very closely for any hints of this actually happening.

Nash Weedle, the insider who actually originally leaked the existence of Metroid Dread 16 days before it was announced, is now apparently claiming that a port of Elden Ring for the Switch 2 is being worked on as a “Definitive Edition” for the game. It’s supposedly being developed by Virtuos in preparation for a release before the end of 2025.

It’s also notable that Pyoro, a leaker from the past that was often referred to as the “most accurate Nintendo leaker” before he accidentally ousted his source, has also seemingly resurfaced. Pyoro has now changed his username to an emoji of eyeballs with his profile picture to the newly announced Nintendo Sound Clock Alarmo.

The emoji seems to be particularly relevant as it feels like a direct reference to the end portion of the Yooka-Replaylee trailer that recently aired. It was announced to be coming to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, and “Nintendo.” Notably, the generic Nintendo logo was highlighted by some cartoonish eyes that seemingly resembled those of Cappy’s from Mario Odyssey on the Nintendo Switch.

“Yes! Yooka-Replaylee will be playable on PS5, Xbox Series consoles and… Nintendo?” declared an interesting segment of the Yooka-Replaylee official website. “Ooh mysterious. We’ll have more on that as soon as poss!”

Needless to say, it felt fairly obvious that the Yooka-Replaylee team was hinting that this is the first game being officially announced for the Switch 2, before the Switch 2 has even been showcased. This would also mean that the developers needed direct permission from Nintendo to highlight the console in this way.

Earlier this morning, many fans were paying special attention to Nintendo’s Twitter specifically at 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET. Around that time, we received a big announcement. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, based on Xenoblade Chronicles X which was exclusively on the Wii U, is coming to the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2025.

When asked directly what Pyoro was hinting at with the changes to his profile, he noted that Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition was what he was hinting at. Additionally, he vaguely commented that “there’s a little more” to be revealed.

Though many fans were anticipating an announcement regarding the Switch 2 this morning, it didn’t happen. Of course, there are still signs suggesting that this sort of announcement could happen on Wednesday or even Thursday.

Over on the Nintendo website, Nintendo’s next “Six Months Earnings Release” investors meeting is scheduled to take place on November 5, 2025 — next Tuesday. Needless to say, it would make sense for Nintendo to make a big announcement before that date to impress investors.

However, this announcement likely won’t happen on Monday (for the United States) as November 3, 2025 (for Japan) is “Bunka no Hi” (Culture Day), a national holiday for Japan.

Additionally, Masahiro Sakurai recently noted that he’s been working on a secret game project since April 2022 while managing his YouTube channel. He obviously didn’t say much about it, but he did claim that “it should be announced sooner or later.”

As of right now, we don’t even know if Sakurai’s upcoming game is being developed for Nintendo, but that does seem like the most likely possibility. If this is indeed the case, then Nintendo would’ve had to give permission to Sakurai to make these sort of statements.

Regardless, Sakurai now appears to be solely focused on whatever this new game project is now that his YouTube channel has been officially wrapped up. At this point, it seems that it’s been in development for around the same time as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but it hasn’t even been announced yet.

Based on the timeline of events, it’s beginning to look like Sakurai’s new game could be a launch title for the Switch 2. Could it be the next entry in the Super Smash Bros. series?

Ultimately though, we just have to keep waiting for official word from Nintendo about details regarding this mysterious Switch successor. Here’s hoping that there actually are announcements scheduled for this week, but there are currently only rumors and circumstantial evidence backing this speculation.

Do you think we’re getting a big reveal this week? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

  • Ghostface teaser trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 reveals new skins and early access date

It seems we’re about a month away from getting the next Mortal Kombat 1 DLC character as NetherRealm Studios has released the official teaser trailer for Ghostface.

While we don’t get any actual gameplay footage of the Scream antagonist in action, we are treated to what appear to be a handful of alternate masks players will be able to customize the character with. On top of that, NRS has announced Ghostface will be available for early access on November 19.

If Mortal Kombat 1 developers follow the same schedule for previous DLC releases, Ghostface will become available to the public on Tuesday, November 26, one week after his early access date.

We’ve rounded up a gallery of most of the alternate masks shown off in the less than 30 second spot. One looks a lot like Scorpion’s iconic yellow face wear, while another looks a lot like a T-800 Terminator (though it could also be a reference to Jason X).

Another looks almost like a gunnysack material, reminiscent of scarecrows or perhaps a patching together of human skin a la what one might see in Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Evil Dead films.

NetherRealm Studios was also sure to showcase a correction made since the last time we saw a Ghostface showcase. One of the character’s Fatality animations concludes with two Ghostfaces cleaning their blades in unison, but had some fairly obvious visual mistakes when it was first shown.

Said mistakes all appear to have been corrected, making for yet another one of NetherRealm Studios’ usual top notch presentations. You can see some of the alternate costume accessories in the freeze frames via the gallery here, and can watch the full teaser below.

To access Ghostface you’ll need to have either purchased the Khaos Reigns bundle, which includes all six Kombat Pack 2 DLC characters (Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian) or purchase him seperately for $7.99 USD.

  • Tekken 8 server maintenance scheduled for 6:30 pm PT for Version 1.09 update with balance adjustments and apology Tekken Coins

It hasn’t even been a full month since Heihachi Mishima launched as the latest character in Tekken 8, but there’s already a new and notable patch on the way tonight.

Bandai Namco is getting ready to launch the Version 1.09.01 update for Tekken 8 shortly, but first they need to perform some server maintenance in the game — and now the full patch notes can also be found here.

The developers revealed the maintenance is scheduled to begin today, October 28, at 6:30 p.m. PT / 9:30 ET and run through approximately 10 p.m. PT / 1 a.m. ET.

Meanwhile, the actual update is set to be ready to download around 7 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. ET.

During this time, all online features will remain unavailable including matchmaking, leaderboards, the in-game shop and rewards.

As for the contents of this update, we seem to already know a bit about it from being mentioned in the previous Version 1.08 patch notes.

Bandai Namco noted they are looking at adjustments that will “affect the behavior of certain characters” with Dragunov and Alisa mentioned specifically.

These changes were said to apply to the tracking on some of their attacks and how the opponents react when it though we won’t know the full scope of the balance adjustments until the new patch notes drop soon.

On top of that, this new update should also include 500 Tekken Coins for free that are said to be offered from October 29 through November 26 for everyone who logs on during that period.

This is part of the apology to Tekken players that Bandai Namco previously announced after the company received pushback for how they handled the Genmaji Stage DLC earlier this month.

Stay tuned to EventHubs for the full patch notes and more information as it becomes available.

  • Tekken 8 Version 1.09.01 patch notes

There’s a new Tekken 8 update available today for players to download just over three weeks after Heihachi Mishima was revived to rejoin the game as its latest DLC character.

Bandai Namco just released the full patch notes for their Version 1.09.01 update in Tekken 8 that provides some changes to the fighters and free currency for players.

Alisa and Dragunov are each receiving a handful of changes that amount to mostly nerfs for the characters while Heihachi, Nina and Devil Jin are also getting some general adjustments.

Since there are balance changes, all previous replays and tips will be unavailable from the prior version.

Tekken is also adding some new content to acquire character and avatar customization packs and items with one being free and the rest premium.

Special Ghosts are also going to appear in the Tekken Fight Lounge, apparently including Director Katsuhiro Harada, and defeating them will net you more special items as well.

This will likely be the last notable update for Tekken 8 before the Tekken World Tour Finals 2024 begins in early December.

Although it’s not mentioned specifically in the patch notes, players can receive 500 Tekken Coins for free by logging in between October 29 and November 26.

  • First match footage for Queen Dizzy revealed showcasing her wild range and beautiful ice-cold powers in Guilty Gear Strive

Guilty Gear fans had been left waiting since 2021 for their queen to return to the frontlines, and that time is almost upon us now.

The first match footage for Queen Dizzy in Guilty Gear Strive has been released showcasing what her gameplay actually looks like in action and how pretty it all looks.

GameSpot just dropped a bit under eight minutes of the new DLC character battling against Ramlethal and Faust, which shows off her ability to keep up with the other fighters with long reach and capitalize from a distance.

As detailed in the queen’s official starter guide, Dizzy retains her fire and ice abilities thanks to her shadowy guardians, Necro and Undine, who also help her out with big normals too.

It appears Dizzy will be able to more easily combo into her massive Gamma Ray Overdrive more easily now compared to the last game, so hopefully that will make the move more useful than it was before.

We were really hoping to see more of her Wings of Light ability considering they look pretty crazy on paper by passively draining the opponent’s health after a long startup period, but that unfortunately doesn’t come up in the matches here.

Dizzy is set to drop on October 31 to kick off Season 4 in Strive, and she’ll be bringing with her tricks and treats as well with a balance update for the rest of the cast.

You can check out the first gameplay footage for the queen below.

  • Bandai Namco removes and bans finals-qualified player from Tekken World Tour for rule violations

The first competitive season for Tekken 8 is rapidly approaching its grand conclusion with the Tekken World Tour Finals 2024 just over a month away, but there’s now been a shakeup in the big event’s bracket.

Bandai Namco announced today they’ve removed a player who qualified for the TWT finals and handed out a one-year ban for breaking the rules of the circuit.

The company released a statement revealing the regional champion for North & East Africa has been disqualified from the tour.

“We want to share an important update regarding the North & East Africa regional leaderboard. the player ranked first, is no longer recognized as the regional champion due to his failure to adhere to the rules and regulations of the Tekken World Tour 2024. As a result, the runner-up has now been declared the regional champion.

“In addition, the player will be banned from the Tekken World Tour 2025 and all other official Bandai Namco Esports competitions for one year. This decision reflects our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of fair play and integrity within the community.

“Fair competition and respect are the cornerstones of the Tekken World Tour. We remain dedicated to ensuring that all players adhere to these principles.

    “Thank you for your understanding.”

The now disqualified player appears to be ILIAS, who previously released his own statement where he apologized and accepted the consequences.

While it seems ILIAS is originally from Morocco, he now resides in the Netherlands, yet still continued to compete in events for the African region.

The finals qualifying spot will now transfer to Deadakari, who finished second on the leaderboard.

This isn’t the first time that Bamco has disqualified a player from the TWT when the 18-year-old player from China, Essence|XCC, was removed from Thaiger Uppercut 2024 after reaching top 8 because his country wasn’t included among the permitted regions.

After facing backlash, the company amended their rules to include China and invite XCC to compete in the last chance qualifier for the finals.

The Tekken World Tour Finals themselves are set to take place December 7–8 in Tokyo, Japan where the first world champion of Tekken 8 will be crowned.

  • Tier list based on how good each of the ‘What If’ scenarios that are found within Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has been universally praised since it was released. According to the developers, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero was able to hit 3 million sales in just 24 hours.

One of the fun traditions of Dragon Ball arena fighters is the “What If” scenarios that allow players to actually explore story routes that branch away from the original canon. Needless to say, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has a number of What If scenarios that have some rather fascinating developments.

In a recent video upload, KeyReviews has created a tier list of sorts that ranks how each of these scenarios stack up against one another. Of course, KeyReviews ends up adding some of his own speculation with regards to the potential ramifications of how the story could be changed with these alternate events playing out.

For example, there’s the situation that sees Goku actually surviving during the fight against Raditz. This results in Goku never learning the Kaio-Ken or the Spirit Bomb (Genki Dama). Indeed, Goku isn’t able to defeat Nappa in the same way in the story.

Ultimately, Piccolo and Krillin are killed during the battles with Nappa and Vegeta respectively. Events end up playing differently due to Goku transforming into a Super Saiyan this early into the main story.

However, the story that KeyReviews seems to rate as being the best story is the one in which Gohan decides to continue his training after defeating Golden Frieza. While this may seem inconsequential at first, it actually ends up introducing a totally original villain in the storyline.

While there are plenty of great stories within Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, there are also a number of duds. Needless to say, KeyReviews ends up giving these stories appropriate ratings.

  • Why nobody plays Jun Kazama anymore in Tekken 8

Up until Tekken 8, Jun Kazama’s only playable appearance in the mainline Tekken series (which excludes Tekken Tag Tournament) was Tekken 2. Indeed, it had been over 28 years since Jun was playable in Tekken.

After the Tekken 8 beta, the developers noted how surprised they were at Jun’s lack of popularity upon revealing information pertaining to the character usage stats during the test period. Despite being unpopular, it was apparently quietly noticed by members of the fighting game community that Jun had top tier potential.

As outlined by BoogardMG, Jun was perceived to be one of the strongest characters upon Tekken 8 being released. This was mostly due to her having ridiculous damage output and an insanely strong Heat Smash.

Of course, this resulted in Jun becoming more popular. Tournament players from around the world began to recognize Jun as being a strong character to use at competitive events.

However, the developers opted to nerf Jun’s damage shortly after the game was released. Along with this, players began experimenting with how to deal with Jun’s pressure tools in the lab.

Though players were beginning to understand the Jun match up, the developers ended up nerfing Jun a few more times. Since then, Jun has turned out to be one of the weaker characters in Tekken 8.

Unfortunately for Jun fans, she never truly recovered after being heavily nerfed. Needless to say, Jun is now one of the least popular characters in Tekken 8.

Check out BoogardMG’s video on the subject below:

  • After years of teasing, intense Skull Kid trailer for Super Smash Bros. is unveiled by King Bob but it’s only fan made

Back in 2021, Waluigi fans finally got what they wanted. Waluigi ended up getting his own Super Smash Bros. trailer thanks to the efforts of King Bob. Towards the end of that trailer, King Bob teased that he was also working on including The Legend of Zelda’s Skull Kid into the mix.

Though years went by without this happening, King Bob continued to allude to a cinematic trailer for Skull Kid. Recently, King Bob announced that he’d no longer develop mods for Super Smash Bros. as he really just wanted to focus on creating trailers that told interesting stories. With that in mind, King Bob has finally released the Skull Kid trailer.

Needless to say, the new Skull Kid trailer captures the essence and themes of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask in ways that we’ve never seen before. Indeed, this ends up being an intense and truly terrifying trailer.

It really seems that the end is nigh for Clock Town as impact with the moon has become imminent. Many characters present in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have seemingly given up hope.

Even a character like Bowser ends up having a touching moment with Isabelle. However, it seems that Skull Kid has decided that the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has yet to endure enough suffering.

Eventually, Skull appears on the scene and directly engages with all the characters present. Things take an intense turn as most of the roster are transformed into dead, twisted trees.

The cinematic mostly follows Isabelle as she tries to escape Skull Kid’s wrath. In the end, it appears that Young Link is the only one that’s still around to protect her.

However, an unlikely hero is also ready to make his debut as a Super Smash Bros. character within this trailer. Regardless, King Bob is able to tell a pretty compelling story in just four minutes.

    Check it all out below:

Despite only really have a presence in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, there are a lot of fans out there that would someday love to see Skull Kid (equipped with Majora’s Mask) actually join the roster for a Super Smash Bros. entry.

Masahiro Sakurai recently revealed that he’s been working on a secret game project since April 2022. Perhaps this sort of thing could someday become a reality.
