  • This might just be the dirtiest Drive Impact setup I’ve ever seen in Street Fighter 6

Not counting the bugged interaction with Kimberly from the beta…

Drive Impacts, when used strategically, is a powerful tool found within every character’s kit in Street Fighter 6. It’s one of the big reasons why the corner is the deadliest place to be during gameplay.

To compete at high level, a player must be prepared to react against Drive Impacts reflexively and without hesitation. However, it would seem that one competitive player, YAS, has a dirty trick up his sleeve that can turn this trained skill into a liability for the opponent.

After trapping the opponent in the corner with his Ryu, YAS is able to secure an opening against the opposing Guile player. As a result, he ends a combo with the donkey kick into a dragon punch for some decent damage.

Immediately after this, YAS triggers his Drive Impact. At first glance, it might seem like this was done accidentally, but YAS actually initiated this action purposefully.

Thanks to this specific timing, Ryu’s Drive Impact ended up completely whiffing against Guile as he was getting up. However, this prompted the opponent to instinctively activate his own Drive Impact to counter Ryu.

By this point, Ryu had already recovered from the usage of his own Drive Impact and was able to go straight into… another Drive Impact. As a result, he absorbed Guile’s attack and crumpled him for a free combo.

One has to imagine that this would have a major effect on someone’s mindset. With just the slightest delay, Ryu can activate his Drive Impact just barely later, resulting in a successful hit on wakeup.

As mentioned before, players don’t really have enough time to hesitate when put into this situation, but this is the type of setup can be utilized to inject some hesitation with future attempts. Check it all out below:

  • Which characters will receive significant buffs or nerfs in Street Fighter 6’s Mai Shiranui patch?

Every time Street Fighter 6 has had a new DLC character added into the game, balance changes have come packaged with the latest addition to the roster.

Mai Shiranui is scheduled to be released on February 5, 2025, a bit over a week away from today’s date. To help gauge where the community thinks Street Fighter 6’s character balance is at, we’ve set up two polls asking our audience who they think will get significant buffs or nerfs.

While not every character receives numerous changes every patch, it’s fairly common to see notable changes for a good portion of the cast when new DLC characters are added.

The polls are set to close on February 5th, right around when the patch is scheduled to drop and maintenance will begin on Street Fighter 6’s servers and infrastructure.

All 24 of the game’s characters are available to be voted on below in two separate polls, the top for nerfs and the bottom for buffs, and 6 characters can be selected in each poll, to give the audience a larger dataset to reflect upon.

Feel free to explain your votes in the comments below. First off is the poll for who will receive nerfs.

Next up is the poll for who will receive significant buffs.

  • After denying Galactus, Marvel debated back and forth over villains with Marvel vs. Capcom team to determine their final boss

Marvel vs. Capcom is a legendary gaming icon today, but getting the series truly off the ground was nothing short of a miracle held together by effort and coordination from one side of the world to the other.

The secret Japanese Marvel vs. Capcom website from the ’90s held a lot of information that remained mostly hidden for almost 30 years — including how the companies debated about who to use as a final boss in the first MvC.

We recently translated part of the developer blog from the site rediscovered by TheSeventhForce where MvC Producer Kenji Kataoka discussed how Galactus was rejected by Marvel as the game’s big bad.

This is of course pretty ironic because the massive godlike being did end up becoming the boss of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 almost two decades later, but there was of course more villains brought up in their discussions.

They needed someone big to follow up Apocalypse after he was in X-Men vs. Street Fighter, but Marvel was trying to push a pretty unexpected choice.

After Marvel shot down Galactus and Capcom wasn’t interested in Loki, the comic book company suggested Fin Fang Foom.

“‘So, what about Fin Fang Foom? He’s big, and he’s a dragon’, said Marvel,” as written by Kataoka and translated by our own Nicholas ‘MajinTenshinhan’ Taylor.

“I don’t know if they were aware that I had worked on Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara, but to me it was an enticing proposition. (If you know it, again you’d be quite the connoisseur).

“‘But for Japanese people, sure we know of dragons… But just having ‘a dragon’ doesn’t feel that exciting.’

“So then Marvel said, ‘Don’t worry, in the world of Iron Man he’s famous. He’s his biggest boss enemy.’”

Kataoka pointed out the problem with that considering they were told earlier in the process they couldn’t use Iron Man himself.

“I totally understand what you’re saying, but when we asked you if we could use Iron Man you said no, you did that just now.

“Why can’t the main character Iron Man be in, but his boss can?”

That’s when the Producer would put forth an apparent solution even if it wouldn’t come together right away.

“As I tried to constrain myself from saying this, I said ‘Onslaught’… I knew it’d be rejected as I said it, but Marvel were silent.

“At this point, I was desperate. I’d just keep throwing out famous names until I got one to stick!!
    ‘Carnage!!’

“… We looked at each other… We turned our heads to each other.
These were the only two names I could think of at the time.

“We left Los Angeles with a feeling of ambiguity over where we’d ended up.

“So, time to talk to the team about the results.

“Onslaught really does fit as the last boss.

“A boss that exceeds Apocalypse, there’s only Onslaught for that.

“He makes you think ‘whoa…’, he’s strong, he’s cool, he has style…

“I asked Shaky Akitomo if he could do another petition and ask Marvel for Onslaught.

“And then, the answer came. ‘We’ll think about it.’

“Ohh, did we actually find a loose thread to pull on?

    “And then, several weeks passed.

“Unbelievably,’OK’ came back as a response… They sent us reference materials. You’re amazing, Marvel.

“And so, the Marvel side characters had been decided.”

So there you go. Onslaught wasn’t really either side’s first or second pick to be the final boss of Marvel vs. Capcom, but the stars aligned to make him fit pretty perfectly into the role as someone that could be an even bigger threat than Apocalypse.

And playing the game, he’s a bigger jerk too.

It’s also funny that Capcom was asking about Carnage all the way back in like 1997, but we still never got to see him as an official fighter across three more mainline entries.

Fans would have to wait for modders to add the Spider-Man villain to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

And the only time we’ve really seen Fin Fang Foom was as a card in UMvC3’s Heroes and Heralds mode and in Arthur’s ending for the game.

Now that the company is working together again, perhaps we will see more of these characters should Marvel vs. Capcom 4 actually come to be.

For more translations from the MvC Producer’s Essays, we’ve also covered Capcom’s desire for Howard the Duck, the characters absolutely required by Marvel and more rejected fighters like the Fantastic Four.

  • Masahiro Sakurai’s promotions of these three Assist Trophies in Super Smash Bros. provide a lot of hope for other requests

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a true celebration of gaming. Masahiro Sakurai and his development team went to great lengths to bring us a roster featuring 86 challengers.

Of course, many of these characters had to settle for different functions within the Super Smash Bros. series before they were eventually able to get “promoted” to playable status. It’s interesting to note that only three of these fighters thus far had beginnings as Assist Trophies.

The first of these characters is Little Mac from the Punch Out franchise. Before he became playable in Super Smash Bros. 4, he made his Smash debut as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

“However, for me, ‘Does that character have unique abilities’ and ‘Do [they] add to the game’s enjoyment in a positive way?’ are the important questions. When you compare balance to these concerns, balancing becomes a small detail.” — Masahiro Sakurai

According to a translation by Source Gaming, Masahiro Sakurai noted that characters with such extreme strengths and weaknesses like Little Mac tend to either constantly win or lose, to the point of causing imbalances. He even goes so far as to say that they can’t avoid breaking the balance of games like Super Smash Bros., but Sakurai wanted to include Little Mac anyhow.

“However, for me, ‘Does that character have unique abilities’ and ‘Do [they] add to the game’s enjoyment in a positive way?’ are the important questions,” said Sakurai on the subject of Little Mac. “When you compare balance to these concerns, balancing becomes a small detail. What kind of game is ‘Smash Brothers’ in the first place? Playing together with friends while laughing is the main component. I guess it can’t be helped.”

During the era of Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS (just before the release of Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U), Little Mac proved to be quite the terror initially. Sakurai would eventually point out that Little Mac had the lowest win rate of all characters at the time during online play. Despite this, Little Mac would still be nerfed in balance patches due to the frustrations he caused for players.

The other two characters that got promoted from Assist Trophy to playable character are Isabelle and Dark Samus. Coincidentally, both challengers initially appeared as Assist Trophies in Super Smash Bros. 4, and then became controllable fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Both of these combatants were ultimately chosen due to their popularity. Dark Samus in particular is said to be popular over here in the West. It turns out that a lot of fans wanted more Metroid representation up until this point (back when only Samus and Zero Suit Samus were playable).

While Dark Samus behaves as an Echo Figher of Samus, Isabelle is technically a completely separate fighter from Villager, though there are many similarities in their movesets. Although Isabelle was likely built off of Villager, Sakurai has asserted before that all of Isabelle’s animations and proportions are different to that of the Villager’s.

It’s very likely that Dark Samus and Isabelle’s promotions were the direct result of the Smash Ballot held during the DLC era of Super Smash Bros. 4. Sakurai has mentioned many times before how the results of this poll were continuously referenced during the development of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

As expected, character popularity plays a huge factor in terms of the decision making for the roster. This can be enough to prompt Sakurai to promote an Assist Trophy into a playable challenger.

It’s also been implied that Sakurai did consider Spring Man as DLC in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate even though he was already an Assist Trophy in that very game. Spring Man could be thought of as the protagonist of ARMS, but ARMS Producer Kosuke Yabuki told Sakurai that “everyone’s the protagonist” in that game.

Ultimately, Sakurai ended up choosing Min Min over Spring Man and the rest of the ARMS roster due to a personal request from Mr. Yabuki. This was because Min Min was Yabuki’s favorite character.

In other words, Sakurai is always going to make it a point to respect a creator’s wishes when using their properties. While this has caused difficulties for development, Sakurai clearly feels like this is an extremely important factor when considering characters.

With all of that in mind, there are a ton of other Assist Trophies based on other video game characters that fans have been requesting for years. A few notable examples include Shadow the Hedgehog, Isaac, Waluigi, Ashley, Lyn, Takamaru, Akira, Alucard, Shovel Knight, Zero, and many more.

It’s funny to think that the Assist Trophy showcase that gets shown off prior to the launch of a Super Smash Bros. entry tends to cause more disappointment rather than excitement among the fans. Indeed, any fighter that is shown off as an Assist Trophy is essentially disconfirmed, though Sakurai himself has never explicitly stated this to be the case. Regardless, the rule has held up thus far.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been officially unveiled by Nintendo. Assuming the company continues to follow through with their tradition of a new Super Smash Bros. entry for every mainline console, there should be a new iteration announced at some point.

Of course, it just so happens that Masahiro Sakurai has been working on a secret game project since April 2022. He wrote up the proposal for this mysterious game “at lightning speed” back in July 2021, while still juggling the development of Kazuya and Sora DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

If Sakurai is developing the next Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo Switch 2, then we’ll very likely be seeing some new faces on the roster. Or perhaps we’ll be seeing some promotions from the cast of Assist Trophies. There are still plenty of popular picks that fans would love to see.

It’s only happened three times before, but who is to say that it couldn’t happen again? We’ll just have to see what happens when Nintendo is finally ready to reveal some more games for the Nintendo Switch 2.

  • More new Mai Street Fighter 6 gameplay footage surfaces as Maximilian and Sajam release their early impressions

More and more Mai Shiranui continues to surface as she is now less than two weeks away from being added to Street Fighter 6’s roster as DLC. Even Nintendo got in on the Mai action as they announced just yesterday that Fatal Fury 2 is now available to play via Nintendo Switch Online for those who have an active membership.

But on the Street Fighter 6 front, this week we saw new gameplay footage of Mai come out of Japan, which revealed things like her Game Faces and her full Critical Art. Today, more new gameplay has surfaced as some content creators, including Maximilian and Sajam, were granted the opportunity to try Mai out early and have since shared their early impressions.

Kicking off with Sajam’s thoughts, the avid commentator / content creator does a quick run through of Mai’s Game Faces, in case you missed them. Sajam notes that during the short preview he got of her, there was no training mode allowed, and you couldn’t fight against an empty controller, so everything that was discovered and filmed was against a CPU controlled opponent.

That having been said, Sajam was able to walk away with quite a bit of good information about the upcoming fighter.

Sajam reports that Mai in Street Fighter 6 feels like a combination of A.K.I. and Chun-Li. She has a projectile that she can follow in behind, good normals and walk speed, has crouching medium kick into Drive Rush, an invincible Overdrive reversal, and really good corner carry and juggles.

We also get a better look at Mai’s fan projectile in Street Fighter 6, which is a very interesting tool. When the regular version is thrown normally, the fan can actually be hit and stopped with a normal or a projectile.

Sajam explains that he was consistently hitting the CPU Mai’s fans out of the air with normals even when he wasn’t expecting them to be thrown.

When the button is held for this projectile, though, it acts more like a standard projectile and cannot be hit out of the air, and with the Overdrive version we see that it will actually bounce off of the opponent when blocked and fall back down on top of them for another hit that isn’t an overhead, but can create some very strong looking pressure situations and mix ups.

In Maximilian’s video, we get another look at 4k Mai gameplay footage in Street Fighter 6. From the jump, he mentions that he got about 30-40 minutes to play her, so while it’s impossible to come to concrete conclusions with that little amount of time, he does have some early thoughts.

“My first impressions of her are that she has a lot of sauce,” Max began. “It seems like they had a similar design template with what they had in mind for Terry, where it’s like [they gave] the character everything they had before — where it just feels like there’s so much stuff.”

Be sure to check out both videos for a lot of details on how Mai plays in Street Fighter 6.

  • Street Fighter 6 director shares the current whereabouts of some of the franchise’s more obscure characters

Street Fighter 6’s director, Takayuki Nakayama, is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge when it comes to the franchise’s history and lore. It is also very clear that he is a huge fan of fighting games in general, and that includes the series he works to help create.

Nakayama periodically answers fan comments on Twitter, but recently he had a big blow out where he seemed to be fielding a lot of the questions that followers on Twitter sent his way. In doing so, he divulged information about characters that aren’t currently in Street Fighter 6, and in a handful of tweets shared the latest whereabouts of some of the franchise’s more obscure fighters.

The last time we checked in with Nakayama, he had mentioned that Street Fighter 4 character and master of both Ryu and Ken, Gouken, is actually still alive during the events of Street Fighter 6 and is still a fighter. Nakayama says, though, that Gouken is completely unaware of the Nayshall incident that Ken was ultimately blamed and framed for.

So how about another Street Fighter 4 character who, admittedly, isn’t quite as significant or popular as Gouken?

The Turkish wrestler and lover of body oil, Hakan, made his debut back in Super Street Fighter 4, and though he’s loved by some fans out there, it’s safe to say that he’s not one of the franchise’s popular contenders. In addition to this, we haven’t seen Hakan appear in any other games outside of the Street Fighter 4 series, and frankly, we likely won’t see him make a return any time soon.

One of the aforementioned Hakan fans wrote to Nakayama recently on Twitter to ask how the big grappler is currently doing, and the Street Fighter director had this to say.

“Hakan’s own business is doing well and the family is happy,” Nakayama’s response began. “He has become a local celebrity. The company has become so well known that it can advertise in Metro City.”

As we know, Metro City is where a good portion of Street Fighter 6’s World Tour mode takes place, and in the background of the large metropolis we see a lot of advertisements and billboards that feature several other Street Fighter characters that aren’t currently a part of the game’s story or roster.

Moving on to a character who isn’t all that obscure, but is definitely not as well known to the casual fan or your average gamer walking down the street. Sean Matsuda, brother of Laura from Street Fighter 5, first joined the fight back in Street Fighter 3, and though he was considered crazy strong in the early installments of that series, by Street Fighter 3: Third Strike he had been demoted down to what is essentially joke character status.

Here during the events of Street Fighter 6, it seems Sean has continued practicing his martial arts. In addition to this, though, it seems he’s also a basketball coach.

“He’s a competent and good character. I hope that one day he will be told somewhere,” Nakayama said in response to the follower asking if he could come back as a playable character at some point. “He’s kept up his martial arts, and his new job is coaching basketball.”

Lastly, a particular character’s name sometimes pops up when fans are requesting which fighters they want to see added to the latest game’s roster. Though she made her start in Final Fight 2, swift ninja Maki Genryusai is a combatant that found herself as a playable character in Capcom vs. SNK 2.

She would also go on to be added to Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper on the Gameboy Advance, but since then, she has been absent from any real Capcom-based fighting games.

Like Guy of Final Fight and Street Fighter fame, Maki is also a practitioner of the Bushin-ryu fighting style. She also happens to be the sister of Rena, who is Guy’s fiancé in the Final Fight/Street Fighter universe.

All of that having been said, where is Maki now?

“She is doing well. She goes back and forth between Japan and Metro City,” Nakayama said. “It seems she has an apprentice she is taking care of.”

  • Street Fighter and Darkstalkers campy American cartoons getting Blu-ray release with commentary from FGC and more

The ’80s and ’90s were truly a different time in terms of getting wacky licensed Western cartoons for video games, and that included a number of fighting games as well, which are often overlooked for a variety of reasons.

Discotek Media, however, are looking to bring back the campy Street Fighter: The Animated Series and Darkstalkers cartoons with some bonus features aimed directly at the fighting game community.

The company is looking to release both complete series on SD Blu-rays with some extra goodies, especially for Street Fighter.

All 26 episodes of the cartoon that began airing in 1995 on the USA Network on a single disc with cover art that’s really pushing the nostalgia factor.

One side looks like an old beat up VHS or DVD box while the reverse cover parodies the Super Nintendo game box.

The Blu-Ray itself also carries on that motif with Street Fighter: The Animated Series covers created for SNES and Super Famicom cartridges too.

And then there’s also the bonus features.

The biggest extras are new commentary tracks for each episode hosted by content creator Matt McMuscles featuring familiar faces / voices in the FGC like Maximilian Dood, Justin Wong, Luke voice actor Aleks Le, Lythero, GuileWinQuote and Arin “Egoraptor” Hanson.

If that wasn’t enough, they’re also including an art gallery with the cartoons original storyboards and artworks as well as a memes compilation video made up of many of the infamous moments of the show.

As for Darkstalkers, Discotek is also set to release the weird American cartoon too, which is different than the Japanese OVA that the company already did previously.

We know it includes all 13 episodes, however, there’s no details on what sort of extras and features it’ll come packing as well compared to Street Fighter.

Unfortunately, there’s no pricing information for either of these series at the moment either.

All we really know is that both are planned to come some time in 2025, so Discotek should hopefully be revealing more details in the near future for fans to plan accordingly.

  • Alleged files pointing to more Mortal Kombat 1 DLC after T-1000 discovered by modder

There’s been a lot of talk about Mortal Kombat 1 and its future over the last few months, and with the game’s latest update and some tweets from series co-creator Ed Boon, what’s coming next (if anything at all) is still being widely speculated on.

Potentially narrowing down some of this speculation, though, a PC modder by the name of Interloko has allegedly discovered files in the game after the Conan the Barbarian update that he claims are pointing to more DLC characters coming after the current last known additional fighter, T-1000.

The talk of Mortal Kombat 1 potentially having its next wave of DLC cancelled started getting attention back in November 2024 when a prominent leaker claimed that NetherRealm Studios had planned a Kombat Pack 3 and another installment in the game’s cinematic story, but it had all been scrapped.

This Reddit “verified insider” named FateUnknown said more characters after Kombat Pack 2 (which ends with T-1000) and the second story expansion have all been cancelled due to poor sales of Mortal Kombat 1’s latest major expansion, Khaos Reigns.

In addition to this, FateUnknown also noted that we might see one or two additional Kameo Fighters added to the game after this second wave concludes, but that would only be because the development work on them is already done, though the leaker said they weren’t as confident on this matter.

Since then, there’s been a lot of back and forth about what is actually happening with Mortal Kombat 1. However, this new Conan update and some recent tweets from Ed Boon may have moved the needle more into the realm of possibility that content support is to be extended beyond Kombat Pack 2.

For starters, with the addition of Conan the Barbarian as a DLC fighter also came one of the greatest secrets fighting games have seen in a very long time. The search for the mysterious pink Floyd ninja continues on at the time of writing this, and while some players have definitely encountered him by legitimate means, defeated him, and unlocked the new field stage, how exactly to get him to appear remains a mystery.

On top of all of the hype the game is generating from Floyd right now, Boon took to Twitter the other day to share some updates on the current state of Mortal Kombat 1 and recap some of the recent announcements.

In one of his tweets, Boon said, “With Conan getting into player’s hands, we are excited to keep trucking forward with future DLC.” Along with this, he included a clip showing a quick preview of one of T-1000’s Fatalities in Mortal Kombat 1.

While this could simply be read as Boon talking specifically about T-1000, especially considering the clip, saying “future DLC” to some feels like a bigger blanket statement that could be alluding to more DLC characters after the Terminator 2 villain. And Interloko may have found some files currently in the game that point to exactly that.

The modder started out with a tweet posted on January 22 that read, “I’m confident that T-1000 is NOT the last DLC.” Since then, he has followed up with a full YouTube video not only explaining why that is, but also revealing one of the characters that might be getting hinted at here.

By following the in-game files, Interloko says that the first DLC character discovered here is Kotal Kahn. He clarifies that this is not guaranteed, and not only is it possible it’s not Kotal but that even if it is, it’s still possible he’s cancelled, however, Interloko says that Kotal Kahn is who he believes the files are pointing toward and that he could be coming as DLC after Kombat Pack 2.

Interloko goes on to explain that Ed Boon specifically noted that Conan is the 11th DLC character that has been added to the game, which would make T-1000 the 12th (not counting Kameo Fighters). While digging around in the game’s files, Interloko noticed that they actually point to 20 DLC characters total (again, not counting Kameos), and though this doesn’t mean that 20 are definitely going to be added to the game, at the very least these files say that that is how many the game was intended to have.

The modder also made sure to mention that this time around the methods used for finding these in-game files and proof of the files themselves were not revealed as the last time he did so it appeared the developers moved things around and changed them to better throw those who dig into these things off the scent.

Without proof of what the files look like, it’s hard to say if what Interloko is reporting is true. These kinds of things should always be taken with a grain of salt regardless.

However, Interloko did recently upload some of the first Floyd gameplay footage we’d seen by using PC mods, so there’s clearly an understanding of the innerworkings of Mortal Kombat 1 here.

  • LoTT’s Favorite Executive Orders – Libs of TikTok

    IT’S OFFICIAL!

Donald Trump is officially once again the President of the United States. And it has been a week of WINNING.

As soon as President Trump took office, he signed a flurry of Executive Orders to combat the terrible policies of the last 4 years and put America back on track.

While all of the EOs are important and impactful for putting America First, there were three in particular that Libs of TikTok especially loved and fought hard to expose over the last 4 years.

First up, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order to protect women’s rights and declare that there are only two sexes: Male and Female

Additionally, the Executive Order also bans the practice of placing men in women’s prisons and prohibits any federal funds from being used to promote gender ideology.

Second, President Trump signed an Executive Order banning DEI from all federal institutions.

With this order, all offices and programs centered around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion must be shut down and all federal employees in DEI positions will be placed on leave.

Some federal agencies are attempting to change titles and job descriptions to get around Trump’s directive, but we will make sure to expose them! DEI must DIE.

Third, President Trump has issued Executive Orders declaring an emergency on the southern border, labeling cartels as foreign terrorist groups, and ending birthright citizenship.

Just in the last few days, Donald Trump has sent more than 1,500 US troops to secure the southern border and began raids across the country to apprehend dangerous criminal illegals.

Is anyone else getting tired of winning yet? We’re not!

    Image

We have been hyper-focused on exposing the dangers that illegal aliens pose to Americans. We’ve made sure to shed light on institutions that are pushing radical gender ideology on your children and forcing men into women’s private spaces. We’ve exposed the vast culture of woke DEI policies that’s infected every facet of government.

And now, that hard work is paying off.

Under President Trump, America has achieved more wins in a week than we did under the entire presidency of Joe Biden.

But our job isn’t over yet. We must ensure gender ideology and DEI are GONE FOR GOOD. There is still more work to do!

We will continue to expose the corruption and harmful ideologies that threaten the American people. And with Trump back in office, we’ll rake in even more epic wins!

Have a great weekend and buckle up for 4 years of win after win!

  • Steve’s hardest combo is technically very rewarding but you’ll probably have to break your controller… and your hands to perform it

Minecraft’s Steve is considered to be the undisputed best character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Of course, it took a good while for players to be able to truly appraise the challenger’s potential, but he can be a real problem when played by those patient enough to main him.

Fortunately for the rest of us, some of Steve’s more absurd interactions are made inaccessible due to human limitations. Kinoko_SMB recently posted what is believed to be Steve’s most difficult combo, though it’s unlikely we’ll ever see it performed in a real match.

From its appearance, the combo actually seems fairly straightforward. All Steve is really doing here is comboing his down tilt repeatedly. However, there’s actually a lot more to it than that.

Steve’s down tilt technically counts as a projectile so it actually behaves independently of what Steve is doing. The animation and recovery frames for this move is being cancelled by blocks. The block disappears, which prompts Steve to quickly generate a new one.

Since blocks are spawned based on a grid system, Steve has to stand at a precise area so that he’s basically standing on the edges of two grid squares. This will minimize how much Steve will have to move around to spawn a block right as one vanishes.

While all of this might seem simple, Kinoko_SMB notes that this was done in the training room at 25% speed. The clip itself is sped up to be four times faster as to showcase what it would look like at a normal game’s pace.

In other words, you’d probably have to break your controller and hands to actually pull off this combo. Check it all out below:
