  • New fan-made ‘Floyd Tracker’ keeps tabs on your progress and helps you find the mysterious Mortal Kombat 1 ninja

The quest to find Floyd in Mortal Kombat 1 has been an interesting one. This mysterious, Pink Floyd-inspired ninja was stealthily slipped into the game as a secret fight with the recent update that also added Conan the Barbarian as a DLC fighter, and ever since this patch players everywhere have been actively on the hunt to encounter and defeat the hidden warrior.

What started out as vague hints found within the game files has now evolved into a full-blown Floyd tracker. The fan and modder behind the original hints and spreadsheet, TheThiny, has now created a tool that keeps tabs on your progress in searching for Floyd, gives you hints at what to try next, and aims to streamline the process for those still trying to make the encounter happen.

Thiny’s Floyd Tracker is currently live and begins with you simply inputting your platform username and selecting the platform you’re playing on. From here, the page will open up and provide you various statistics and details such as your win/loss record against Floyd (if you’ve already found and fought him, obviously), how many fights remain before you can expect to see him pop out and give you a clue, what challenges you should try next, and more.

“The Floyd tracker is now Live!” Thiny wrote on Twitter. “Enter your platform username and Track your progress. It will give you clues on what to try next. For Xbox / switch please use your WBID.

“Let me know if it crashes or doesn’t work! Hope it helps “

When it comes to Floyd in Mortal Kombat 1, players have a total of 37 different challenges that they could be tasked with. Of those 37, there will be 10 specific ones you’ll need to find and complete (which are different for everyone), and upon doing so, you will bring out Floyd for the opportunity to fight him.

If you do manage to encounter Floyd, you’ll have three chances to take him down before you’re out. After an encounter is over, win or lose, the set of 10 challenges you need to complete will reset and you’ll have a different batch to figure out and complete.

This Floyd Tracker tool is designed to help you keep track of which challenges you need to get done, how many you’ve already completed, and basically give you a better idea of where you’re at. There is very little on this front that’s actually in-game, so if you’re still searching for Floyd or just want to try and find him again, the Floyd Tracker should prove very useful.

But it is also worth keeping in mind that this tracker tool is brand new and still actively being worked on and improved.

  • Capcom finally breaks silence on lack of new costumes in Street Fighter 6, confirms they have been in development since last year

Capcom has just released a statement on the current state of additional costumes for Street Fighter 6. After a long silence on this front and tons of fan feedback and demand, the company has now provided a full update on the situation.

The statement confirms that new costumes are currently in development for the playable characters on the Versus side of the game (Fighting Grounds). They also give a reason for the delay and talk a bit about how things will be changing with the release of Season 3.

Capcom begins their statement by thanking everyone for their support of Street Fighter 6. They not that the development team is hard at work building and delivering new experiences for players, and with that, they wanted to share some details on what’s to come.

The company states that they are aware of the community’s requests for more playable character costumes for the game’s roster (not avatars), and confirm that the next batch of them has indeed been in development since last year.

They explain that the large delay we’ve seen between Outfit 3’s release and what’s coming next is due to the fact that it takes a lot of development time to make these costumes and release them all at once.

The “all at once” line is particularly interesting as it seems to confirm the theory that Capcom has been aiming for a costume release plan more similar to Street Fighter 4 where there were big gaps in between batches, but every character on the roster would get one at the time of release. This heavily differs from what we saw in Street Fighter 5 where 3-4 costumes would be launched for specific characters every few months or so, which led to the amount of costumes certain (more popular) characters received being heavily lopsided.

Also interesting, is that Capcom says that these new Street Fighter 6 costumes will begin releasing gradually starting this Summer.

Capcom also provided an update on how they intend to do things going forward when it comes to Fighting Passes. Beginning in Season 3, they will be changing things up and are planning on adding more items with each pass that can be used in Fighting Ground mode (the various versus modes).

You can read Capcom’s full statement below.

Thank you very much for all the support and playing Street Fighter 6. The team is working hard on delivering new experiences, and we would like to inform you about some upcoming content plans.

We’ve seen the requests from the community and would like to share that we’ve been working on new Fighting Ground character outfits since last year. However, please note it’s difficult for us to release every character outfit all at once due to the amount of time it takes to develop them. We plan to begin releasing them gradually starting this summer.

Regarding future Fighting Passes, we have been reassessing their contents and the frequency of their release, and will be making changes starting in Year 3 – with the goal of increasing the amount of items within each Fighting Pass that can be used in Fighting Ground.

Rest assured, we will continue to put our best efforts into ongoing development and service operations for Street Fighter 6. Thank you so much for your continued support!

    Sincerely,

The Street Fighter 6 Development Team

  • One of Street Fighter’s most popular characters disappeared and can no longer exist, but director says you never know what will happen

Kage (Evil Ryu) often shows up towards the end of the Street Fighter game’s DLC releases

Eviler Ryu, better known as Kage (Shadow) made his debut in Street Fighter 5 in late 2018, infamously showing up in advance of Capcom actually announcing him. He’s the embodiment of the Satsui No Hado that Ryu was able to exorcise, making him the first canonical version of Evil Ryu we’ve ever seen in Street Fighter.

According to Street Fighter 6’s director, Takayuki Nakayama, Kage is said to have disappeared in his story in the prior game, and can no longer exist because Ryu finally overcame the Dark Hado, but… given that this is the world of Street Fighter, you never know who will resurface, after all, Gen seemingly died previously, but is still alive and well.

“Kage is supposed to have disappeared in his story in Street Fighter 5,” Nakayama wrote on X. “Kage can no longer exist because Ryu overcame the ‘Satsui no Hado’. But the funny thing is you never know what will happen,” Street Fighter 6’s director said.

Since the non-canonical version of Evil Ryu was first made playable in 1996 in Street Fighter Alpha 2, he’s become one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise, consistently appearing around the top of the popularity charts in Street Fighter 5, and being a very common character in the Street Fighter 4 tournament scene.

Being based on the franchise’s poster boy certainly doesn’t hurt his approval rating, either.

Given his global popularity and the fact that he’d have to be added as a DLC, e.g. purchasable character, means Capcom has plenty of incentive to add this fighter into the game at some point, as he’d likely end up as a very popular fighter once again, and lead to increased sales to help support Street Fighter 6.

Evil Ryu was one of the final characters added to Street Fighter 4, back when he was officially unveiled in 2010, and was added in Season 4 of the prior game, with Street Fighter 5 wrapping up all of its DLC releases in Season 5.

As such, if we see Kage/Evil Ryu return as a DLC combatant, it’s likely he’ll be added towards the end of Street Fighter 6’s lifespan, like he was in the last two games.

  • Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O Version 1.01 patch notes

After years of waiting, Virtua Fighter has finally and officially launched on the PC earlier this week, and Sega apparently has more planned for the game still.

Sega has now released the patch notes for Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.’s upcoming Version 1.01 update.

According to their official post, VF5 on Steam is set to receive a handful of changes that’ll largely be aimed at improving the online experience a bit.

A matchmaking range function is being added as well as disabling some effects for ranked matches that should presumably help them run better.

It seems that Sega will also be targeting potential cheaters / hackers in the patch too.

There unsurprisingly doesn’t appear to be any balance updates here considering the game just came out and is already an altered version of Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown that released on the PlayStation 4 a few years ago.

Like that version, R.E.V.O. also received the Tekken and Yakuza DLC packs available to purchase now as well.

You can check out the current list of patch notes for the update coming to VF5 below though Sega isn’t saying when exactly it will go live for players besides that it’s coming in the “near future.”

    • Introduced “Matching range” to matchmaking settings
     - Options: “Same Area” and “Worldwide.”

    • Some effects are now skipped for Ranked rematches

    • Adjusted the default volume for first-time game launches

    • Handling accounts on the Ranking with fraudulent values

    • Other minor bug fixes

  • MultiVersus to end service in May, Season 5 will be the last hurrah for the game

There were rumors that recently appeared claiming that MultiVersus would not be making it past its first birthday and looks like those are actually ringing true.

Player First Games just announced that their Warner Bros. crossover platform fighter is going to be ending service in May after one final season of new content.

Season 5 of MultiVersus is set to begin on February 4, 2025, and contain Looney Tunes’ Lola Bunny and DC’s Aquaman as the last new DLC characters for the game.

Both of the characters will be earnable through gameplay because starting today, players can no longer by Gleamium or premium content unless they use the balance already on their accounts.

All of the game’s online features will remain available until the shutoff time of May 30, 2025 at 9 a.m. PST when online multiplayer and everything else will disappear.

But players will still retain access to the game and all of their earned content, however, through a local version of MultiVersus that’ll remain available to play offline against AI or friends.

The unfortunate news comes after MultiVersus originally launched back on May 28, 2024 when it already went dark for a year following its open beta — so the game will barely make it to their first official birthday.

During its beta period, MultiVersus smashed the fighting game concurrent player record on PC with over 150,00 active users in a feat that no one has been able to replicate since — not even themselves with the official release though they did have a strong start.

But the proposed Super Smash Bros.-killer never really got its footing in the financial returns, which ultimately likely sealed their fate.

The launch of MultiVersus reportedly lost Warner Bros. upwards of $100 million last year, and things never really improved from there.

Despite its promise, MultiVersus failed to maintain its footing and develop a sustainable competitive scene that never cracked into the mainstream fighting game community in a way that could come close to Smash though WB never even tried running a pro circuit for their game.

Much of its faults likely fall on the publisher’s monetization practices and decisions that would often see singular costumes priced at over $15, which obviously didn’t work out very well.

You can find the full statement from the development team below.

    Hi everyone,

We have an important update to share regarding MultiVersus. After careful consideration, our next Season will serve as the final seasonal content update for the game. MultiVersus Season 5 will begin on February 4, 2025, and run through May 30, 2025, adding two new playable characters to the roster – DC’s Aquaman and Looney Tunes’ Lola Bunny. All new Season 5 content, including Aquaman and Lola Bunny, will be earnable through gameplay. Both new characters will be accessible when Season 5 begins on February 4 at 9 a.m. PST – Aquaman via the Battle Pass as the first tier reward and Lola as the daily calendar login reward.

All online features will continue to be available until Season 5 concludes on May 30 at 9 a.m. PST. At that point, there will be an option to play MultiVersus offline via the local gameplay mode, either solo against A.I. opponents or with up to three friends. To do this, you’ll need to install/download the latest version of the game and log in during Season 5, any time between February 4 at 9 a.m. PST and May 30 at 9 a.m. PST. After logging in, a local save file will be automatically created connected to your PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account, allowing you to enjoy the game offline with all earned and purchased content moving forward.

As of today, January 31, real money transactions will no longer be available for MultiVersus, which means you can no longer purchase Gleamium, but you can still use remaining Gleamium or character tokens to access in-game content until Season 5 ends on May 30 at 9 a.m. PST. Additionally, when Season 5 finishes, the game will no longer be available to download via the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store.

Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.

We hope that you all enjoy the final Season of MultiVersus. For more information, please visit our Season 5 FAQ or follow our social/community channels.

  • Tekken and Yakuza Collaboration DLC packs now available in Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.

Should bring it in line with the PlayStation version content

After basically a decade away, Virtua Fighter has returned, and the current step of its comeback before releasing a new entry is to finally head to PC (and throw in rollback netcode).

Sega launched Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. on Steam earlier this week, and the crossover collaboration DLC is also now available to purchase.

The first comes from another Sega property with of course Yakuza since the new version of VF5 was also developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio.

Yakuza’s Collaboration Pack lets players dress up the roster like the beat ’em up / RPG series including Akira as Kiryu across 19 character costumes.

It also feautures 650 customization items, 20 tracks of Yakuza music, 20 Virtua Fighter 3 arranged tracks and 40 stamps.

Similarly the Tekken Collaboration Pack brings in costumes and items from Bandai Namco’s pillar of 3D fighting games.

19 Tekken character costumes, 20 Tekken 7 tracks, a Tekken battle user interface, and 2 Tekken titles.

Plus, there’s the Virtua Fighter Legendary Pack in the store too adding classic and retro Virtua Fighter costumes and items.

These DLC sets are the same as what was released in Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, so that should bring the different versions mostly in line with each other content wise.

VF5 R.E.V.O. by itself is only $16 until February 3, but it’s going to cost a good bit more to get all of the DLC.

All three of the packs are $10 each, so that would be $30 extra even if you get the bundle.

Sega is also selling the VF5 30th Anniversary Edition for $40 until next week that comes with the game, Yakuza pack, Legendary pack and extra DLC like swimsuits — though it seems the Tekken pack unsurprisingly still needs to be picked up separately.

You can find our quick look review for VF5 R.E.V.O. here and more images / information about the DLC packs below.

  • Mai Shiranui update server maintenance date and time for Street Fighter 6 announced

Next week will finally mark the arrival of Street Fighter 6’s next DLC character. SNK guest fighter Mai Shiranui is gracefully entering the battle as one of the game’s playable characters, and she’ll be released on Wednesday, February 5.

Before she can official launch, however, Capcom will have to run their routine server maintenance to make way for the new update. The company just announced the dates and times for when the maintenance period will run indicating when you’ll be able to play as Mai in Street Fighter 6.

As you might expect, the server maintenance period is scheduled for the night before Mai’s release. On Tuesday, February 4, the servers will go offline so that Capcom can make the necessary preparations for the update.

For those in the Pacific time zone, you can expect to see the servers taken offline starting at 8 p.m. PT. They are expected to return at midnight.

Here is the full breakdown of the upcoming server maintenance, as well as some further notes from Capcom about what to expect during this time.

    Maintenance Period

    Tuesday, February 4 | 8 p.m. – 12 a.m. PST

    Tuesday, February 4 | 11 p.m. – 2 a.m. EST

    Wednesday, February 5 | 4 a.m. – 8 a.m. UTC

    Wednesday, February 5 | 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. JST

    Caution

    – The maintenance period may change.

    – All online content cannot be used as players cannot log in during the maintenance period.

    – Regardless of their availability periods Challenges, Fighting Pass, Shop, etc. cannot be accessed during the maintenance.

In addition to Mai being added as a playable DLC character, Capcom has also revealed that several quality of life changes will come packed with this coming update.

One of the most significant changes coming to Street Fighter 6 next week is the addition of new ranks for ranked matches. Players will be able to grind to become High Master, Grand Master and Ultimate Master rank, and there will also be a new set of points to collect that will lead to unlocking goodies such as new colors.

Capcom is also adding a “Match Restore” option for Custom Room bouts that, should a match disconnect unexpectedly, competitors will be able to restore it at the start of the round where the drop happened. After the update, players will also be able to review recent replays right after a match ends in both ranked and casual.

Street Fighter 6’s single player World Tour mode is getting an improvement as well. After Mai is added, players will be able to better locate and understand how to become the Master characters’ pupils right from the start by checking the Status menu.

  • Justin Wong struggles with seemingly easy Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. input which involves ‘scraping the edge’ of one of the buttons

I don’t think the stream chat advice is working…

Justin Wong is one of fighting games’ greatest legends and is not only proficient in Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom games, but also pretty much any game he really puts his mind to. With that having been said, it appears that Justin’s experience with the Virtua Fighter series is limited, and in one of his latest videos the extremely accomplished fighting gamer / content creator sat down to try and learn the new Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. title.

What’s great about Justin is that he not only celebrates his achievements, but is also able to laugh and take a lighthearted approach to his blunders. His latest video sees him lean into one such blunder as the legend struggles to perform a seemingly simple input in VF5, and despite the stream chat trying their best to help, it seems this particular move bodied our dear friend JWong.

Now, the Virtua Fighter series is well known for being very simple on the surface, but extremely difficult to master. Though the game only consists of three real buttons — punch, kick, and guard — and there are no real traditional fighting game special moves here, the depth and execution it requires at higher levels are no joke.

In Virtua Fighter, even what appears to be a simple input can be very difficult to not only perform once, but do it consistently in the heat of battle. Justin Wong encountered one of these attacks, and of all places to find it, he found it within the move set of the game’s main protagonist and poster boy, Akira.

Justin released a clip on Twitter showing his experience with Akira’s Teishitsu Dantai move. In order to successfully pull off this maneuver, all you have to do is hit the kick and guard button, but the game notes that you must release guard after just one frame.

While working through what is essentially combo trials for Akira’s move list, which notifies you when you’ve done a move properly and allows you to move on to the next, Justin came across this attack and was pretty quickly stumped. Despite it appearing as though he was doing the move correctly, he could not progress further.

What follows is a lot of failed attempts and a lot of expletives being yelled at the screen as JWong continues to try to pull off this mind bender of a move. At one point, the stream chat gets involved and tries to offer advice on how to do it, and that advice basically instructs Justin to “scrape the edge” of the guard button to do the move properly.

“Scrape the edge of the guard button?! That’s crazy! Scrape the edge?! What the **** does scrape the edge mean?!” Justin yells out in frustration.

Justin Wong says that Akira is hard to learn in Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., even for him, and that the Teishitsu Dantai took him about an hour to actually get it right.

There’s a lot more to the video as Justin jumps into ranked matches and slugs it out with the online competition. You can check out the hilarious K+G clip below, and be sure to watch the full video just underneath that.

  • This 1/6 scale Mai Shiranui figurine is an impressive sight but it will cost more than playing as her in Street Fighter 6

Amakuni is releasing a Mai Shiranui figurine based on her appearance in The King of Fighters 15 over on Big Bad Toy Store. Those interested will have to wait a good while as she isn’t estimated to arrive until December 2025.

Incidentally, Mai Shiranui is slated to join Street Fighter 6 on February 5, 2025. Though she can be acquired individually within that game for about $6.99, the figurine of her will cost a lot more than that.

Per the listing, she’s apparently worth $189.99. Not only is that more expensive than her DLC in Street Fighter 6, but that’ll cost more than the base game of Street Fighter 6 and all of its DLC characters.

Regardless, the figurine is said to be of a 1/6 scale. She’s measured at 10.63 inches. It’s said that she’s highly detailed.

Of course, fans can also acquire the alternate color version of Mai Shiranui based on her second player appearance in The King of Fighters 15. Like the original, this is also being priced at $189.99.

Ultimately, you’d have to be a pretty dedicated fan to be willing to shell out that much money for this commodity. Of course, those that do will have quite the sight to behold on a daily basis.

  • Additional Mai Shiranui footage has her taking on JP, Terry Bogard, and Chun-Li in Street Fighter 6

Mai Shiranui is set to join Street Fighter 6 on February 5, 2025. As the second Fatal Fury guest character, she’s bringing with her a completely unique playstyle to Street Fighter 6.

LegacyOfKaiser recently released footage we haven’t seen yet that showcases what Mai can do in the JP, Terry Bogard, and Chun-Li match ups. During these three videos, all characters are controlled by the CPU set to the level 7 difficulty settings.

Early into the match against Terry Bogard, we’re reminded that Mai’s fans won’t be all that effective in fireball wars. Despite Terry spending no meter on his Power Wave projectile, it ended up going straight through Mai’s fan projectile.

On the other hand, these fans can be used to create some pretty gnarly frame trap situations. Under the right conditions, these fans will bounce off the opponent’s guard and then return for a second strike.

However, Mai seemingly is at her most dangerous after using her level 1 super art. Once this condition is fulfilled, she’ll gain access to five flame stocks that can be spent to enhance her attacks until the end of the round.

In the video against Chun-Li Mai can also be seen wearing a turquoise-colored version of her default costume. Evidently, this is one of the colors players can select when playing as Mai.
