  • Sub-Zero never came to MultiVersus but he just got announced for Fortnite

Warner Bros. had their own big crossover game in MultiVersus that Mortal Kombat inexplicably never came too, and now the game is about to close up shop.

But said Mortal Kombat characters are about to come to Fortnite. Well, at least one of them is.

Sub-Zero is going to be the new big crossover skins coming to the free-to-play shooter’s latest season that’s remained popular for we don’t even know how many years now.

The blue ninja seems to be the only real crossover pictured here too for chapter 6 season 2 unless the girl in purple is supposed to be Batgirl or we’re missing something else.

This of course isn’t the first time we’ve seen fighting game characters in Fortnite with Street Fighter’s Ryu and Chun-Li along with Sakura and corporate Blanka.

As for the fire to Sub-Zero’s ice, there is a skin already in Fortnite named Scorpion, but it’s not for the yellow ninja — though you know he’s never really far behind.

It’d be cool if Sub-Zero will also bring with him some ice-themed events to the game too, but we’ll be learning more about the update in the near future.

  • Bring your Super Smash Bros. Melee setup and CRT on the train with you says Amtrak apparently

Over the years, we’ve seen plenty of companies and corporations try and show that they’re down with the “gamers” though not so much like this.

Amtrak — yes the train company — is apparently just fine with you smashing up their cars… just in the Super Smash Bros. kind of way.

Smash player Smyles pointed out how the Amtrak website specifically mentions Super Smash Bros. Melee and CRT TVs in an odd and intriguing gesture.

“Go ahead and bring that extra CRT for the Smash Melee tournament or an extra dual screen monitor setup — you would be far from the first.”

Yes again, that’s a real line from Amtrak’s “Travel for Gamers” page that also mentions sitting in the backseat with your Nintendo Switch while your parents drive — so there’s a few generational gaps there.

Technically speaking, a passenger train would probably be the safest way to move equipment, especially things like CRTs, from one location to another over cars and airplanes.

The logistics usually just don’t work out for multiple reasons including the need to use a van or truck to get the equipment to and from the train anyway.

And there’s also the ultimate drawback of passenger trains like this being unavailable to most in the United States outside of a handful of select cities.

We wouldn’t recommend taking your CRT on the public transit either since that’ll open up the risk of it getting kicked or worse.

The Smash line itself, however, is so specific it pretty much has to come from someone in the know of the competitive community if not actually in it.

Typical public relations and description writers are not going to know that Smash Melee tournaments are still a thing let alone that they (at least up until more recent years with better converters) relied heavily on older TVs.

    So we see you Amtrak.

I just literally can’t ride one of your trains without driving hundreds of miles first, but free Wi-Fi, extra space and plug-ins do sound a bit more appealing than flying.

We’d certainly be interested too to know how many people have brought CRTs and big FGC equipment on these trains before.

  • Tekken 8 wins Fighting Game of the Year at Dice Awards 2025, second time Tekken has won the award in 23 years

It’s been revealed that Tekken 8 has won the Fighting Game of the Year at the Dice Awards 2025 ceremony. Tekken 8 managed to win over Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, Blazing Strike, and Underdogs.

Notably, this is the second time that the Tekken series has ever won this award. The only other time occurred 23 years ago with Tekken 4. Back then, the other nominees were Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, and Virtua Fighter 4.

The representative for Bandai Namco shared a few words about the future of Tekken 8 as he collected the award on behalf of the development team.

“We’ve taken bold steps by resurrecting legendary characters. And we’re thrilled by having a lot more content to come for Tekken 8. This year, we also had our best Tekken World Tour.

“The message we’re going to send to our community is that this is just the beginning. There’s a lot more to come for Tekken 8 and we can’t wait to share it with you.”

Of course, odds are fairly high that Anna Williams will be joining the roster in Season 2 based on what we saw in the recent trailer. We also recently shared five classic characters that we’re hoping to see at some point now that Season 2 is getting close.

  • Two-time Capcom Cup champion MenaRD issues challenge to the legendary Daigo Umehara and The Beast responds

If you’re a fan of competitive Street Fighter, there’s no way you haven’t heard the name Daigo Umehara. He’s the most legendary player in the whole fighting game community with a career spanning more than three decades at this point and has proven his skill in fighting games more times than most of us could ever count.

Similarly, any fan is also very well aware of Saul Mena, more commonly known by his moniker MenaRD. Coming from an at the time underrepresented region in the competitive fighting game space, the Dominican Republic, to win Capcom Cup in 2017 to put his nation on the map he went on to keep winning for years and finally grabbed a second Capcom Cup championship at the end of Street Fighter 5 for its final Capcom Cup. Well, this morning, we’ve seen an interaction between these two players that is exciting, to say the least…

A few hours ago, MenaRD took to X to write out a lengthy letter to BST|Daigo, explaining his reverence for the legendary player and his willingness to fight him on his home turf, so to speak — long sets.

For the longest time, it’s been known that even if you may be able to beat Daigo Umehara in a regular tournament format, trying to best him in a first-to-10 is an entirely different beast.

Classic exhibitions were held in Street Fighter 4 against Evo champions of the time, GG|Xian and Infiltration, back in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Later, Daigo’s very own event Kemonomichi had him battling against his long-time rival Rohto|Tokido in Street Fighter 5, famously culminating in Tokido being reduced to tears at his loss.

His prowess in these longer sets have even been compared to DC Comics Batman, a character who’s often cited to be able to win against any super-powered being within his own canon our outside of it, as long as he has enough “prep time”. Indeed, “prep time Daigo” seems to be on the same level of unmatched skill.

This is something MenaRD is well aware of, beginning his message to Daigo by saying ” I want to confess that I firmly believe you are the best ever at preparing for long sets in Street Fighter”, following up by remarking “It would be the greatest honor of my career if I had the opportunity to fight you in a first to 10.”

Despite the storied career that MenaRD already has at the still very young age of just 25 years old, MenaRD clearly feels that there’s still more he needs to do in Street Fighter, with the fabled “prep time Daigo” being his current goal.

There’s no intention of pressuring Daigo in this message, as MenaRD clarifies that it doesn’t have to be anytime soon, but that he wishes to have this set up at some point in the future and hopes that Daigo will accept his challenge when and if he feels would be a good time for him.

MenaRD’s message was clearly originally written in English and has later been translated to Japanese, and its original intent can be found in his post below.

Of course, it didn’t take long before Daigo saw this message and during streaming, he reads through it and ponders it for a few moments.

After his silence, Daigo remarks, translated from Japanese by myself: “I see. Alright. Let’s do it, sometime.”, perhaps the most casual response imaginable but also very in-character for Daigo.

His stream chat goes wild at the remark and after a few more seconds of silence, Daigo’s next followup is to say in a joking manner “Tokido isn’t watching, so it’s fine”.

You can see Daigo’s response below, as clipped by HiFight.

The prospect of a long set between Daigo Umehara and MenaRD is an enticing one, to say the least. While the stated time is “sometime in the future”, now that the possibility has been raised we’ll most likely see it happen for Street Fighter 6 within the next year or perhaps next few years.

What are you hoping to see from such a grand exhibition? Let us know in the comments.

  • City of the Wolves still remain unknown, who could they be?

We’re getting closer and coser to the release of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and while we’re still not entirely sure of what the 17-character launch roster will look like, I made my case last week for which characters I believe will round it out.

Outside of the launch roster, there’s another burning question at the forefront of our minds — the Season Pass DLC roster. We’ve already been told that two of the slots are guest characters Ken Masters and Chun-Li from Street Fighter, but what about the remaining three? Well, there’s some room to discuss that, so let’s get into the nitty gritty.

For the purposes of my speculation in this article, I’m going to refrain from expecting any more out-of-company guest characters like Ken and Chun-Li. To me, that seems to be a pure exchange between Capcom and SNK for this game and Street Fighter 6 and while SNK are certainly no strangers to guest characters in their rosters, I do believe that the rest of this pass will be focused on Fatal Fury characters.

Although there are only three slots available for this season (though reportedly there are more seasons planned already), I’m going to make the cases for some different areas of characters and which ones I think are most likely within those categories.

Although Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is a new Fatal Fury game, there’s no doubt that the aesthetics and general approach of the game is highly tied to the last game in the series, Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

While it might seem like Garou is a different franchise, that is actually not the case. In Japan, the series never changed its name and the title Garou overseas was meant more as a rebranding attempt due to the massive time skip and roster change compared to older Fatal Fury games.

With that said, it’s very clear that although Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is a sequel to the full franchise of Fatal Fury, its aesthetics and general approach is very clearly focused on where Garou: Mark of the Wolves left off and the currently known roster very much reflects that.

The characters who are currently missing from the Garou roster are Kain R. Heinlein, Hokutomaru, Kim Jae Hoon, Grant and Freeman. In my previous article, I articulated why I strongly believe that both Kain and Hokutomaru are actually part of the launch roster, so if I continue to operate from that assumption, that leaves only three.

I’m very certain that we’ll eventually see the full Garou cast in the roster of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, but I doubt all three slots will go to characters from it. To me, the most likely one seems to be Grant due to his strong connection to antagonist Kain, with Kim Jae Hoon being second most likely as an early addition since his brother Kim Dong Hwan has already been revealed as part of the launch roster.

I definitely think that Freeman will eventually be part of the roster, but I also think that he’ll have to wait the longest. He never really stuck out much in Garou: Mark of the Wolves roster, so it would be nice to see SNK put some extra time into revamping him and making him shine.

Fatal Fury is a series with a vast amount of characters spanning its long run. In fact, so many characters originated from Fatal Fury that there are probably a lot of King of Fighters fans that aren’t even aware just how many of the mainstays and popular picks in that franchise actually originally appeared in Fatal Fury.

There are definitely a few deep cut potential picks from Fatal Fury who either rarely or never appeared in King of Fighters, but since SNK are going to be trying to appeal to as many consumers as possible, especially at this early stage of the game, I’m leaning much more towards characters who are also famous through the King of Fighters franchise being picks for Season 1.

The main character I believe we’ll see as soon as possible is Mary Ryan, also known as “Blue Mary”. For all intents and purposes, she’s basically presented as Terry Bogard’s girlfriend even though they never explicitly state that they have that type of relationship.

In the picture above, you can even see that unlike most other Fatal Fury characters, Mary even has a design for the Garou era which was shown in “Memories of Stray Wolves”, a animation project that SNK made for the 15th year anniversary of Fatal Fury. You can see that Mary has different clothes than she’s usually known for and also sports somewhat longer hair than usual.

With this, she’s been clearly established to still be around and a part of Terry’s life even during the time of Garou: Mark of the Wolves, which is significantly later than the other Fatal Fury games. This clearly means you don’t need to present any story reasons for her presence, since she’s already been shown to be around.

Much more so than that, though, Mary is just a really popular character so it’s hard to imagine SNK not capitalizing on that now that they’re making a new Fatal Fury game after over 25 years. Especially since she’s become close to mainstay status in the King of Fighters series, making her very recognizable to fighting game fans in general.

Besides Blue Mary, another character I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see is Ryuji Yamazaki. A frequent cast member in King of Fighters, he’s almost always paired together with Billy Kane on teams as Geese Howard’s underlings and since we already know Billy is back for Garou, Yamazaki may not be too far away either.

Yamazaki also has his origins in Fatal Fury, actually debuting together with Blue Mary back in Fatal Fury 3. His long-standing enmity with Terry is more than enough reason for him to show up and cause some havoc even if Geese stays gone.

Speaking of Geese, one of the most obvious picks that we have to talk about is the prospect of reviving Geese Howard. Although he’s been dead in Fatal Fury for a very long time (King of Fighters is actually something of a parallel universe, you see), death doesn’t seem to be very in-fashion lately with last year seeing both Street Fighter and Tekken reviving their respective big bads, M. Bison and Heihachi.

Even if SNK don’t want to tread on their old lore by making Geese return fully, there’s always the option of including Nightmare Geese, a more zombie-esque version of Geese who has been seen in SNK games in the past as a representation of the enduring presence of Geese within the memories of the people he hurt.

Another option if SNK would rather not delve into Geese himself is to bring in someone related to him — his half-brother, Wolfgang Krauser. Originally a boss character, Krauser mostly appears to try and one-up his brother, but even with Geese gone you can still dive in to similar motivations since Rock Howard is still a central character.

Krauser is a complex character who has a very dark and corrupt side to him but also a high pride in his lineage and status as a nobleman, so you could either go with him wanting to crush Rock just because he reminds him of his hated Geese, or conversely have a redemption arc for Krauser where he tries to redeem their family line through Rock so he doesn’t turn out like Geese did.

There’s a lot of possibilities here and they honestly spring eternal the deeper you dive into the old Fatal Fury cast, but these characters stick out to me as ones that have fame from King of Fighters but also deep story ties to what might be going on currently in the Fatal Fury universe.

Obviously, we can’t talk about Fatal Fury representatives who became bigger in King of Fighters without mentioning Kim Kaphwan, but honestly, I don’t know if he’s really necessary as a playable characters if his sons are present. I think having Kim as a supporting NPC to his kids makes more sense for City of the Wolves.

It’d be easy for SNK to just throw Kyo Kusanagi or Iori Yagami into the game and call it a day if they’re just trying to use brand recognition to boost the game, but honestly, if we’re doing in-company guests I’d rather see something that has more ties with Fatal Fury itself.

There’s reportedly a new Art of Fighting game in the works, so borrowing characters from Art of Fighting might seem like a redundant idea in concept, but hear me out. I’m not asking specifically for Ryo Sakazaki as such — I’m asking for Mr. Karate II.

As invested fans may be aware, Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury both take place in South Town, but they are quite far removed from each other on the timeline with Art of Fighting being over a decade earlier than Fatal Fury (remember what I said about King of Fighters being something of an alternate universe?)

On top of that, Garou: Mark of the Wolves serves as another time jump of a decade or so from the original Fatal Fury games, meaning that Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves sits at least 20 years removed from Art of Fighting on the in-universe timeline.

In Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition, a remake of the first Fatal Fury back on the PlayStation 1, there’s actually an unlockable character named Mr. Karate II who is an older, more mature Ryo Sakazaki donning his father’s old identity from the Art of Fighting games.

This rendition of Ryo at his full potential has always been extremely cool to me and with Fatal Fury coming back to the limelight, I’d love to see SNK throw him into the ring again.

Even if we do see Ryo all the time in King of Fighters and we’re definitely going to see him front and center for the new Art of Fighting, this would be a Ryo in his late 30s or early 40s who has achieved full mastery of Kyokugenryu Karate and that just sounds… way too epic for me to want to miss out on it.

Honestly, this one is more of a “wish” pick than an expected pick for me, but you’d best believe I am wishing for it.

What about you? Any specific wishes, hopes or expectations for the early DLC picks in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves? Let us know in the comments.

  • We’ve seen serious cosplayers before, but learning pyrotechnics to accurately portray Kyo Kusanagi is on a different level

Cosplay has definitely become a serious business, especially in later years, with many even opting for it as their career choice and putting unbelievable amounts of time into learning the right makeup techniques, sewing their own costumes and doing everything in their power to embody their favorite characters as much as possible.

That in itself isn’t anything new, but every now and again you spot a cosplay which makes you go “wait, really?” and this is one of those times. Although the costume is definitely high quality here, it’s not exactly the clothing that leaves us impressed…

At first brought to our attention over on X by Helsic, this is a video which features a Chinese cosplayer dressed up as the original main protagonist from King of Fighters, Kyo Kusanagi.

After some research it seems like this was originally captured from Chinese video sharing site Billibilli, though even there we weren’t quite able to ascertain the name of the cosplayer himself, unfortunately.

There’s no specific explanation on what went on here in this short clip, but just by watching it Helsic’s summation in his tweet does seem to be the case… this Chinese cosplayer seems to have learned pyrotechnics just to do a more accurate Kyo Kusanagi cosplay.

And honestly? It looks fantastic. This is exactly what I’d imagine seeing Kyo Kusanagi fight in real life would look like, so huge props to this cosplayer for pulling off something so impressive and sharing it with the world. Also big thanks to Helsic for making sure to share it to a bigger audience.

So… anyone want to try their hand at insta-freezing Kula Diamond cosplay next? No?

  • Which Street Fighter 6 characters would you most like to see get a new costume?

Vote in our character costume poll

Capcom confirmed recently that we were getting new costumes for Street Fighter 6, but they unfortunately would not arrive for the entire cast, and wouldn’t be released until the summer time, later this year.

Since we’re not getting costumes for the entire cast, we’ve set up a poll so that the community can vote on which characters they’d most like to see costumes released for, with the ability to vote for 6 out of the 25 current cast members, at one time.

Capcom confirmed previously that they’ve been working on new character outfits since last year, but that it’s difficult for them to release all of the costumes for every cast member at once due to how long it takes to develop them.

Going further, Capcom noted that they’re going to reassess future Fighting Passes in year 3, with the goal of increasing the amount of items within each Fighting Pass that can be used in the game’s Fighting Ground (Versus, Ranked, etc.) modes.

Capcom noted that they’ve been surprised by the data that shows outfit 3 is very popular thus far.

Vote in our poll below, and let us know who you’d like to see costumes made for first among the currently playable cast.

  • New Astro Bot update adds even more fighting game cameos with Tekken characters

People really seem to love them some Astro Bot given the game of the year awards the platformer has received, and now there’s even more to love.

Team Asobi just released a free new level to Astro Bot today with more on the way, and this one includes something special for Tekken fans too.

The game filled to the brim with characters and references to PlayStation’s 30-year history, and the additional stage keeps that going with its reward.

Astro Bot’s Tick-Tock Shock level allows players to rescue the one and only Heihachi Mishima in his Tekken 8 attire after completing it, but he’s not alone either.

The Gacha Lab also added a smaller Kuma as the “unbearably cute Junior Bodyguard,” and he can also fart too.

This is far from the first fighting game cameo we’ve seen among the dozens and dozens of characters included in Astro Bot.

Ryu and Ken from Street Fighter, Kazuya from Tekken, Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske from Guilty Gear have all appeared previously, so perhaps we’ll have even more later too.

Team Asobi plans to release new Astro Bot levels every week starting from today through March 13 and presumably more references packed into each.

You can check out the new level and acquiring Heihachi plus Kuma below if you don’t care about spoilers thanks to Royston Dooley.

  • Capcom Cup 11 Group Draw Event and placements for Street Fighter 6

It’s almost finally that time of year again where the second Street Fighter 6 world champion is crowned, but there’s a stressful game of chance that needs to be played out first.

The Capcom Cup 11 Group Draw Event is taking place tonight, February 13, starting at 6 p.m. to determine how the brackets will shake out in the quest for the $1 million prize.

There are 48 players still in the running from all around the world, and each of them will need to be placed in a group to know who they’ll be fighting in the first stage, which can also decide ways the tournament will ultimately play out.

Each group will be comprised of 6 players for a total of 8 sections.

The top 2 of each move on to form a final top 16 bracket after completing a round robin first to 2 format to determine their group standings.

It seems there’s always at least one “death group” where multiple frontrunners end up together, but that’s bound to happen almost any way you look at it with 48 of the best SF6 players in the world all in one pool.

In the game itself, Capcom is running a Street Voter event to pick your favorite to win Capcom Cup, which you can also vote on in our own polls for it too.

Streaming will be handled by Capcom Fighters, which you can watch along with here, and we’ll be updating the groups as they are announced.

  • Get most Capcom fighting games ever in huge new Humble Bundle, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection on sale for all systems

It seems Capcom is going crazy with the game sales lately. First there was the big publisher sale and then the build your own Capcom bundle deal.

Now there’s even more with Humble Bundle launching a new Capcom bundle that includes most of the non-crossover fighting games they’ve ever made while also running some other deals on their newer titles.

The Capcom Arcade Classics & Fighters Pack is just as the name suggests since it contains 70 items / titles.

And the best part is, it’s only $20 (unless you want to donate more).

That’s basically every Street Fighter which has an official PC version (sorry EX fans) from the original all the way through the Alpha series, Ultra Street Fighter 4, Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition and the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection.

It doesn’t come with Street Fighter 6 unsurprisingly, but it does give you a coupon for 50% off the Steam version of the game.

For other fighters, you’ve got the Darkstalkers series, Cyberbots, Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix and more there too though it appears most of them are the Capcom Arcade Stadium versions.

There’s of course pretty much every Capcom beat ’em up and shoot ’em up from the arcade era too like Captain Commando, Final Fight, Knights of the Round and then some other fun classics like Strider and Saturday Night Slam Masters.

This won’t include any of the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 titles obviously.

As part of the leadup to the Evo Awards, Capcom is also discounting the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection across the PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PC by 20% for a limited time again.

That brings the digital price down to $40, but you may be able to find physical copies at retailers for around $30 on the PS4 and Switch too.

And if all that weren’t enough, 2Game is also running deals on some Capcom games including 50% off Street Fighter 6.

So if you can think of it, it’s probably on sale right now somewhere.

The Capcom Humble Bundle is scheduled to last another 27 days, so you’ve got time to make a decision, but don’t wait too long and forget.

You can check out the list of included fighting games in the Humble Bundle below.
