  • Mortal Kombat 2 movie skins for Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Shao Kahn, and Kitana in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns revealed

    Coming later this year…

Earlier today, we were provided our first look at Shao Kahn, Kitana, and Scorpion in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 film. They’ll be portrayed by Martyn Ford, Adeline Rudolph, and Hiroyuki Sanada (returning from the first movie) respectively.

As it turns out, NetherRealm Studios is working on movie skins for these three characters along with Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban. We’ve been provided with a sneak peek at what these costumes will look like within Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns.

Just like with Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 1, Shao Kahn is sporting an appearance that makes him look partially draconic. Fleshy scales can be seen on his arms.

Scorpion is featured with a hood over his head and a mask shielding his face. His dagger and sickle can be seen tied to his waist, but he of course keeps his iconic spear held in his hand at all times.

Kitana looks exactly as one might expect her to look. A side-by-side comparison of Kitana in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns and Adeline Rudolph serves as a stunning match.

Finally, there’s a better look at what we can probably expect from Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage. He’s wearing a brown jacket, a t-shirt, and jeans. Of course, it wouldn’t be Johnny Cage without his sunglasses to go along with the look.

According to NetherRealm Studios, these skins will be released within Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns “later this year.” There aren’t any further details about how long we may have to wait to get ahold of these costumes.

However, it’s worth mentioning that the Mortal Kombat 2 film is set to hit theaters on October 24, 2025. As a result, we expect these skins to be released closer to that time to help promote the movie.

The timing of this announcement is certainly interesting considering some of the rumors regarding the future of Mortal Kombat 1 that have recently surfaced. The T-1000 and Madam Bo are set to become available for Early Access starting tomorrow, but it’s currently unknown if there will be any additional DLC characters added afterwards.

For now, it’s still difficult to tell if this changes anything for a potential “Kombat Pack 3,” but it is at least a little encouraging. In the meantime, we’ll just have to look forward to the release of these costumes to find out what’s going on.

  • First look at Shao Kahn, Kitana and Scorpion revealed for Mortal Kombat 2 film, Mortal Kombat 1 to get movie costumes

Although we’ve yet to see an actual trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat sequel film, there’s now a chance to get a look at some of the new and returning characters that’ll be duking it out on the big screen this year.

The first images of Kitana, Shao Kahn and more have now appeared online for Mortal Kombat 2 while the Mortal Kombat 1 game is also going to get some new content for it too.

Entertainment Weekly just shared a handful of images from the new movie that we haven’t gotten to see before as well as some information of interest to fans.

The most important pieces are the pictures of Shao Kahn and Kitana played by Martyn Ford and Adeline Rudolph respectively.

It’s too dark to tell exactly what’s going on with the Outworld ruler, however, the movie seems to have made his iconic helmet all metal with lower jaw piece included on the face instead of just the upper part that we normally see in the games.

Kitana’s design seems to be taking more from her Mortal Kombat 11 design with the shoulder / chest pads while wielding her signature bladed fans.

We already technically saw Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage in a teaser poster recently, but now we can see him in action next to Liu Kang, Jax and Sonya too.

And then the final image confirms Hiroyuki Sanada is of course returning as Scorpion because he kind of has to.

Unlike the first movie, it seems Mortal Kombat 2 will be focused much more on the actual Mortal Kombat tournament itself.

“They keep score throughout the movie,” said series co-creator Ed Boon. “There’s a visual representation of who is winning… It’s not just a tournament for the sake of a tournament. There are huge consequences, so you really are keeping score. And there are a lot of twists in it that keep you on your toes.”

It also seems Kano and Kung Lao may be coming back through the Netherrealm magic since they confirm both characters are in the new movie along with Quan Chi, played by Damon Herriman.

EW also reveals that “movie-accurate” skins for Johnny Cage, Kitana and Shao Kahn with presumably the actors’ likenesses will be coming to Mortal Kombat 1 sometime this year too.

Mortal Kombat 11 also did something similar with their own movie pack for the original ’90s film, so it’ll be interesting to see if they include new voices too.

This also means that MK1 content won’t be coming to an end with the T-1000 releasing tomorrow, but it’ll remain to be seen if that means we’ll be getting more characters and / or Kombat Pack 3 too.

Mortal Kombat 2 is set to hit theaters on October 24, 2025, and in other fighting game adaptation news, we recently learned Street Fighter is pulling its Director from the Eric Andre Show.

  • City of the Wolves’ main theme released

We’re now just over a month away from the launch of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves’ grand return after 25 years away, and you can get a headstart on rocking out now.

SNK has released a music video for Fatal Fury’s main theme, Chain Reaction, to listen to the complete song.

Somewhat unfortunately, it’s not a big cinematic music video, but rather a more simple, stylized lyric video with screenshots and bits of the game included.

But at least now we can understand all of the words because I totally thought they’ve been saying “I’m running the circle of time” for like a year now.

We’ve of course heard bits of the song too through the character trailers as recently as Kain R. Heinlein, but now we can actually hear the verses and full song beyond the chorus.

“I’m pleased to finally share ‘Chain Reaction’—the main theme of City of the Wolves—with you all, including the full lyrics! I’m very glad to see how quickly the song has caught on with fans and the frequent requests for its full release. Truly befitting this chapter in the saga of the Hungry Wolves, the song was created with the image of both wolves and destiny in mind. I hope you enjoy listening to it while fighting in the streets of South Town!” wrote Fatal Fury’s Sound Director in a message.

If you haven’t already, check out our final impressions for Fatal Fury’s open beta test to see how we’re feeling about how the game is shaping up heading up to release.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is set to release on April 24, 2025 for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

  • Daigo Umehara hilariously describes the ‘unbelievably broken’ balance in Capcom vs. SNK 2 and talks about other older fighters

BST|Daigo Umehara has had a long history with fighting games. Due to his success across a variety of different fighters, Daigo has become a household name.

In a recent video, one of Daigo’s viewers asked him to play Capcom vs. SNK 2, which immediately prompted an amusing response. “No way!” exclaimed Daigo after reading aloud the comment.

Shortly afterwards, Daigo was asked if K-Groove was more broken than the Rolling Cancel, a glitch in Capcom vs. SNK 2 that forever changed the meta.

“So C-Groove, A-Groove, and N-Groove have Rolling Cancel,” explained Daigo. “S-Groove has dodge. Then there’s P-Groove. And K-Groove has ‘just defend.’ So only three grooves can use Rolling Cancel.”

“C-Groove and N-Groove are weaker than K-Groove even with Rolling Cancel,” continued Daigo. “Unfortunately, if there’s no Rolling Cancel, K-Groove is way better than A-Groove. But because there’s Rolling Cancel, A is stronger than K.”

Following this, Daigo described K-Groove as being “Broken! Unbelievably broken!” Needless to say, this said a lot about how ridiculous A-Groove was in Capcom vs. SNK 2 as Daigo mentioned that it was even stronger than K-Groove.

Throughout the video, Daigo had a lot of interesting thoughts to share about some of the older fighting games, including how Street Fighter 2 is his favorite in the Street Fighter series thanks to all the memories he has of it.

  • Gameplay for Super Saiyan Vegeta Mini, Super Saiyan Goku Mini, and Glorio of Dragon Ball DAIMA shown for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero

A little while back, we learned that Goku Mini, Vegeta Mini, and Glorio of Dragon Ball DAIMA were coming to Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero as DLC. Gameplay featuring these characters were shown off earlier today in a new trailer.

As expected, Goku Mini and Vegeta Mini are able to transform into their Super Saiyan states despite being transformed into children. This typically provides a substantial power boost in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, so it’s generally worth doing.

While Glorio doesn’t have a transformation, he is shown augmenting his attacks with magic. One of his cinematic attacks has him manifesting a whip from his magic and then using it against the opponent.

Unfortunately, there’s no sign of Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta and Super Saiyan 4 Goku in the trailer. Perhaps we’ll see these forms added to Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero later on.

Of course, it should also be mentioned that these new transformations were access by Vegeta and Goku respectively while miniaturized and after reverting back to their adult bodies.

According to the trailer, this DLC is set to be launched sometime in April 2025. We’ll just have to keep an eye out for more release information in the future.

  • The T-1000 thinks Conan the Barbarian looks awfully familiar in special Mortal Kombat 1 interaction

NetherRealm Studios are probably the king when it comes to references in fighting games, and they seem to never really miss a beat with all of the big crossovers the team ends up getting in their titles.

There’s been some new footage of the T-1000 following the Kombat Kast for the Terminator this week, and that includes some funny interactions he has with the other guest characters in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns — where one in particular is a bit familiar.

PlayStation shared the special pre-fight intro between the T-1000 and Conan the Barbarian that probably doesn’t have much for wider implications for the world of MK (but is still fun).

Robert Patrick’s character of course notes how Conan the Barbarian appears like his nemesis from Terminator 2.

“You look like the T-800,” the T-1000 simply says.

“T-800, is that another machine?” retorts Conan.

Of course, both characters were played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in their respective movies, and the T-800 previously was included as a guest in Mortal Kombat 11 a few years back.

Unfortunately it’s not a true reunion, however, since both of Arnold’s characters in the games are voiced by Chris Cox instead.

The T-1000 is filled with references to Terminator 2 including three just in his second Fatality alone, and there’s plenty more in his actual move set too.

Madam Bo and the T-1000 are set to hit MK1 next week on March 18 as the last bit of Khaos Reigns content announced for the game.

  • Man who won first official Street Fighter 2 Turbo tournament uses Super Famicom cartridge as business card holder

Nakano Sagat won the first official Street Fighter 2 Turbo tournament back in 1993, which was held at Ryogoku Kokugikan Arena, where Capcom Cup 11 just took place, and next year’s event is scheduled to happen again.

Nakano Sagat has continued to make a name for himself through the years, by finishing in first place at Evo 2019 in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, and he has a really awesome Super Famicom cartridge he uses to hold business cards. The cartridge is of course the 16-bit port of Street Fighter 2 Turbo.

Ryan Hart was able to grab a couple of photos of Nakano Sagat with his trusty Super Famicom Street Fighter 2 Turbo business card holder.

In 1993 at Ryogoku Kokugikan, about 7,000 players were said to have competed in Street Fighter 2 Turbo. Capcom Cup 11 took place a little under 32 years after this original event.

This business card holder is such an awesome way to commemorate the official Street Fighter 2 Turbo national tournament, and a great way to make a first impression.

You can check out the original Street Fighter 2 Turbo tournament held back in 1993 via this clip from Super Lore Boys.

  • Evo 2025 entrant leaderboard revealed with ranks for all 8 mainstage titles

Evo 2025 is of course coming back this Summer as the largest fighting game event of the year, and if the trend continues, it could be the biggest tournament ever.

The organizers for the event just revealed the new entrant leaderboard for Evo 2025 ranking all eight mainstage fighting games being featured including some new and old faces.

They unsurprisingly won’t be sharing the exact number of players who signed up until registration closes in the coming months, but we can get a bit of an idea as to how things are shaping up currently.

Another thing that probably won’t come as a shock is Street Fighter 6 is at the very top, which it’s had since the game released in 2023.

For Evo 2024, the final entrant numbers for SF6 was a whopping 5,265 players, so it’ll be interesting to see if it can match or beat that again.

Tekken 8 is once again in second place for its second year where it pulled in 4,646 players previously for the big event.

Guilty Gear Strive has actually been bumped out of the third slot for a new / returning face to the scene.

It seems the hype for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is real since it has the bronze medal currently for its first Evo outing.

    1. Street Fighter 6

    2. Tekken 8

    3. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

    4. Guilty Gear Strive

    5. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising

    6. Marvel vs. Capcom 2

    7. Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys:Celes

    8. Mortal Kombat 1

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising has also been bumped down a spot because of that too.

Depending on the actual numbers, this year’s classic title Marvel vs. Capcom 2 may not be performing quite as well as 2024’s Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, which managed to bring in just over 1,100 players for an unforgettable bracket.

Under Night In-Birth 2 is down a rank as well from last year, but it’s still not at the bottom.

That honor currently goes to Mortal Kombat 1 in 8th place, which pulled in just 645 competitors for its first Evo.

Considering this is the game’s second year, those numbers may be even lower here in 2025.

Evo 2024 set a record for the most entrants ever at an eSports event in general with over 9,182 unique players, so we’ll see if this year can beat that.

Evo 2025 is set to take place from August 1–3 in Las Vegas, Nevada while there’s also Evo Japan in May, Evo France in October and Evo Singapore at a to be announced time.

  • 14 Street Fighter 6 pros asked what changes they want to see in Season 3 and there’s a few topics that keep popping up in particular

Capcom Cup 11 brought together pretty much all of the best Street Fighter 6 players together under one roof, and of course there’s going to be quite a bit of talking going on among them.

While they were focused on playing the end out of Season 2 of SF6, what of their hopes for Season 3 in the game?

We already discussed Broski’s recent video asking a bunch of SF6 pros for their top 5 characters right now, but that’s not all he did during the downtime at the event.

14 top competitors were also asked by Broski for their most wanted changes for Season 3, and there’s a good bit of overlap in their answers.

SR|NuckleDu, Reject|Angrybird, and WBG|Menard all want throw loops removed from the game, which has been a pretty common ask going back towards the end of Season 1 too.

NL notes, however, that of course if throw loops are gone, Perfect Parry is going to need changed up too otherwise the game would favor defense too much.

NIP|Phenom wants Ken buffs for the memes, but seriously wants a bigger hurtbox on Drive Rushes activations and the removal of some options out of it that make it harder to punish, which Shine, JuicyJoe and Mister Crimson also agree with.

On a similar note, Talon|Hotdog29 would like to see the option of using specials out of Drive Rush removed completely.

Reject|Big Bird is wishing for a wider refresh for SF6, feeling as though the game has become a little stale and samey like changes to Drive Rush and how fast meter recharges.

You can check out the full discussions in Broski’s latest video from the floor of Capcom Cup below.
