  • Street Fighter 6’s director gives updates on Menat and Rose, along with clarifying which power Ingrid uses

Menat’s crystal ball originates from past Capcom fighting game

If you have a thing for Soul Power users, Street Fighter 6’s director, Takayuki Nakayama offered up some updates on Menat and Rose, two fortune tellers who are quite popular among some of the fan base.

He also covered which power Ingrid uses, who was playable in Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, which is included in Capcom Fighting Collection 2, that comes out May 16, 2025.

First off, a user linked up a graphic talking about characters in Street Fighter who use the Satsui No Hado and Psycho Power that included Rose and Ingrid, to which Nakayama clarified.

“Ingrid and Rose don’t use Psycho power. Rose uses Soul power (A similar power Mu no Hado/Power of Nothingness). Ingrid uses another energy,” he said.

From there, the same user mentioned a quote from Ingrid in Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper where she’s talking with M. Bison and says that Psycho Power is her power, pictured below.

“The Street Fighter Alpha 3 story is a bit irregular. [Ingrid] appears in three different games (one of which is unfinished), each with a different background. So what does that mean? ” wrote Nakayama.

Moving on to Rose’s apprentice, things were much more clear, as Menat’s crystal ball was given an origin, and Nakayama also provided a status update for how she’s doing.

“The crystal ball used by Menat is [the] Eye of Ravange. It should be noted that Menat is a disciple of Rose,” Nakayama said.

Red Earth is a 1996 fighting game released by Capcom, which is where Ravange comes from. He’s a boss character in that game, and apparently Menat took his eye for her crystal ball before Street Fighter 5 rolled around.

Staying on the subject of Menat, a user asked how she’s doing in Street Fighter 6’s timeline currently.

“Menat is doing well. She’s still a novice fortune teller,” Nakayama concluded.

You can find out more about how Final Fight and Street Fighter Alpha’s Cody and Guy are doing, along with status updates on numerous other female cast members in the Street Fighter 6 timeline.

  • Server maintenance for Street Fighter 6 happening tomorrow

Server maintenance for Street Fighter 6 is taking place tomorrow, Monday March 31st from 8 p.m. to midnight Pacific time. There’s no official word on what’s being changed in the game, beyond standard maintenance.

The servers are scheduled to be down for a four hour period. For those of you in Japan, the maintenance will happen from April 1st at noon to 4 p.m. and those who are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) can expect the servers to be offline from April 1st at 3 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Capcom warns its fans that it’s possible the maintenance period may change. Also, all online content cannot be used by players, as they cannot log in during the maintenance period, although it’s still possible to start Street Fighter 6 in offline mode.

Elena is expected to have more details released about her soon, but it’s extremely unlikely that she’ll be made available when this maintenance is complete tomorrow, as that would be a completely unexpected and unprecedented move on Capcom’s part.

While this server maintenance may not add anything new to the game, you can read about prior major patch notes below:

  • Player brings his oversized arcade stick… table to Texas Showdown 2025

Texas Showdown 2025 has proven to be an exciting spectacle for fighting game fans. One of the competitors at that event actually brought their dog, a Shiba Inu, which caught everyone’s attention as it almost seemed like the dog was acting as the player’s coach as he played his matches.

However, that wasn’t the only scene that caused those present to do a doubletake upon seeing it unfold. Within the fighting game community, there’s been a bit of a tradition among some of the players in which they try to compete with some of the most absurd controllers that we’ve ever seen.

Although the main games present at Texas Showdown 2025 were Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, and Mortal Kombat 1, there were plenty of other games that featured tournaments in which players could compete in. One of the players competing at the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 tournament being held there was Ranma, who was actually the tournament organizer for the entire event.

Needless to say, Ranma’s arcade stick ended up drawing quite a bit of attention. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to call it an “arcade stick table.”

From the displayed picture, it’s clear that this device is absolutely massive. It’s probably large enough for four people to use it as a table.

According to Ranma, the arcade stick base top actually separates from the base and is able to fit into his hatchback in order to make it… slightly easier to transport.

  • TheMainManSWE ranks the entire Tekken series in a special tier list that has Tekken 8 at the top

TheMainManSWE has recently released a unique sort of tier list on his YouTube channel. Over the course of 30 minutes, he ranks every game in the Tekken series, including spinoffs such as Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Street Fighter X Tekken.

A number of professional players have expressed some dislike of Tekken 8 due to its overemphasis on offense in Season 1. However, it would seem that TheMainManSWE ranks Tekken 8 very highly as he has it at the top of his makeshift tier list.

Aside from Tekken 8, TheMainManSWE’s favorite games in the Tekken lineup include Tekken 7, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, and Tekken 5. He also gives great ratings to Tekken Tag Tournament and Tekken 4.

Although TheMainManSWE has fond memo0ries of the first Tekken Tag Tournament, he does not view the sequel quite as favorably. Indeed, Tekken Tag Tournament is seen at the very bottom of the tier list, marking it as the worst Tekken game.

Street Fighter X Tekken only just barely ranks above Tekken Tag Tournament on this tier list. Some might argue that this game was so bad that it’s the reason why we’re still ultimately waiting on Tekken X Street Fighter.

Ultimately, all 14 Tekken games have been divided up into one of five different tier categories ranging from best, great, good, alright, and worst.

  • Competitor coached by Shiba Inu dog during tournament, Katsuhiro Harada considers cosmetic possibilities for Tekken 8 upon noticing

Texas Showdown 2025 has been ongoing this past weekend. At this event, players are competing for prestige and cash prizes in games such as Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Mortal Kombat 1, Guilty Gear Strive, and more.

Under normal circumstances at an event like this, players generally aren’t allowed to be coached mid set, especially right as the matches are taking place. After all, fighting games are supposed to be about a battle of wits between two players. However, it seems that one particular “coach” was too good of a boy for the tournament organizers to deny…

As highlighted by Dextero, one of the players in attendance at the Tekken 8 tournament was Jamie “IGottaJet” Drake. While the player himself was able to put on quite the performance with his skills, it was actually his coach, Kintaro, that ended up stealing the spotlight.

You see, Kintaro isn’t a person. He’s IGottaJet’s Shiba Inu dog. While IGottaJet competed, his faithful companion was strapped to his back, resulting in the two being inseparable every step of the way.

Needless to say, the commentators poked fun at the fact that IGottaJet actually had a unfair advantage thanks to Kintaro’s coaching advice while he played. At the very least, you have to imagine that any opponent would struggle to maintain their focus on the game itself while there was this cool, well-behaved dog essentially sitting next to them.

From the footage, you can tell that Kintaro is completely content with this situation. There’s a good reason why dogs are often given the label of “man’s best friend.”

Fittingly enough, IGottaJet is a Leroy Smith player. Indeed, this is a character that sometimes calls his own dog, Sugar, to help out with an attack directed at the opponent.

Regardless, IGottaJet is seen giving Kintaro a tasty treat after he wins one of his sets. It would seem that Kintaro is providing excellent coaching to deserve such a reward.

    Check it all out below:

Funnily enough, Katsuhiro Harada has apparently taken notice of the Shiba Inu present at the tournament. Evidently, the scene had quite the impression on Harada.

According to Harada, he’s now considering adding a customization referencing the scene to Tekken 8. While he likely is just joking, this is something that could potentially come to fruition.

  • NetherRealm Studios wanted to put T-1000 in prior Mortal Kombat games, but had technical limitations

‘Kung Fu Hustle’ influenced Madam Bo Kameo Fighter

While noting that guest characters are always a challenge, Nick Nicastro, a design manager for Mortal Kombat 1 at NetherRealm Studios said the team worked very hard to bring the T-1000 to the game as the latest DLC character.

“In the case of T-1000, [it’s] one of the most challenging characters that we’ve worked on, especially as a guest character,” Nicastro told Polygon recently.

“It’s a character that we’ve always wanted to do, even going back to previous games,” Nicastro said. “We really couldn’t in the past; it was just not something that was technically feasible to do in the best possible way until Mortal Kombat 1, where we’ve really made, like, a quantum leap with our engine, tools, and technology.”

The challenges stem from the fact that the T-1000 breaks a lot of the rules of the game, because of its liquid metal body.

“When you hit him with a super move, he has to look like a liquid shape,” said Nicastro. “For every character that hits him with a super, we had to go back and make separate versions of a T-1000 version that looked correct.”

Nicastro said hundreds of people were involved in some capacity in bringing Robert Patrick’s T-1000 to Mortal Kombat 1, when all was said and done.

Throughout the process the team at NetherRealm Studios heavily studied the 1991 live action release of Terminator 2 for reference and to replicate his iconic attacks, but that wasn’t the only movie they studied for this latest content release.

For Madam Bo, the newest Kameo Fighter, the developers tapped the 2004 film, Kung Fu Hustle, to create her dramatic shoe slap attack.

You can find even more details about the T-1000’s creation in Polygon’s interview with Nicastro.

  • Cody still mayor of Metro City, Guy leader of Bushinryu in Street Fighter 6’s timeline

Status updates on Maki and Lucia from Final Fight as well

While Street Fighter and Final Fight exist in the exact same world, we didn’t get to hear a lot about what people like Cody, Guy and the rest of the bunch from the beat ’em up franchise were doing in Street Fighter 6.

Street Fighter 6’s director, Takayuki Nakayama, provided a bunch of updates about these residents of Metro City, you can check out his responses below.

First up, Nakayama was asked what Cody and Guy are up to now.

“Cody is traveling overseas on business (with Guy) while continuing to be the mayor of Metro City,” Nakayama wrote on X. As a follow up, a user wondered if Guy is still cool looking. “He’s still [as] cool looking as ever,” Nakayama said.

Next, someone asked if Guy is still the leader of the Bushinryu clan now that Zeku went off to make the Striders.

“Yes, it is. At least for now (Street Fighter 6’s timeline) Guy is the leader, and he is succeeded by an apprentice named Gou (號), who in turn is succeeded by his son Shou (Ginzu the Ninja),” stated Nakayama.

He was then asked about Maki Genryusai, who made her debut in the 1993 release Final Fight 2, and would later appear in other Capcom fighting games as well.

“She is doing well. She goes back and forth between Japan and Metro City. It seems she has an apprentice she is taking care of.”

Lastly, Nakayama responded about how Lucia’s doing now, which is something we covered previously when we gave a rundown of how a bunch of female cast members are doing in Street Fighter 6’s timeline.

“[Lucia] is, of course, in Metro City. She’s probably eating Instant Noodles again today,” wrote Nakayama.

  • Epic Fortnite trailer showcases Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kitana, and Raiden in action

Back in February, Sub-Zero joined Fortnite as a new skin. It was a sad time for MultiVersus fans, but the addition of Sub-Zero for Fortnite was cool nonetheless.

Just a few days ago, it was revealed that more Mortal Kombat content was coming to Fortnite. Scorpion was outright confirmed while it was heavily implied that Raiden and Kitana were also enroute.

As such, a new trailer has dropped that showcases all the new Mortal Kombat content coming to the game. Of course, this fully confirms that Kitana and Raiden will be joining Scorpion and Sub-Zero as far as Mortal Kombat reps go.

During this trailer, Sub-Zero is seen squaring off against Fortnite original character “Fishstick” in Mortal Kombat’s Living Forest stage. After that, Sub-Zero takes on his old rival Scorpion in what appears to be Mortal Kombat’s The Bridge stage.

When Scorpion performs an uppercut on Sub-Zero, that iconic “Toasty” scene plays out. He then follows up with his Spear special move to pull Sub-Zero back for a finishing move.

After this, we see Kitana and Raiden pulling off some awesome taunts at the Dead Pool and lower part of the Pit stages respectively. All this goes on while that epic Mortal Kombat theme is playing in the background.

  • Masahiro Sakurai couldn’t fulfill this request as development was too far along but promised he’d add the character in the sequel

The Super Smash Bros. franchise has come a long way since its inception. The latest entry in the series, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, features a roster of 86 characters, mostly thanks to its “Everyone Is Here” theme.

Although Super Smash Bros. started as a celebration of Nintendo, it would eventually become a commemoration of gaming in general. As such, many third parties are now selectable within the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster.

Of course, the very first third party guest, Snake from Konami’s Metal Gear, took everybody by surprise when he was announced for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, it turns out that character’s creator, Hideo Kojima, actually made the request to have Snake join the battle during the development cycle of Super Smash Bros. Melee.

“But at that time, we were already deep in development and I was thinking that we weren’t going to be able to get him in there. I told him that it was too bad he hadn’t brought it up earlier, and that was the end of the story.” — Masahiro Sakurai

According to Masahiro Sakurai, Kojima “practically begged” him to make Snake a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Since Kojima was a good friend of Sakurai’s, the request ended up sticking with him, but he didn’t think it was possible at the time.

“Actually what really brought about the Snake character goes back to a conversation I had back when I was developing Super Smash Bros. for GameCube, when Hideo Kojima contacted me and practically begged me to put Snake in the game,” said Sakurai according to a translation by Source Gaming. “But at that time, we were already deep in development and I was thinking that we weren’t going to be able to get him in there. I told him that it was too bad he hadn’t brought it up earlier, and that was the end of the story.”

Later, Kojima was asked about why he “practically begged” Sakurai to put Snake into Smash. Apparently, it was his son that wanted to see one of Kojima’s creations in Super Smash Bros., a game the father and son enjoyed playing together.

“My child likes Super Smash Bros., so we play it a lot together,” said Kojima to a group of interviewers at The Art of Videogames exhibit (via Engadget). “And he told me that there’s no character that you made in that game.”

“My child likes Super Smash Bros., so we play it a lot together. And he told me that there’s no character that you made in that game.” — Hideo Kojima on asking Sakurai to add Snake to Smash

Although it should be mentioned that Kojima also saw other merits in having Snake participate in Super Smash Bros. He figured that this would be a good way to introduce the character to fans that were otherwise unfamiliar with Metal Gear.

“As you know, we did make Twin Snakes, but generally speaking, there hasn’t been a lot of Metal Gear on Nintendo platforms,” continued Kojima. “So from that perspective, I thought it was a good way to expose younger people to this character, Snake.”

This wasn’t the sort of request that Sakurai simply could’ve fulfilled by working a little harder. The development cycle of Super Smash Bros. Melee was particularly harsh on Sakurai’s health as he was devoting everything he had to its completion as he envisioned it.

Indeed, Sakurai had actually worked 13 months straight without a single day off for Super Smash Bros. Melee. He’d work 40 hours, take a four hour nap, then wake up to continue working for the next 40 hours. Needless to say, the experience resulted in Sakurai collapsing suddenly, then he was taken to the hospital.

“When this project came up, because I had been in contact with him back then, we re-initiated talks and decided to put Snake into the game.” — Masahiro Sakurai

Though it’s never been outright stated, there have been implications that if there was ever a sequel to Super Smash Bros. Melee, Sakurai would add Snake to that game. A few years later, Sakurai was asked to oversee the Super Smash Bros. project for the Wii.

Sakurai apparently remembered the request that his friend made of him during the development of the previous iteration. With that in mind, Sakurai sought out Kojima to see if that request was still on the table.

“When this project came up, because I had been in contact with him back then, we re-initiated talks and decided to put Snake into the game,” stated Sakurai.

After Snake was revealed for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it paved the way for other guest characters later in the series, including Sonic the Hedgehog, who was also coincidentally requested of Sakurai (by Yuji Naka) during the development of Super Smash Bros. Melee.

What’s interesting about these occurrences is that they marked some of the few times in which Sakurai would promise that a character would appear in a future entry of Super Smash Bros. (that we know of).

At this point, we’re awaiting the Switch 2 Direct that’s been scheduled for next week on April 2. Could a new Super Smash Bros. entry be announced during this upcoming presentation?

It turns out that Masahiro Sakurai has been working on a secret game project since April 2022. In other words, he’s been working on this game for nearly three years now, but it hasn’t even been revealed yet.

Assuming another Super Smash Bros. is on the horizon, we could see a number of characters that were previously considered added to the roster in the same manner that Snake was. We’ll just have to see how things play out from here.
