  • City of the Wolves charts show which characters topped the leaderboards in the open beta test

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is now less than a month away, but players got their hands on it again a bit early this past week.

Before the second open beta test shut down, AlietteFaye was able to gather the data of the top-ranked players and characters from the trial.

After manually going through the highest 300 ranked player profiles from the beta, there were four characters that stood out among the cast.

Terry Bogard had the most representation interestingly with 58 players in the top ranks followed closely by his protege Rock Howard at 50.

Hotaru Futaba was closely behind them at 46 with Kain R. Heinlein players getting 40 up there.

    B. Jenet and Vox Reaper were the least represented characters at just 16 and 19 respectively.

In terms of character mastery points, however, the Jenet crowd showed up big time at 3,732 while Rock was in second place at 2,890.

These placements may not obviously mean all that much for the final release considering the beta was still missing almost half of the cast, and there may be more balance changes made to the full version.

But it is still interesting to see who may get out to an early lead in terms of usage and overall strength.

So it seems we’ll have to keep an eye on Terry and Rock though perhaps Jenet may be a bit of a sleeper hit too.

We’ll get a much better picture of how that all starts to shake out in a matter of weeks.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is slated to release on April 23, 2025 for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

  • Khaos Reigns April update patch notes

The T-1000 and Madam Bo became available in Mortal Kombat 1 just a couple of weeks ago. However, it would seem that another patch is needed to adjust a few things since that major update.

As such, NetherRealm Studios has released patch notes for the April 2025 update. There are plenty of things being fixed with this patch, but there are also a number of relevant balance adjustments being applied.

The characters that are receiving changes are Baraka, General Shao, Havik, Kenshi, Kitana, Li Mei, Mileena, Reptile, Sindel, Quan Chi, and Ghostface.

There are also adjustments being made to the Kameo characters Kano, Tremor, and Ferra.

As for the T-1000 and Madam Bo, they also needed a few things fixed with this new patch. They’re not receiving any major balance tweaks at the moment, but they should function closer to what is intended of them in specific situations.

For now, it’s unknown how much longer NetherRealm Studios will be able to continue supporting Mortal Kombat 1 now that the final DLC character of the Kombat Pack 2, the T-1000, has been released. This is certainly a good sign that the game could be supported for at least a little bit longer.

  • Geese Howard is apparently hiring for Howard Connection today…

SNK has revealed that Howard Connection apparently has job openings starting today on April 1, 2025, a day in which it is entirely safe to believe everything you read on the internet.

“We are recruiting for Howard Connection, an organization owned by Geese Howard,” begun the tweet on X.

“The best way to predict the future is… to rule it all,” continued the posting. “Those who have interest and determination, please check the job posting.”

It’s not mentioned in the job posting, but those that tend to be afraid of heights should probably refrain from applying. It would seem that Geese Howard prefers to work atop of extremely tall buildings.

Bystanders have even claimed to have seen Geese Howard going skydiving from his skyscrapers in the past. Oddly, it’s been a good while since he was spotted after his last “skydiving adventure.”

Aside from that, it’s worth mentioning that Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is set to release this month on April 24, 2025.

Notably, M. Bison and Heihachi made grand returns in Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 respectively, so fans have been wondering if Geese Howard could be making a return in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves at some point. Although, he might return in a different state of being considering his last canonical appearance.

We’ll just have to see how things unfold from here to find out.

  • Tomorrow’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is set to last for approximately 60 minutes

It’s been a long and excruciating wait, but the scheduled time is nearly upon us. On April 2 (tomorrow), Nintendo will host their Switch 2 focused Direct at 6 a.m. PT and 9 a.m. ET.

Over on X, Nintendo revealed new details about what we should expect from the presentation. This is set to be an eventful livestream as the Direct has been scheduled to last for “approximately 60 minutes.”

Nintendo has basically gone radio silent about the Switch 2 since they first provided at sneak peek at it during the Switch 2 reveal trailer. By that point, it felt like just about everything about the console had already been leaked beforehand, but there was still plenty to be excited for nonetheless.

Amazingly, Nintendo has managed to keep the Switch 2 game library completely under wraps, although they did provide a quick look at the next Mario Kart entry for the hybrid device. Notably, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is known for being the best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch, which provides us with some ideas of what type of games Nintendo might feature during this upcoming presentation.

We also recently learned that Masahiro Sakurai has been working on a secret game project since April 2022. Chances are high that Sakurai’s game will actually be revealed during this Switch 2 Direct.

A plausible possibility is that Sakurai has been working on the next entry in the Super Smash Bros. series for the Switch 2. Nintendo would certainly have a vested interest in having Sakurai working on this project considering that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate ended up being the third best-selling game on the Switch with over 35.88 million sales achieved.

Additionally, many fans have been wondering why Capcom hasn’t revealed the Elena trailer for Street Fighter 6. Of course, Street Fighter is only available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and the PC.

Based on what we know of reported spec leaks, it seems like the Switch 2 will be powerful enough to run Street Fighter 6. As such, there are plenty of fans that have speculated that the Elena trailer could actually show up during the Switch 2 Direct tomorrow.

As always, we’ll be live tomorrow covering any news relevant to the fighting game community. Be sure to tune in with us then.

  • New Tekken 8 Season 2 Editions now available

The Season 2 update for Tekken 8 was released just yesterday. For those that purchased the Year 2 Character Pass, Anna Williams was made immediately available thanks to its early access perk.

Starting today, there will be new editions of Tekken 8 that get released in celebration of the start of Season 2. These new editions of the game will replace the previous Deluxe and Ultimate Editions of Tekken 8 while adding more content to the bundles.

The Tekken 8 Season 2 Ultimate Edition will give players access to the Season 1 Character & Stage Pass and the Season 2 Character & Stage Pass. For the second pass, players will automatically get early access to new content 72 hours ahead of everyone without the pass.

As expected, players will get a little less content with the Tekken 8 Season 2 Deluxe Edition as it will just come with the eight DLC characters (still with the 72 hours early access for Season 2 content). Those that go this route will have to purchase the DLC stages separately if they want them.

Finally, there’s the new Tekken 8 Advanced Edition. This will come with the base game along with Eddy, Lidia, and Heihachi from Season 1 at a special price. The sole guest character, Final Fantasy 16’s Clive Rosfield, is not part of this bundle.

The Tekken 8 Deluxe Edition is being priced at $99.99 while the Tekken 8 Ultimate Edition costs $109.99. The new Advanced Edition of Tekken 8 Season 2 is currently on sale (for 30% off) at $48.99. These bundles are essentially being priced at the same rates as before, but with additional content.

  • Rival Schools Gala Fighting Pass announced for Street Fighter 6

We knew there was a Street Fighter 6 update coming today, which led to the hope that we’d finally see Elena, but that turned out to not be the case.

Capcom just announced the Rival Schools Gala Fighting Pass for Street Fighter 6.

As the name suggests, the new pass is focused on Capcom’s overlooked Rival Schools series, which takes place in the same world as Street Fighter.

Players can get ahold of a school uniform with a giant pompadour as part of the premium rewards, but that’s not all.

Akira Kazama’s motorcycle helmet is also up for grabs to dress up your avatar, which may decrease her chances of showing up in SF6 after she was made playable in the final season of Street Fighter 5.

As we’ve seen in previous passes, the Rival Schools affair will also include new stickers, photo frames, emotes, titles, a challenger screen and more.

Three tracks from Rival Schools are also being added to the music selection in the game for those who unlock them.

The classic game of the month seems to be Warriors of Fate.

This new Fighting Pass will be available for around three weeks following tonight’s Street Fighter 6 server maintenance.

Rival Schools’ sequel Project Justice is heavily featured in the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection 2, so it’s a timely tie-in with the compilation coming in May.

It seems we’ll be waiting until May for the Elena Arrives Fighting Pass after all.

  • Tekken 8 Season 2 patch notes

Posted by Dakota DarkHorse Hills • 21 minutes ago • Comments: 0

It’s finally time for Season 2 to hit Tekken 8, which means a metric ton of changes are coming to the game very shortly.

Bandai Namco has just released the official Season 2 patch notes for Tekken 8 for players to see everything that’s new and adjusted for the second year of combat.

Before the big update is available in full force, Tekken is undergoing server maintenance starting at 2:30 p.m. PDT and is scheduled to last for at least a few hours.

Every character is said to receive brand new moves as well as balance adjustments.

There’s also going to be system-wide changes made too, but some of them like the chip damage on throw escapes are going to get reverted at a later time.

Anna Williams is going to be available as well as the Year 2 Season Pass once the patch is fully live.

We’ll be continuing to update the story here with the patch notes, which can also be found on the official Tekken website.

    Story is developing…

  • Today may finally be the day to see Elena in Street Fighter 6

Street Fighter 6 players have known the full contents of the game’s Year 2 Character Pass since June last year, and we’ve almost reached the finish line for it — but not quite yet.

Elena has yet to make an appearance as the last Season 2 character, but that could be changing today.

Capcom is putting SF6 under server maintenance later today, March 31, starting at 8 p.m. PDT for around four hours.

This presumably signifies the launch of a new Fighting Pass for SF6, but Capcom suspiciously hasn’t revealed what that is just yet.

That could very well point to it being the Elena Arrives pass that the developers put out for the launch of every new character for SF6 though we can’t say for sure just yet obviously.

If the fighting pass is indeed for Elena, we could be getting her teaser trailer tonight and / or a showcase for the fighting pass.

This would match up with our previous prediction from last week that Elena would be revealed very soon given the tight release window they have to work with.

Capcom will presumably release Elena and the Season 3 update before Evo Japan 2025 starting on May 9, and even if they wait until after, the Capcom Pro Tour calendar doesn’t clear up for them either.

Combo Breaker 2025 is also taking place towards the end of May on the CPT, so there’s only a few windows remaining that Capcom could release Elena in.

And we’ll hopefully be learning more about that very shortly now.

But if the Fighting Pass is for something else, it likely means we’ll be waiting until at least May for Elena.

  • Tekken 8 Season 2 maintenance schedule revealed

Anna Williams is scheduled to become available to purchase for everyone in Tekken 8 starting on April 2, 2025. However, those that purchase the Season 2 character pass will get early access to Anna starting today.

As such, the Season 2 patch to make Anna compatible for everyone is set to be downloadable later today. Over on X, the Tekken development team has revealed the server maintenance schedule for the big update.

Servers are set to go down later today at 23:30 CEST / 14:30 PDT / April 1st 06:30 JST. In other words, 2:30 p.m. PDT and 5:30 p.m. EDT.

Bandai Namco has also revealed that the patch notes for the Season 2 update will also be released around that time. This should tide players over while online features will be temporarily disabled.

This update will provide balance adjustments and introduce new items for the shop. Of course, this will all come at the cost of replays as they’ll become obsolete and unviewable due to the changes.

Although we’ve yet to get a compiled list of changes for the Season 2 patch, the Tekken 8 developers has already revealed some of the more impactful adjustments being made to the game. One of these adjustments will make it so that players will receive a small amount of chip damage upon successfully teching a throw attempt by the opponent.

Needless to say, this change caused a lot of controversy within the Tekken community. Shortly afterwards, the developers revealed that they plan to backtrack this change in a future update, but we should still expect the change among the rest of notes for the patch that’s dropping later today.

  • This might just be the greatest match throw in Super Smash Bros. history…

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate can be a very chaotic. Even with tournament format rules in place, it can sometimes be very difficult to predict exactly how a match will play out.

An interesting clip was recently showcased by TF|Demi, the Mr. Game & Watch user in the scene. By this point, he was already 0-2 against Spice’s Hero, and it looked like he was on track to lose the third match as well.

Right as the clip begins, we see that Mr. Game & Watch, the third lightest character in the game, was already at 119% damage. Meanwhile, Hero had only taken about 36% damage and had just activated his Psyche Up action from his Command Select. Both players were on their last stocks.

Though Demi was able to land a few more hits against Hero, Spice only needed to respond with a single attack of his own to knock out Mr. Game & Watch off the top. Indeed, all Spice had to do at this point was put down the controller and he would’ve won the game.

However, Spice instead saw this as an opportunity to perform a taunt that only Hero is capable of. As such, he activated his down special, pulling up the Command Select menu once again.

He was provided the options to use Snooze, Sizzle, Kamikazee, and Heal. Despite it being the third option, Spice opted to move his cursor to “Kamikazee” and activate it without any hesitation.

The idea was simple: Mr. Game & Watch would perish in the background just before Hero completed the longwinded Kamikazee animation. This would produce an epic freeze screen that centered on Hero just before he exploded.

Unfortunately for Spice, he was a bit too quick in selecting Kamikazee. Before Mr. Game & Watch lost his last stock of the game, Hero had blown himself up.

From the player cameras, it can be observed that both players were surprised by this. They both had an amusing reaction to the scenario

As mentioned before, it was actually the Mr. Game & Watch player that uploaded this clip. He labeled it on X as the “most skillful victory with Mr. Game & Watch.”
