  • JAMB candidate abducted on her way to examination centre released

    A 20-year-old student, Miss Chioma Rita Clement, who was reportedly kidnapped by unidentified persons on her way to sit for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB in Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos state, has been released.

    Rita was reportedly released on Wednesday night and has since been reunited with her family.

    The young girl had left home on Gboyega Kilo Street in the Ojodu Berger area of the state as early as 6.30am on the day of the examination (March 10) for her centre at Agidingbi Secondary School, International office on Plot B, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, but had not returned.

    Meanwhile, her guardian, Mrs. Orazulike Njideka had disclosed that Rita who had lived with her since she was 5 years old, had hurriedly sent a distress text message to her on the day she was declared missing.

    The message read:

    “I don’t know where I am now. Mummy please, save me.

    “Mummy, they took my phone and beat me up inside the bus. Mummy, I don’t know where they took me to. They made me sleep and said they will kill me if I ran.

    “Someone gave me my phone, saying I must return it before they came back. Mummy, please save me, please.”

    Family members and concerned Nigerians had posted her pictures as well as pleas for her release on the social media.

    But latest report has it that Rita has been released.

    According to the report, the victim’s sister simply identified as Maryann, confirmed her return, saying ‘Rita returned home on Wednesday around 11p.m.”

  • Reps Honour Exceptional Ayodele, A UNILAG Graduate With 5.0

    The House of Representatives on Wednesday honoured 29 year-old Ayodele Dada, who graduated with a cumulative grade point average of 5.0 from the University of Lagos.
    He received a standing ovation from the House during plenary in honour of his rare academic feat.
    In an unprecedented gesture, the House suspended its rules to invite Mr Dada into its hallowed chamber to honour him and commend his remarkable achievement, a tradition usually reserved for visiting presidents and parliamentarians.
    Some of the lawmakers said young Dada’s success story, in the face of the challenges in the education sector, is compelling and an inspiration to the Nigerian youth and the country in general. [Channelstv]

    It was really a celebrity convocation, because this is for the first time big names were awards degrees in the prestigious uni. Many guests with high profiles were also noted at the occasion including Prof. Yakubu Aboki Ochefu-VC Kwararafa University Taraba State, H.E Prof. Ivara Ejemot Esu-Deputy governor of Cross River State, Prof Akaniren Essien- Rep of President Buhari, Chief E. Iwuanyanwu-Pro Chancellor Unical. Recipient of an honorary Doctor of Political Science from the University of Calabar – Princess Florence Ita Giwa was also a big name we found on the list. 
    The wife of the Hon. Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Dr.Mrs Uduak Onofiok Luke was also on bended knees to say thank you to her husband for all his support during her academic pursuits.
    Recipient of an honorary Doctorate from the University of Calabar – H.E Dr Donald Duke & his dear wife H.E Onari Duke were also the attendees at the event. While wife of Sen. Gershom Bassey, Dr Chioma Gershom Bassey celebrates her conferment of Masters in Business Administration (MBA).

  • NYSC 2016 Batch A Orientation has been shifted to April and no more March

    The 2016 NYSC Batch A Orientation course has been shifted to April and no more March due to the POP of 2015 Batch A holding same month. Since the incoming Batch A cannot meet the current Batch A, the orientation course has been shifted to make way for the outgoing Batch.

    The timetable for stream 1 will commence from April 1st to 20th while stream 2 will be from April 27th to May 16th, 2016.

  • Former Senate President, David Mark honoured with doctorate degree in Delta

    The immediate past President of the Senate, Dr. David Mark was today honoured with Doctor of Science Degree in Intelligence and Security Studies (Honoris Causal) of the Novena University, Delta State.

    The prestigious university also named her newly created faculty, Centre for Intelligence and National Security after the Idoma-born political icon.

    Presenting the certificate to the awardee at the University campus, Ogume, Delta State during the 10th convocation ceremony of the institution, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chris A. Okafor acknowledged the role Senator Mark played as the President of 6th and 7th Senate in bringing peace, security and unity to the National polity, which he described as unprecedented in the history of Nigeria.

    He particularly extolled the intelligence with which Senator Mark piloted the affairs the National Assembly and said the David Mark Centre for Intelligence and National Security would work closely with the Distinguished Senator and some international partners from the Republic of China to fully train the undergraduates in personal and national security.

    In his response, Senator Mark said he was overwhelmed by the honour done to him by the management of the university and pledged his support to the attainment of the dreams of the newly created faculty.

    Also honoured with the award of Doctorate Degree include, wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunsho Amosun, Managing Director of Rain Oil Limited, Engr. Gabriel Ogbechie and Special Adviser to President Buhari on Niger Delta Affairs, Brig. Gen. Paul Tarela Boroh (Rtd).

    The event was graciously attended by Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa and his cabinet memebers. Others include former Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro; House of Reps Committee Chairman on Airforce, Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu; Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji; among others.
