  • NANS 2016: Gunmen attacks presidential team of Igwe led by Usman Shehu in EBSU (Photos)

    What looked like a peaceful campaign later turned out to be a bloody menace as the presidential campaign team of Igwe Ude-Manta led by President Tijani Usman Shehu, was attacked on Friday 8th July in the Administrative block of Ebonyi State University (EBSU).

    Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki was founded in 1999 in Abakaliki, Nigeria, to encourage the advancement of learning and research, and in the long run, rewrite the hitherto inglorious history of educational backwardness of Ebonyi people.

    As we reliably gathered from our sources on ground, the incumbent president went to see the Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Engr.) Professor Idike Francis to introduce his candidate, Comr. Igwe Ude-Manta. Unfortunately, Comr. Chinonso Obasi (IBB) got the news and mobilized some mob, who besieged the administrative block.

    The pro-IBB students believed to be cultists clashed with Tijani-led team, following their refusal to provide answers to their questions as thus;

    I. Who asked you to visit Ebonyi state?
    II. Did you take permission from me?
    III. Is the Governor aware of your visit? etc.

    “Presidential hopeful Igwe, a student of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki , Ebonyi State, was stabbed at the back leaving him with blood stains on d white clothes on him. And the case was immediately reported to the security,” said an EBSU student.

    The injured Igwe Ude-Manta, Prince of Ebonyi State whom our own Kabiru Ibrahim Dallah once described as an embodiment of intellectual and oratory prowess, is a former president, Student Union Government of the University of Abuja who was victimised due to his stands against the management on the increment of school fees five years ago.

    n-Mirror also gathered that this isn’t the first time IBB (EBSU ticket) is involved in act inimical to the ideals of student unionism. For instance, during Zone B convention held in Awka, Anambra state, he attempted to kidnap a fellow student, Jennifer Onyekachi, but failed. Comr. Jennifer is the current Assistant Secretary General of the zone.

    Reacting to the incident, a faculty president in EBSU speaking with our correspondent advised fellow students supporting either of the two presidential candidate to have a rethink. According to him, the era where touts are groomed to be NANS leaders is gone, “we must at all cost show maturity and some sense of responsibility in our conduct,” he added.

    This year national convention will hold in Gombe State University, Gombe, Gombe State, between 14th-17th July.

    According to a united Nation report 795 million people are estimated to be chronically undernourished as of 2014, Over 90 million children under the age of five are dangerously underweight. And one person in every four still goes hungry in Africa
    Together with the other goals set out here, we can end hunger by 2030. Against this setback, the SDG CDS group in Karu Local government area of Nassarawa state is not independent in the quest to reduce malnutrition and hunger. The group is keying into the larger vision of the Sustainable Development goals.
