Sky Sports report that Borussia Monchengladbach are interested in Eddie Nketiah, hoping to sign him to a pre-contract agreement. It reportedly seems to be a case of when Nketiah will leave the club, rather than if he will.

Nketiah’s Arsenal deal expires in the summer, meaning Gladbach are free to talk to him and come to an agreement for a free transfer without any need to go through Arsenal first.

But that appears to be only half the story. As well as Gladbach, there are now strong links between Nketiah and Newcastle United.

The Telegraph report that Newcastle are closing in on a deal for Nketiah, having been quietly working on a deal for a while now.

Talks with Arsenal are progressing well, and Newcastle hope Nketiah will travel north to complete his move this weekend.

Crystal Palace no longer appear to be a likely destination for Nketiah, having previously had a bid rejected by Arsenal. They’re now pushing to make Jean Philippe-Mateta’s loan move permanent.

Nketiah has scored five goals in 10 Arsenal appearances this season, all of which came in the League Cup.

The 22-year-old has only played a total of 51 minutes in the Premier League, so it’s not particularly surprising that hasn’t led to any goals. You can also see why he’s not jumping at the chance to commit his future to Arsenal.

If Nketiah is going to move on this window, Aston Villa could also be a potential destination. Villa have been linked in recent weeks and clearly like signing homegrown players from Arsenal – with Emi Martinez and Calum Chambers already on their books.
