Newcastle United earned a stunning 1-0 win over Arsenal at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon to dent the visitors’ title aspirations.
Mikel Arteta started with the trio of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard to provide firepower for the team, but they struggled to make things happen.
Newcastle United took the lead through Alexander Isak, who powered in a well-placed header in the 12th minute to stun the visitors.
The Gunners struggled for creativity and cutting edge in the final third as Newcastle held on to seal a vital victory which moved them to eighth on the log.
Arsenal have now failed to win their last three games in the Premier League as their title aspirations suffer a huge dent.
Newcastle United’s hero, Alexander Isak hailed his teammates for the massive performance against Arsenal
He said, “That was massive, against a big team. It means a lot to the fans that we can win this game.
“It’s special of course, our fans are amazing every game, win or lose. So it gives you an extra boost. I have been successful here so hopefully I can keep going.
“The cross was amazing, I just had to jump and put my head on the ball, so credit to him.
“Arsenal have a strong defence and so it is a difficult task but I’m happy we could score today and keep a clean sheet.”
“We’ve had a bad spell but hopefully this win can be a bit of an icebreaker for us.”
The victory ended Newcastle United’s five-match winless run in the Premier League as they built on their 2-0 win over Chelsea in the midweek in the League Cup.
