The big Tekken World Tour finals are taking place this weekend and the world’s top competitors are preparing to slug it out in Amsterdam for the title of champ and a nice prize payout. While fans can guarantee they’ll be seeing some good ass Tekken, it looks as though they might also be able to count on a new Tekken-related announcement slated for the event.

In anticipation of the finals, Tekken 7’s (and Tekken 8’s) director Katsuhiro Harada and producer Michael Murray took to Twitter today to tell fans that they should keep an eye on the event this Sunday. According to the developers, they have a surprise for us on finals day.

“We have a little surprise for you. Sunday 5 February, 19:00 CET,” the official Tekken Twitter page tweeted along with a photo of Harada and Murray at last year’s final. “Get ready. #TWT2022”

When it comes to large Tekken reveals being made at in-person events, it is typically Harada and Murray who take the stage to make them. Naturally, this announcement of an announcement is heavily suggesting that a new Tekken 8 reveal will be made at the Tekken World Tour finals.

So far, a handful of Tekken 8 reveals have been made. It all started out with a very short teaser at Evo 2022 back in August that didn’t outright say it was the latest game in the series, but fans quickly and correctly assumed it was.

Then in September, Bandai Namco unveiled the official reveal trailer for Tekken 8. In it, fans saw Kazuya and Jin battling it out in what was a mix of cinematic story scenes and real gameplay (though all of it was rendered in-engine).

Following its real reveal, Tekken 8 made an appearance at The Game Awards in December. The trailer that debuted there revealed Paul, King, Law, Lars, Jack-8 and Jun Kazama as playable characters in the game, and we even got to see some more quick gameplay featuring these new fighters.

We don’t know too much else about Tekken 8 at the moment, though Bandai Namco did mention in their latest financial report that their goal is to release the game in 2023. Being that this information was included in their financial report, however, fans aren’t quite sure if they meant the calendar year of 2023 or the company’s financial year 2023 — which technically ends in March 2024.

Doing a quick time zone conversion, the announcement should be going live at around 7 p.m. CET / 10 a.m. PST / 1 p.m. EST. Stay tuned here at EventHubs as we will have all of the latest Tekken 8 updates as they happen.
