At the end of Street Fighter 5’s main story, A Shadow Falls, Ryu delivered a powerful blow against M. Bison. Ultimately, M. Bison’s body was destroyed, but he did remain in the world as Phantom Bison, his incorporeal form preserved through Psycho Power.
It would seem that M. Bison’s death could be permanent considering his absence from Street Fighter 6, which takes place after the events of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. However, M. Bison has always had a tendency to resurrect in Street Fighter lore.
The Season 2 update added a new quest in World Tour that seems to imply a potential return in some form for M. Bison. This quest has the player follow the instructions of “Foo,” who is implied to be yet another alias for F.A.N.G, M. Bison’s second-in-command during the events of Street Fighter 5 (or at least he was the self-proclaimed second-in-command).
It turns out that this quest is a continuation of a quest added to the Ed patch. Notably, Ed is a character with connections to Neo Shadaloo and M. Bison.
Foo ends up giving the player a task of picking random fights for the purpose of luring out a certain individual that’s measuring the power outputs of fighters. This person apparently has some connection to Neo Shadaloo.
Eventually, the avatar finds themselves at the Shadaloo base where some interesting documents can be found. This document lists out persons of interest, specifically those with the potential to use Psycho Power, for the sake of potentially resurrecting M. Bison.
Potential candidates have been located in Mexico, Egypt, Nayshall, and the Philippines. There’s reasons to suspect that Menat may be the candidate from Egypt while Falke is the one currently in Nayshall.
It’s also worth mentioning that there currently isn’t a playable character in the Street Fighter series who hails from the Philippines. All of this has led some fans to think that this document could somehow be hinting at some character for Season 2.
Of course, it’s also worth mentioning that M. Bison’s return was also hinted at by Capcom with the update that added Ed to Street Fighter 6. There’s also supposedly a “leak” that names M. Bison as one of the characters coming to Season 2.
Notably, Street Fighter 6 Director Takayuki Nakayama teased that they have some unexpected characters planned for Season 2. Could M. Bison be one of those unexpected characters considering how he was effectively killed off at the end of Street Fighter 5?
