New Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection trailer released showcasing the first game to give the series its full title

After years of being dormant on home consoles, Marvel vs. Capcom is back with the classics that fans are highly aniticpating to relive the past glory and look ahead to what may come in the future.

A new trailer for the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics just dropped focused on the first game to give the franchise its full name as well as some interesting gameplay changes.

“In Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes, a Special Partner will join your team of 2 to assist in combat,” reads the official description of the trailer.

“The new Variable Cross system allows you to attack simultaneously with a tag-team partner, and use unlimited Hyper Combos.”

Interestingly, the trailer refers to this as the “third fighting game effort” between Marvel and Capcom, which isn’t exactly true unless they’re specifically talking about Versus titles.

We already did get trailers for the first two games in X-Men: Children of the Atom and Marvel Super Heroes, but they’re seemingly skipping over two of the following titles that came after.

X-Men vs. Street Fighter first released in 1996 while Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter came out in 1997, and then we got the first Marvel vs. Capcom in 1998.

The first two actual Versus games are part of the MvC Collection, so we’re not sure why they went straight to Clash of Super Heroes now.

This game did open the doors for the Capcom side to include characters outside of Street Fighter for the first time like Morrigan, Strider Hiryu, Captain Commando, Mega Man and Jin Saotome.

The roster was technically expanded further by adding unique assist characters on top of the 2v2 gameplay from the previous Versus entries where unplayable heroes and villains could still appear including Thor, Magneto, Anita, Arthur and others to total 20 special partners.

We also recently heard from the original Marvel fighting games planner about why the first titles lacked alternate color options, which was sorted out by the time they reached MvC proper.

There’s still no official release date for the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, but it may have leaked last week.
