New Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection trailer released focused on the game that started it all

It’s the mid-’90s. You go outside after watching your Saturday morning cartoon and your friend across the street tells you this wild story about how the guys who made Street Fighter 2 are releasing an X-Men fighting game, and it turns out to be true.

The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics just received a new trailer focused on the game that kicked off the now iconic franchise.

X-Men Children of the Atom may not be a crossover title like the rest, but it set the stage for everything that was to follow over the next almost 30 years.

MvC staples like Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Sentinel and others all got their start here under the vision that Capcom had for the comic book characters that are still some of their coolest iterations to date.

Everything from the arcade release of Children of the Atom is here plus more since players can even unlock Juggernaut and Magneto as playable fighters via new menu options.

On top of that, the trailer also shows off the new training mode in action too that includes a hitbox viewer and attack info, which all games in the collection will have alongside more features like online multiplayer and galleries.

Technically speaking, X-Men isn’t the first collaboration Capcom and Marvel had together since Children of the Atom came out at the end of 1994 in Japan while The Punisher actually released in 1993 — but this is the first fighting game that would serve as the basis for the future past.

Along with X-Men and the Punisher, the new collection also includes Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

The companies joining forces once again has fans hopeful for a new Marvel vs. Capcom someday including the current Street Fighter developers too.

But even if that does come to fruition, a brand new title would still be multiple years away.

We still don’t have a release date for the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection besides the 2024 window where the game will launch on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC though is skipping the Xbox.
